With an increasing need for the rapid and effective safety assessment of compounds in industrial and civil-use products, in silico toxicity exploration techniques provide an economic way for environmental hazard assessment. The previous in silico researches have developed many quantitative structure-activity relationships models to predict toxicity mechanisms for last decade. Most of these methods benefit from data analysis and machine learning techniques, which rely heavily on the characteristics of data sets.

In the title compound, [CdCl(NCS)(C(9)H(8)N(2))](n), the Cd(II) atom is in a distorted octa-hedral coordination environment defined by two chloride anions, two N atoms from an 8-amino-quinoline ligand, one N atom from one thio-cyanate anion and one S atom from a symmetry-related thio-cyanate anion. Two Cd(II) atoms are bridged by two chloride anions, forming an inversion-related Cd(2)Cl(2) unit; these units are further linked through thio-cyanate anions, leading to a chain structure extending parallel to [010]. Weak π-π stacking inter-actions with centroid-centroid distances of 3.

Chitin-methacrylate (CM) was prepared by the reaction of methacrylic acid on chitin in 5% LiCl/DMAc in the presence of N,N'-dicyclocarbodiimide and dimethylaminopyridine. The resultant chitin-methacrylate product was isolated in 61% yield and was found to be readily water-soluble. The derivative was found to be a mixture of methacrylate and methacrylic-dimethylaminopyridine complex substituents at the C-6 position in approximately equal amounts.

Stroke is the second cause of death worldwide with ischemic stroke accounting for 80% of all stroke insults. Caspase-3 activation contributes to brain tissue loss and downstream biochemical events that lead to programmed cell death after traumatic brain injury. Alleviation of symptoms following ischemic neuronal injury can be potentially achieved by either genetic disruption or pharmacological inhibition of caspases.

Tumor vasculatures express high levels of α(V)β(3)/α(V)β(5) and α(5)β(1) integrins. Peptide containing the RGD (Arg-Gly-Asp) sequence, which is present in ligands of integrins, is effective in targeting therapeutic reagents to tumor vascular endothelium. In this study, we investigated whether the biological activity of endostatin 27 peptides can be enhanced by the addition of an integrin targeting sequence.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) consist of carbon atoms arranged in sheets of graphene rolled up into cylindrical shapes. This class of nanomaterials has attracted attention because of their extraordinary properties, such as high electrical and thermal conductivity. In addition, development in CNT functionalization chemistry has led to an enhanced dispersibility in aqueous physiological media which indeed broadens the spectrum for their potential biological applications including gene delivery.

Methotrexate was tethered to multi-walled carbon nanotubes through different cleavable linkers exploiting the ammonium functionalities introduced by 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction of azomethine ylides to the nanotubes. The new nanobio-hybrid conjugates were internalized into human breast cancer cells and it was shown that the cytotoxic activity was strongly dependent on the presence and type of linker.

The interaction between norfloxacin and bovine serum albumin, and the influence of Zinc (II) on the system of norfloxacin and bovine serum albumin was studied under physiological condition by fluorescence method. It was shown that norfloxacin has a powerful ability to quench the BSA fluorescence via a nonradiative energy transfer mechanism. The fluorescence quenching data were analyzed according to Stern-Volmer equation and double-reciprocal equation, and the binding constant (K) and the binding sites (n) were obtained.

Recent studies indicate that secondary bile acids promote colon cancer cell proliferation but their role in maintaining cell survival has not been explored. We found that deoxycholyltaurine (DCT) markedly attenuated both unstimulated and TNF-alpha-stimulated programmed cell death in colon cancer cells by a phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)-dependent mechanism. To examine the role of bile acids and PI3K signaling in maintaining colon cancer cell survival, we explored the role of signaling downstream of bile acid-induced activation of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) in regulating both apoptosis and proliferation of HT-29 and H508 human colon cancer cells.

Surfactant protein D (SP-D)-deficient (SP-D-/-) mice exhibit early development of emphysema. Previously we have shown that SP-D deficiency results in increased production and activity of inducible NO synthase (iNOS). In this study, we examined whether treatment with the iNOS inhibitor 1400W could inhibit the inflammatory phenotype.

The cytolytic ionotropic ATP receptor P2X7 has several important roles in immune cell regulation, such as cytokine release, apoptosis, and microbial killing. Although P2X7 receptors are frequently coexpressed with another subtype of P2X receptor, P2X4, they are believed not to form heteromeric assemblies but to function only as homomers. Both receptors play a role in neuropathic pain; therefore, understanding how they coordinate the cellular response to ATP is important for the development of effective pain therapies.
