Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to evaluate how patients with mental health issues use and perceive patient accessible electronic health records (PAEHRs) compared to other patient groups, addressing concerns from clinicians about potential negative impacts of patients reading their notes.
  • Out of 2,587 survey respondents, 504 identified as having mental health conditions, and their responses regarding the use of PAEHRs were statistically compared to those of other patients to identify any significant differences.
  • The findings indicated that patients with mental health issues utilize PAEHRs more actively for confirming care accuracy, identifying potential errors, restricting access for other professionals, and monitoring who has viewed their records, suggesting distinct engagement patterns compared to other patients.
