Potential effects of liver dysfunction at the time of diagnosis in patients with acute myeloid leukemia.

Whilst severe liver dysfunction is rarely encountered at the time of diagnosis for patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), mild elevations aminotransferase (<5 times the upper limit of normal) may be more frequently seen. Liver dysfunction at the time of diagnosis of AML is a parameter that requires investigation and can assist the clinicians in predicting prognosis. The aim of the present study was to investigate liver dysfunction at the time of diagnosis using the assoicated parameters in patients with AML.

Evaluation of risk factors for postpartum cerebral venous sinus thrombosis, a multicenter retrospective observational study.

The postpartum period is a well-defined risk factor for cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST). However, it is unclear which patients are at risk for CVST in the postpartum period. Thus, determining some CVST risk factors in postpartum patients may be useful for preventing the disorder in this population.

Shiga Toxin-Producing E. coli and Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome: A Study of the 2022 Outbreak in Turkey.

BACKGROUND Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) causes serious bacterial illnesses from consuming undercooked meat and foods contaminated with feces. This study aimed to describe the characteristics of an STEC outbreak associated with hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) that emerged in Turkey and affected 21 adults. MATERIAL AND METHODS The medical records of 21 adult patients who were admitted to Ankara Bilkent City Hospital Internal Medicine Intensive Care Department with the diagnosis of HUS between July and September 2022 were retrospectively evaluated through the system.

Retrospective analysis of hemophilia B in Turkey: identifying main characteristics and treatment options.

Background: Hemophilia B (HB), an X-linked recessive inherited bleeding disorder, exhibits a high prevalence among males.

Objectives: To present the first national cohort of persons with HB to define the demographics, clinical characteristics, and treatment patterns in Turkey.

Methods: This multicenter, retrospective study included 433 alive persons with HB registered in 35 centers between 1961 and 2018.

Methods: Twenty-seven female Wistar albino rats, aged 3-6 months and weighing 200-300 g, were used in this study. After the induction of general anesthesia, 2 mol/L sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution was used to create corneal alkali burns in all experimental animals.

Survival Outcomes of Patients with Primary Plasma Cell Leukemia in the Era of Proteasome Inhibitors and Immunomodulatory Agents: A Real-Life Multicenter Analysis.

Objective: In this study, we aimed to obtain real-life data on the use of antimyeloma agents, which significantly increase overall survival (OS) in multiple myeloma (MM) patients, in primary plasma cell leukemia (pPCL) patients with poor prognosis.

Materials And Methods: Data from 53 patients who were diagnosed with pPCL between 2011 and 2020 and who used at least one proteasome inhibitor (PI) and/or immunomodulatory (IMID) agent were analyzed retrospectively. Depending on the year of the pPCL diagnosis, 20% leukocytes or ≥2x10/L plasma cells in the peripheral blood was used as a diagnostic criterion.

Background: Dapagliflozin (DPG) is a sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor and is used in the treatment of diabetes. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of DPG on cardiotoxicity caused by systemic inflammation via endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and autophagy.

Methods And Results: Four groups of thirty-two Wistar Albino rats were created: Control (1 ml oral physiological saline for five days and intraperitoneal saline on the 5th day), LPS (1 ml oral physiological saline for five days and intraperitoneal 5 mg/kg of LPS on the 5th day), LPS + DPG (10 mg/kg of DPG orally for five days and 5 mg/kg of LPS intraperitoneally on the 5th day), and DPG (10 mg/kg of DPG orally for five days and 5 mg/kg of SF intraperitoneally on the 5th day).

Successful Surgical Management of Severe Left Ventricular Outflow Tract Obstruction Caused by Cardiac Rhabdomyoma in a Neonate.

The effect of novel biotechnological vermicompost on tea yield, plant nutrient content, antioxidants, amino acids, and organic acids as an alternative to chemical fertilizers for sustainability.

In this study, the performance of a novel organic tea compost developed for the first time in the world from raw tea waste from tea processing factories and enriched with worms, beneficial microorganisms, and enzymes was tested in comparison to chemical fertilizers in tea plantations in Rize and Artvin provinces, where the most intensive tea cultivation is carried out in Turkey. In the field trials, the developed organic tea vermicompost was incorporated into the root zones of the plants in the tea plantations in amounts of 1000 (OVT1), 2000 (OVT2) and 4000 (OVT4) (kg ha). The experimental design included a control group without OVT applications and positive controls with chemical fertilizers (N: P: K 25:5:10, (CF) 1200 kg ha) commonly used by local growers.

This study employs a comprehensive approach using multiple deep learning models, including a three-dimensional (3D) Convolutional Neural Network, a Residual Network, and an Inception Network to enhance the accuracy and robustness of prostate cancer detection.

Anorectal Pathologies in the Course of Acute Leukaemias; Predictive Parameters.

Introduction: Patients with leukaemia are exposed to infections as long as they are neutropenic. During this period, anorectal pathologies are among the common foci of infection with high mortality. In this study, we aim to investigate the factors that may have a predictive effect on early diagnosis and rapid intervention in perianal complications occurring in neutropenic patients diagnosed with leukaemia.

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1-alpha (PGC-1α) is an inducible transcriptional coactivator protein involved in mitochondrial biogenesis and metabolism. PGC-1α exhibits a short half-life and low abundance, rendering its detection challenging by immunoblotting. This study compared the specificity and sensitivity of seven commercially available PGC-1α antibodies towards the full-length mouse PGC-1α1 isoform, using overexpression and knockdown in primary mouse hepatocytes.

Incidental Diagnosis of Cyclic Thrombocytopenia: An Asymptomatic Case.

Cyclic thrombocytopenia (CTP) is a very rare condition that is characterized by episodic thrombocytopenia over a period of three to five weeks. The pathogenesis of CTP is unclear and most likely heterogeneous; however, usually there is no clue about the underlying disease. In this case report, we presented a 48-year-old female who had a low platelet count of 66 x 10/µL (range: 150-450 x 10/µL) on her routine examination with no evidence of bleeding.

Prognostic Role of Neutrophil to Lymphocyte Ratio at Diagnosis in Patients with Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma.

Aim: Cancer-related systemic inflammation causes the increase of proinflammatory markers and acute phase proteins. Activation of systemic inflammatory response has been linked to poorer prognosis in colorectal cancer. This study aims to evaluate the prognostic value of preoperative systemic inflammatory markers and inflammation/nutrition scoring systems in predicting the postoperative early period (first 30 days) complications and mortality outcomes of patients who underwent curative surgery for colorectal cancer in our clinic.

Purpose: To evaluate the existing evidence regarding the comparison between 2 and 3D systems in Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy (TLH) in terms of surgical outcomes.

Evaluation of Endocervical Curettage in Colposcopy in the Turkish Cervical Cancer Screening Program.

Between February 2018 and 2019, data on colposcopy results from 11,944 patients were gathered from the Cancer Department of the Turkish Ministry of Health across the country. Effect of three different exercise trainings on functional capacity in early stage severe burn patients: A randomized controlled trial.

Background: This study investigated the effects of three different exercise protocols on functional capacity in early-stage burn patients.

Methods: A total of 25 patients hospitalized in the Burn Center (wards and intensive care unit) were included in the study. The individuals were divided into three groups by covariate adaptive randomization according to burn percentage and type: 1 - standard treatment, 2 - standard treatment + aerobic exercise training, 3 - standard treatment + combined exercise (aerobic and resistance) determined by metabolic status.
