Background: Cluster of differentiation 44 (CD44) is a cell surface adhesion protein involved in the progression and metastasis of oral squamous cell carcinoma. The current study aims to evaluate the expression of CD44 in oral lichen planus and related lesions and thereby assess the relative risk of malignant transformation of these lesions.

Materials And Methods: Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue blocks of 10 oral lichen planus (Group 1), 10 oral lichenoid lesions (Group 2), 8 with oral lichen planus with dysplasia (Group 3), and 5 with lichenoid dysplasia (Group 4) were included in the study.

Finite/fixed-time synchronization of inertial memristive neural networks by interval matrix method for secure communication.

This paper investigates the finite/fixed-time synchronization problem of delayed inertial memristive neural networks (DIMNNs) using interval matrix-based methods within a unified control framework. By employing set-valued mapping and differential inclusion theory, two distinct methods are applied to handle the switching behavior of memristor parameters: the maximum absolute value method and the interval matrix method. Based on these different approaches, two control strategies are proposed to select appropriate control parameters, enabling the system to achieve finite and fixed-time synchronization, respectively.

Finite-time stability analysis is a powerful tool for understanding the long-term behavior of epidemiological models and has been widely used to study the spread of infectious diseases such as COVID-19. In this paper, we present a finite-time stability analysis of a stochastic susceptible-infected-recovered (SIR) epidemic compartmental model with switching signals. The model includes a linear parameter variation (LPV) and switching system that represents the impact of external factors, such as changes in public health policies or seasonal variations, on the transmission rate of the disease.

Representing a Heterogeneous Pharmaceutical Knowledge-Graph with Textual Information.

We deal with a heterogeneous pharmaceutical knowledge-graph containing textual information built from several databases. The knowledge graph is a heterogeneous graph that includes a wide variety of concepts and attributes, some of which are provided in the form of textual pieces of information which have not been targeted in the conventional graph completion tasks. To investigate the utility of textual information for knowledge graph completion, we generate embeddings from textual descriptions given to heterogeneous items, such as drugs and proteins, while learning knowledge graph embeddings.

New Global Asymptotic Robust Stability of Dynamical Delayed Neural Networks via Intervalized Interconnection Matrices.

This article identifies a new upper bound norm for the intervalized interconnection matrices pertaining to delayed dynamical neural networks under the parameter uncertainties. By formulating the appropriate Lyapunov functional and slope-bounded activation functions, the derived new upper bound norms provide new sufficient conditions corresponding to the equilibrium point of the globally asymptotic robust stability with respect to the delayed neural networks. The new upper bound norm also yields the optimized minimum results as compared with some existing methods.

Stuttering is a childhood-onset fluency disorder, intertwined with physiological, emotional, and anxiety factors. The present study was designed to evaluate the recurrence of the reported mutations among three previously implicated (, , ) candidate genes, in persons with stuttering from south India. Mutation screening was performed among 64 probands on 12 specific exons, by Sanger sequencing.

Reduction in Ophthalmic Presentations to Australian Emergency Departments During the COVID-19 Period: Are We Seeing the Full Picture?

Purpose: To examine changing patterns of ophthalmic presentations to emergency departments (EDs) during the lockdowns associated with the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia and the two months immediately following lockdown relaxation.

Patients And Methods: This was a retrospective audit of triage coding and ICD-10-AM coding for all patient presentations to four Australian EDs from March 29 to May 31 in 2019 and 2020 (the COVID-19 lockdown period and the corresponding period in 2019), and from June 1 to July 31 in 2019 and 2020 (the post-lockdown period and the corresponding period in 2019). Number of ophthalmic presentations triaged per day and number of seven common and/or time-sensitive, vision threatening ophthalmic diagnoses were examined.

Context: Vulnerable population groups such as migrant workers are identified as emerging high-risk groups for oral cancer owing to the high prevalence of smokeless tobacco consumption. Premature deaths due to oral cancer can be prevented by screening the population with high tobacco consumption practices and detecting early reversible stages of oral mucosal cavity lesions and facilitating linkages for further care.

Clinical Profile and Treatment Response of Patients with Ocular Inflammation due to Presumed Ocular Tuberculosis: A Retrospective Study.

Objectives: Ocular tuberculosis is an extrapulmonary tuberculous infection and has varying manifestations which pose a huge challenge to diagnosis and treatment. The purpose of this study is to describe the various clinical manifestations of ocular inflammations due to tuberculosis and to assess the response to treatment following antituberculous therapy (ATT) and corticosteroids in these patients.

Materials And Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of 29 patients with presumed ocular tuberculosis who were started on ATT and completed follow-up of at least 6 months after ATT was initiated.

Sampled-Data Stabilization for Fuzzy Genetic Regulatory Networks with Leakage Delays.

This paper deals with the sampled-data stabilization problem for Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy genetic regulatory networks with leakage delays. A novel Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional (LKF) is established by the non-uniform division of the delay intervals with triplex and quadruplex integral terms. Using such LKFs for constant and time-varying delay cases, new stability conditions are obtained in the T-S fuzzy framework.

Oral pemphigus vulgaris: A case report with direct immunofluorescence study.

Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is a chronic, autoimmune, intraepidermal blistering disease of the skin and mucous membranes. The initial clinical manifestation is frequently the development of intraoral lesions, and later, the lesions involve the other mucous membranes and skin. The etiology of this disease still remains obscure although the presence of autoantibodies is consistent with an autoimmune disease.

Objectives: Newsreaders are elite vocal professionals who are highly dependent on their voice quality to meet professional commitments. Globally, the voice needs and demands of newsreaders could vary depending on technology and cultural variations. This study documents voice demands, voice needs, and vocal and nonvocal habits of professional newsreaders in Chennai, southern India through a questionnaire-based interview.

Odor memories regulate olfactory receptor expression in the sensory periphery.

Odor learning induces structural and functional modifications throughout the olfactory system, but it is currently unknown whether this plasticity extends to the olfactory receptors (Or) in the sensory periphery. Here, we demonstrate that odor learning induces plasticity in olfactory receptor expression in the honeybee, Apis mellifera. Using quantitative RT-PCR analysis, we show that six putative floral scent receptors were differentially expressed in the bee antennae depending on the scent environment that the bees experienced.

The major plant-derived cannabinoid Δ(9)-tetrahydrocannabinol promotes hypertrophy and macrophage infiltration in adipose tissue.

Synthetic cannabinoid receptor agonists activate lipoprotein lipase and the formation of lipid droplets in cultured adipocytes. Here we extend this work by examining whether Δ(9)-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a major plant-derived cannabinoid, increases adipocyte size in vivo. Further, possibly as a consequence of hypertrophy, we hypothesize that THC exposure promotes macrophage infiltration into adipose tissue, an inflammatory state observed in obese individuals.
