Two-dimensional (2D) siloxene is attracting considerable research interest recently principally owing to its inherent compatibility with silicon-based semiconductor technology. -The synthesis of siloxene has been mostly limited to multilayered structures using traditional topochemical reaction procedures. Herein, we report high-yield synthesis of single to few-layer siloxene nanosheets by developing a two-step interlayer expansion and subsequent liquid phase exfoliation procedure.

Here, we investigate the nonlinear relationship between the content of solid electrolytes in composite electrodes and the irreversible capacity via the degree of nanoscale uniformity of the surface morphology and chemical composition of the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) layer. Using electrochemical strain microscopy (ESM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), changes of the chemical composition and morphology (Li and F distribution) in SEI layers on the electrodes as a function of solid electrolyte contents are analyzed. As a result, we find that the solid electrolyte content affects the variation of the SEI layer thickness and chemical distributions of Li and F ions in the SEI layer, which, in turn, influence the Coulombic efficiency.

In this study, a finite element model updating method which can consider soil-structure interaction was developed to analyze the effect of soil properties on the structural response while considering interaction between the soil and the structure. Additionally, LS-DYNA, a commercial finite element program, was included in the loop of the proposed technique using MATLAB to conveniently utilize the complex structures updated by the model. To validate the performance of the proposed method, a large-scale shake table test was conducted.

Soybean (SB) leaves (SLs) contain diverse flavonoids with health-promoting properties. To investigate the chemical constituents of SB and their correlations across phenotypes, growing periods, and environmental factors, a validated separation method for mass detection was used with targeted metabolomics. Thirty-six polyphenols (1 coumestrol, 5 flavones, 18 flavonols, and 12 isoflavones) were identified in SLs, 31 of which were quantified.

Cross-flow membrane ultrafiltration (UF) is used for the enrichment and purification of small colloidal particles and proteins. We explore the influence of different membrane geometries on the particle transport in, and the efficiency of, inside-out cross-flow UF. For this purpose, we generalize the accurate and numerically efficient modified boundary layer approximation (mBLA) method, developed in recent work by us for a hollow cylindrical membrane, to parallel flat sheet geometries with one or two solvent-permeable membrane sheets.

Cross-flow ultrafiltration is a pressure-driven separation and enrichment process of small colloidal particles where a colloidal feed dispersion is continuously pumped through a membrane pipe permeable to the solvent only. We present a semi-analytic modified boundary layer approximation (mBLA) method for calculating the inhomogeneous concentration-polarization (CP) layer of particles near the membrane and the dispersion flow in a cross-flow filtration setup with a hollow fiber membrane. Conditions are established for which unwarranted axial flow and permeate flow reversal are excluded, and non-monotonic CP profiles are observed.

The α-galactosyl epitope is a terminal -glycan moiety of glycoproteins found in mammals except in humans, and thus, it is recognized as an antigen that provokes an immunogenic response in humans. Accordingly, it is necessary to analyze the α-galactosyl structure in biopharmaceuticals or organ transplants. Changes in mucin-type -glycosylation of human proteins affect protein function, immune response, and cancer progression. Since -glycoproteins are characterized by the microheterogeneity of diverse -glycans with no conserved sequence and the macroheterogeneity of multiple glycosylation sites on serine and/or threonine in human proteins, the assessment of different mucin types, such as Tn-antigen, core 1, and core 2, and their extended core types in -glycopeptides, is extremely challenging.
