The effects of ellagic acid on the liver and remote organs' oxidative stress and structure after hepatic ischemia reperfusion injury caused by pringle maneuver in rats.

Introduction: We aimed to investigate the possible protective effects of ellagic acid (EA) on the liver and remote organs against the hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury.

Methods: Forty Wistar-Albino rats were divided into four groups each containing 10 rats. Group I with laparotomy only, Group II with laparatomy and ellagic acid application, Group III with hepatic ischemia-reperfusion and Group IV with hepatic ischemia-reperfusion and ellagic acid application.

Serum M30 and M65 values in patients with advanced stage non-small-cell lung cancer compared with controls.

Background: M30 and M65 are derivatives of cytokeratin 18 and released from the epithelial cell during cell death. These markers can be used to evaluate prognosis and chemotherapy response in several tumours. We evaluated serum M30 and M65 values in patients with advanced nonsmall- cell lung cancer (NSCLC) compared with those in a healthy group.

The prognostic value of detecting symptomatic or asymptomatic recurrence in patients with gastric cancer after a curative gastrectomy.

Background: Although studies have investigated whether a routine follow-up should be performed after a gastrectomy, no consensus has been reached on the significance of the follow-up or the optimal surveillance protocol. Background: Although a close correlation between PRL-3 overexpression and lymph node metastasis has been reported in gastric cancer, its clinical utility as a useful prognostic molecular marker remains unclear.

Methods: Prognostic significance of PRL-3 expression was analyzed immunohistochemically in 110 patients with gastric cancer who had undergone curative gastrectomy.

Results: There was a significant correlation between gender, histology, lymph node metastasis, the presence of recurrence, and the level of PRL-3 expression.

Gemcitabine alone versus combination of gemcitabine and cisplatin for the treatment of patients with locally advanced and/or metastatic pancreatic carcinoma: a retrospective analysis of multicenter study.

Several randomized Phase II and III trials suggest that the combination of gemcitabine and cisplatin (GemCis) response rates were higher than Gemcitabine (Gem) alone, however the trials were not enough powered to indicate a statistically significant prolongation of survival in patients with advanced pancreatic adenocarcinoma. The aim of this retrospective multicenter study is to evaluated the efficiency of Gem alone versus GemCis in patients with locally advanced and/or metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma .

Fetal cardiac circulation in isolated aortic atresia assessed with ultrasound.

Congenital heart diseases are common, with an incidence of more than 8 in 1000 live births. Aortic atresia is a rare diagnosis and its prognosis is very poor. In this article, we present a case of isolated aortic atresia, a very rare cardiovascular anomaly, and its fetal ultrasound findings which include blood flow at foramen ovale from left to right, right deviation of the interventricular septum, dysfunction of the mitral valve and cardiomegaly.

Taxane-based mono- or combination therapy for managing metastatic breast cancer (MBC) in routine practice: a multinational prospective observational study.

This study was aimed to establish clinical efficacy and tolerability of gemcitabine and cisplatin combination in patients with metastatic triple negative breast cancer progressing after anthracycline and taxane based chemotherapies.Thirty-three patients who were given cisplatin and gemcitabine for triple negative and metastatic breast cancer were evaluated retrospectively. Primary hydatid disease of diaphragm with subcutenous extension.

While diaphragmatic hydatid disease is a rare condition, subcutaneous extension of the disease is very rare. A 33-year-old female visited our clinic due to swelling on the right upper quadrant of the abdomen. Thoraco-abdominal CT scan and MRI revealed a hydatid cyst (110 x 98 x 78 mm) located in the costal part of the hemidiaphragm extending into the preperitoneal space and protruding intercostally to a subcutaneous area.

Co-existence of gastrointestinal stromal tumors with other primary neoplasms.

Background/aims: Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most common primary mesenchymal neoplasms of the tubular gastrointestinal tract (GI). Here, we present a series of 32 patients diagnosed with a primary neoplasm in addition to GIST, from six different institutions in Turkey.

Methodology: In total, 200 patients with GIST were evaluated; 32 patients with both GISTs and other primary malignancies were identified.

A retrospective analysis of women's chances to become pregnant after completion of chemotherapy: a single center experience.

Purpose: With the improvement in anticancer therapies, the survival of women with malignancies has increased and infertility may affect the quality of life of premenopausal women, who experience temporary or permanent amenorrhea due to chemotherapy. The aim of this study was to review the rate of pregnancies among women with malignancy previously treated with chemotherapy.

Methods: We retrospectively recorded 317 women younger than 40 years of age who were treated with chemotherapy (and a number of them with additional radiotherapy/RT) due to several malignancies between 2007-2010.
