Introduction: We aimed to investigate the possible protective effects of ellagic acid (EA) on the liver and remote organs against the hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury.
Methods: Forty Wistar-Albino rats were divided into four groups each containing 10 rats. Group I with laparotomy only, Group II with laparatomy and ellagic acid application, Group III with hepatic ischemia-reperfusion and Group IV with hepatic ischemia-reperfusion and ellagic acid application.
Background: M30 and M65 are derivatives of cytokeratin 18 and released from the epithelial cell during cell death. These markers can be used to evaluate prognosis and chemotherapy response in several tumours. We evaluated serum M30 and M65 values in patients with advanced nonsmall- cell lung cancer (NSCLC) compared with those in a healthy group.

In the present study, we evaluated the significance of the presence or absence of symptoms in the detection of recurrences after curative gastrectomy for gastric cancer.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 173 patients with recurrent gastric cancer who underwent radical gastrectomy.
Purpose: The majority of patients with pancreatic cancer present with advanced disease. Systemic chemotherapy for patients with pancreatic cancer has limited impact on overall survival (OS). Patients eligible for chemotherapy should be selected carefully.

Materials And Methods: In total, 1365 microcalcification-only lesions were included in this study. The breast biopsy database was reviewed retrospectively.
Background: Locally advanced colorectal cancers are best treated with multivisceral resections. The aim of this study is to evaluate early and late results after multivisceral resections.
Methods: All patients operated for primary colorectal cancer between 2001 and 2010 were -reviewed.
Background: Although a close correlation between PRL-3 overexpression and lymph node metastasis has been reported in gastric cancer, its clinical utility as a useful prognostic molecular marker remains unclear.
Methods: Prognostic significance of PRL-3 expression was analyzed immunohistochemically in 110 patients with gastric cancer who had undergone curative gastrectomy.
Results: There was a significant correlation between gender, histology, lymph node metastasis, the presence of recurrence, and the level of PRL-3 expression.
The majority of patients with pancreatic cancer is of advanced disease. Several randomized Phase II and III trials suggest that the combination of gemcitabine and cisplatin (GemCis) response rates were higher than Gemcitabine (Gem) alone, however the trials were not enough powered to indicate a statistically significant prolongation of survival in patients with advanced pancreatic adenocarcinoma. The aim of this retrospective multicenter study is to evaluated the efficiency of Gem alone versus GemCis in patients with locally advanced and/or metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma .

This non-interventional study in 12 different countries explored treatment patterns and progression-free survival (PFS) in routine practice.
Research Design And Methods: The prospective study was designed to determine factors associated with the choice of taxane-based regimens for MBC.
Background And Aim: Although Pyogenic Liver Abscess (PLA) has lower mortality rate in recent years due to the broad spectrum antibiotic usage, developed imaging techniques and improved intensive care services, it is still a potentially fatal disease. The objective of this study is to examine the treatment methods and our case load with the current literature.
Materials And Methods: Of 55 patients with PLA, between January 2000 and December 2009, records of 28 who received surgical drainage treatment have retrospectively been analysed.

Background: Laparoscopic abdominoperineal resection (APR) has been seldom studied apart from low anterior resections, and deserves to be separately analyzed. This study aims to compare perioperative and oncological outcomes of laparoscopic and conventional APRs performed for the treatment of mid and low rectal adenocarcinomas.
Materials And Methods: Patients operated for primary mid or low rectal adenocarcinoma between 2001 and 2009 in our institution were retrospectively investigated.
Small bowel obstruction is rarely caused by bezoars. An important cause of phytobezoars are dried fruits. A 56 year old man presented to our department with symptoms of acute intestinal obstruction.

Background: The principles of the treatment of rectal injuries have been determined based on the experiences gained from military injuries. While adopting these principles in civilian life, it is essential to know the characteristics of civilian rectal injuries as well as the risk factors affecting morbidity.
Methods: The characteristics of 29 inpatients who had been treated due to rectal injuries caused by gunshot wounds and penetrating devices were evaluated.
Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the possible protective role of antioxidant treatment with ellagic acid (EA) on lung injury after intestinal ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury using biochemical and histopatological approaches.
Materials And Methods: Forty rats were divided into four groups as control, control + EA, I/R, and I/R + EA. The control and control + EA groups were also anesthetized and subjected to laparotomy, but without clamp application.
Background: Extensive research has been performed regarding the association between platelet activity indices and various cardiovascular disorders. Less clear data, however, are present between these indices and deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the association between platelet activity indices and DVT in a relatively large population.
Background/aims: Adiponectin is secreted from adipose tissue and is characterized by hyperinsulinemia, which is related with obesity. Adiponectin levels are significantly lower in gastric cancer patients than in healthy controls. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between adiponectin levels in serum, tumor tissue and normal tissue with some other insulin resistance parameters.
