Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the mortality rates of cancer patients hospitalized with COVID-19 and identify clinical and demographic factors affecting those rates.
  • Out of 2401 COVID-19 patients, 92 cancer patients were analyzed, revealing a significantly higher mortality rate of 23.9% compared to 6.2% in the general COVID-19 population, with those having metastasis experiencing even higher rates.
  • Key factors influencing mortality included smoking status, and elevated levels of CRP, ferritin, LDH, and D-dimer, as well as lower levels of albumin and hemoglobin, indicating a need for more extensive research on these prognostic markers.
