The role of 99mTc mebrofenin hepatobiliary scanning in predicting common bile duct stones in patients with gallstone disease.

Background: A dilated common bile duct and/or elevated serum alkaline phosphatase, raises a suspicion of bile duct stone(s) in patients with gallstones. Cholangiography, either endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) or magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP), is the best method for diagnosing bile duct stones. ERCP has the disadvantage of being invasive, and there is a risk of complications; while MRCP is costly and is not widely available.

Two androst-5-ene derivatives: 16-[4-(3-chloropropoxy)-3-methoxybenzylidene]-17-oxoandrost-5-en-3 beta-ol and 16-[3-methoxy-4-(2-pyrrolidin-1-ylethoxy)benzylidene]-3 beta-pyrrolidinoandrost-5-en-17 beta-ol monohydrate.

In the steroidal nucleus of 16-[4-(3-chloropropoxy)-3-methoxybenzylidene]-17-oxoandrost-5-en-3 beta-ol, C(30)H(29)ClO(4), (I), the outer two six-membered rings are in chair conformations, while the five-membered ring and the central six-membered ring of the steroidal nucleus adopt half-chair and envelope conformations, respectively. In 16-[3-methoxy-4-(2-pyrrolidin-1-ylethoxy)benzylidene]-3 beta-pyrrolidinoandrost-5-en-17 beta-ol monohydrate, C(37)H(54)N(2)O(3).H(2)O, (II), one C atom of one of the outer six-membered rings of the steroid nucleus and the four C atoms of the ethoxypyrrolidine ring are disordered over two sites.

Synthesis and antineoplastic activity of 2-alkylaminoethyl derivatives of various steroidal oximes.

Various steroidal oxime ether derivatives in androstene and estrane series have been synthesized and evaluated for the antineoplastic activity at National Cancer Institute, Bethesda, Maryland, USA. O-alkylation of the oximes by various alkylaminoethyl halides gave the oxime ether derivatives. The 17alpha-ethynylandrostene derivatives 29 (DPJ-684), 30 (DPJ-685), 31 (DPJ-686) and estrane derivatives 35 (DPJ-531) and 36 (DPJ-532) were among the small percentage of compounds, which have been screened by NCI for in vivo hollow fiber assay by virtue of their activity against one or more human tumour cell lines in 60 cell line in vitro prescreen.

Primary malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the greater omentum.

Primary malignant mesenchymal tumours of the greater omentum are rare. We report a 40-year old man with a painless abdominal lump of two months duration. At laparotomy, the mass was found to be arising from the greater omentum.

Scintigraphic patterns of lymphocele in post-renal transplant.

Lymphocele is a common cause of fluid collection in post-renal transplant patients. Most of these patients are routinely followed up with 99mTc diethylenetriaminepentaacetate renal dynamic scintigraphy. The present study retrospectively reviews the range of findings with renal dynamic scintigraphy in documented lymphoceles.

The title compound, C(36)H(49)NO(5).H(2)O, has the outer two six-membered rings of the steroid nucleus in chair conformations. The central ring B of the steroid nucleus is in an 8beta,9alpha-half-chair conformation, while ring D of the steroid adopts a slightly distorted 13beta,14alpha-half-chair conformation.

Influence of HLA compatibility on renal graft survival using live unrelated & cadaver donors in India.

Background & Objectives: Living unrelated donor (LURD) renal transplantation has shown a rising trend over the last 5 yr at our center following the passing of The Transplantation of Human Organs Act by the Government of India in 1994. In this paper, the results of LURD and cadaver (CAD) donor renal transplantation are compared. We have also looked into factors that have a bearing on graft survival such as the extent of HLA mismatch (MM), infections, acute rejections (AR), donor age and sex.

Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia: role of high resolution computed tomography.

Pneumocystis carinii (PC) is a common opportunistic infection in renal transplant recipients and requires an early diagnosis for its successful treatment. For its definitive diagnosis PC needs to be demonstrated in bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid. At times BAL may not be possible or get delayed.

Results of renal transplantation on conventional immunosuppression in second decade in India: a single centre experience.

Background: In-spite of many renal transplant (RT) centres in the country, there is paucity of data on the survival results in India. Furthermore, there is hardly any data of results in second decade. In this study we present the results of RT in second decade at our centre.

Unusual complication of internal jugular vein cannulation.

Internal jugular cannulation is a common procedure in the hospitals. We report a rare complication where the guide wire was pushed into the internal jugular vein without threading the catheter through. Complications due to central venous cannulation are also discussed.

Embryonal sarcoma of the liver mimicking a hydatid cyst in an adult.

Undifferentiated (embryonal) sarcoma of the Liver is a rare malignant mesenchymal tumour. This presents predominantly in late childhood. It carries a dismal prognosis.

Recurrent abscess at site of laparoscopic cholecystectomy port due to spilled gallstones.

Spillage of gallstones is common during laparoscopic cholecystectomy and may lead to intra-abdominal abscesses and sinus formation. We describe two patients with recurrent abscess at the site of epigastric port due to presence of large spilled stone in the parietes following laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Removal of the stone led to resolution of symptoms.
