Background: Thyroid hemiagenesis (TH) is a rare congenital abnormality of the thyroid gland, characterised by the absence of one lobe. The true prevalence of this congenital abnormality is not known because the absence of one thyroid lobe usually does not cause clinical symptoms by itself. This study aims to identify the frequency of TH and associated diseases in outpatients referred to our clinic for the first time.

Our aim was to compare the effect of two antithyroid drugs (ATD) on P wave duration and dispersion (PWD) in patients with hyperthyroidism.
Methods: Fifty patients (13 men, 37 women; mean age 39.
Objectives: To determine the effect of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) as a major risk factor for severe erectile dysfunction (ED) in patients with metabolic syndrome (MS).
Methods: The study included 93 patients aged 30-70 years who had MS and ED. MS patients were divided into 2 groups: 37 patients with neither T2DM nor abnormal fasting glucose level (group 1) and 56 patients with T2DM (group 2).
Resistance to thyroid hormone (RTH) is a rare disease characterized by non-suppressed TSH in spite of high free thyroid hormone levels. Up to date, in the literature, there are more than 600 RTH cases, but co-incidental hypophyseal adenoma was reported in only 1 case. In the literature, despite reported cases with thyrotropinoma accompanying RTH, we could not find a case with somatotropinoma accompanying RTH.

Methods And Results: One hundred and thirty-two patients were evaluated (81 type 1 diabetic patients and 51 healthy volunteers). The detailed M-mode, two-dimensional, colour Doppler; PW Doppler; and TDI analyses were performed on resting subjects in a regular setting.
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) is a common disease affecting people in the world and its incidence is increasing rapidly. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the most important cause of mortality and morbidity among patients with type 2 DM. Patients with diabetes have a poorer prognosis than patients without diabetes.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTpl2 (cot/MAP3K8) is an upstream kinase of MEK in the ERK pathway. It plays an important role in Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) production and signaling. We have discovered that 8-halo-4-(3-chloro-4-fluoro-phenylamino)-6-[(1H-[1,2,3]triazol-4-ylmethyl)-amino]-quinoline-3-carbonitriles (4) are potent inhibitors of this enzyme.

Wide angle X-ray scattering on oriented bilayers in the fluid phase indicate that the area per lipid A is slightly larger for DHPC than for DPPC. Low angle X-ray scattering yields A=65.

Whether the factors of interest were associated with SBI is investigated.
Methods: One hundred and forty-two subjects with a mean age of 52.
Background: In cases of thyroid diseases, many of the symptoms arise on the skin. In this study, we aimed to detect and compare the skin findings and accompanying dermatoses of patients with thyroid diseases.
Materials And Methods: 220 patients with thyroid diseases, who did not have any medical cure, and 90 healthy individuals as a control group attended our study.

Background: Subclinical hepatic dysfunction after laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) has been described in the literature. However, this alteration is not encountered in all patients. In order to address this situation, a prospective study was conducted to investigate the effect of abdominal perfusion pressure (APP) on liver function tests after LC performed under constant intra-abdominal pressure (IAP).

The late bony complications of the disease have therefore started to decline rapidly. Brown tumours are one of the bony complications of hyperparathyroidism.

Methods: We describe the clinical, laboratory, and imaging findings of the study patient.
Results: An 89-year-old woman with a 5-year history of type 2 diabetes mellitus was admitted to the emergency department because of unconsciousness.
Background And Aim: Mesh usage in repair of acutely incarcerated hernia is still a concern owing to infectious complications. The aim of this prospective clinical observational cohort study was to evaluate factors that increase the risk of bowel necrosis and to document the clinical outcome of the patients with acutely incarcerated groin hernias treated by non-absorbable mesh.
Materials And Methods: Ninety-five adult patients with acutely incarcerated groin hernias who underwent prosthetic herniorrhaphy from 1997 to 2005 were prospectively included.

This paper aims to underscore the importance of insulin intensification, while highlighting the clinical utility of modern premixes through intensification lessons, by utilising data from key clinical trials, and from the recently published large observational PRESENT Study. Insulin intensification is any change made to an initial insulin regimen to improve glycaemic control. Yet, despite established glycaemic targets, current HbA1c levels in insulin-treated patients suggest that 'real-world' insulin regimens are not optimally intensified.

We compared the ultrasonographic features of thyroid nodules less than and greater than one centimeter and correlated this information with the cytological results for TFNAB and the final histopathological diagnosis in selected patients.
Methods: We evaluated 520 thyroid nodules (247 subcentimeter [group 1], 273 supracentimeter [group 2]) in 426 patients.
Aims: The aim of this analysis was to assess the efficacy and safety of intensifying insulin therapy from a basal-only regimen to biphasic insulin aspart 30 (BIAsp 30) in patients with type 2 diabetes previously failing to reach glycaemic targets.
Methods And Patients: The analysis is based on data from a subpopulation of the Physicians' Routine Evaluation of Safety and Efficacy of NovoMix 30 Therapy (PRESENT) study, which was a 6-month observational study in 15 countries. This subanalysis included patients previously receiving long-acting analogue insulin (AB; n = 348), or human basal insulin (long and intermediate acting) (HB; n = 3414), who were transferred to BIAsp 30.
Introduction: Hirsutism is commonly a consequence of ovarian androgen over-production. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or peripheral hypersensitivity to normal androgen circulating levels (idiopathic hirsutism) can be the underlying cause. Several drugs with anti-androgenic properties, such as cyproterone acetate (CPA), spironolactone and flutamide have been used to treat hirsutism, but the efficacy of these drugs has yet to be fully elucidated.

Objective: To present a case in which diffuse cystic bronchiectasis was associated with left microtia/external auditory canal atresia.
Clinical Presentation: A 10-year-old girl suffering from cough, fever, dyspnea and sputum for 6 months was transferred to our clinic due to the diagnosis of bronchopneumonia. She had recurrent episodes of bronchopneumonia.
Aim: The Physicians' Routine Evaluation of Safety and Efficacy of NovoMix 30 Therapy (PRESENT) study aims to assess the safety and efficacy of biphasic insulin aspart 30 (BIAsp 30) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in routine clinical practice.
Methods: This was a 6-month, prospective, multinational, multiethnic observational study involving 21 977 patients from 13 countries (India, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates). The patients were transferred to BIAsp 30 with or without oral antidiabetic drugs (OADs) from prior treatment with OAD (n = 8583), insulin (n = 5942), OAD + insulin (n = 4673) or diet (i.
Aim: The safety and efficacy of biphasic insulin aspart (BIAsp30) were evaluated in patients uncontrolled on previous treatment (human insulin +/- oral hypoglycaemic agent [OHA] or OHA only) in routine clinical practice.
Methods: This was a large, multi-national, multicentre, prospective, 6-month study in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients who were prescribed BIAsp30. Changes in glycated haemoglobin (HbA(1c)), fasting plasma glucose (FPG), postprandial plasma glucose (PPPG), proportion who achieved target HbA(1c) < 7% and rate of hypoglycaemic episodes were assessed.
