Search for the Theta+ Pentaquark in the gammad--> DeltanK+ reaction measured with the CLAS spectrometer.

For the first time, the reaction gammad-->DeltanK+ has been analyzed in order to search for the exotic pentaquark baryon Theta+(1540). The data were taken at Jefferson Laboratory, using the Hall-B tagged-photon beam of energy between 0.8 and 3.

Wireless transmission of ECG signal.

In this study, the ECG signal were measured as noiseless with Ag/AgCl electrodes, then converted digital data using pulse code modulation (PCM) technique. The digital data were then sent to receiver where it is in 433 MHz FM/FSK transmitter, which has 10 mW output power and 9.6 Kps transmission speed.

Atopy patch testing in children with asthma and rhinitis symptoms allergic to house dust mite.

The atopy patch test (APT) is generally used to assess immunoglobulin E (IgE) mediated sensitization to allergens in patients with atopic dermatitis, but its diagnostic role in children with respiratory allergy is still controversial. The aim of the study was to evaluate APT with house dust mite (HDM) in children with asthma and rhinitis symptoms allergic to HDM and its relevance to skin prick test (SPT) diameters and specific IgE levels. The study population consisted of 33 children, aged 8-16 yr (median: 12 yr) with asthma and 30 children with allergic rhinitis in the same age range (median: 11 yr).

Search for the Theta+ pentaquark in the reaction gammad --> pK-K+n.

A search for the Theta+ in the reaction gammad --> pK-K+n was completed using the CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab. A study of the same reaction, published earlier, reported the observation of a narrow Theta+ resonance. The present experiment, with more than 30 times the integrated luminosity of our earlier measurement, does not show any evidence for a narrow pentaquark resonance.

Delayed type allergic reaction following the use of nonlatex rubber dam during endodontic treatment.

Aim: To describe the development of a delayed type allergic reaction 24 h following the use of nonlatex rubber dam during endodontic treatment. The symptoms were alleviated with adequate medication; however, the patient rejected any further analysis.

The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of paclitaxel plus platinum-based chemotherapy in the treatment of extraovarian peritoneal serous papillary carcinoma (EPSPC) and ovarian serous papillary cancer (OSPC). Only the patients treated with initial surgery plus postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy and having FIGO stage IIIC disease with omental and/or peritoneal involvement were analyzed. Thirty-two patients with EPSPC and 43 with OSPC were included in this study.

Netherton syndrome: report of identical twins presenting with severe atopic dermatitis.

We report the cases of 4-year-old identical twin sisters who presented with severe atopic dermatitis with intractable skin manifestations and multiple food allergies. Netherton syndrome (NS) (OMIM 256500) was suspected due to very high serum IgE levels, growth retardation, severe food allergies and typical hair finding (trichorrhexis invaginata). A definite diagnosis was made by genetic analysis.

In this study, tumour tissue samples of 85 primary breast cancer patients were evaluated for phosphatase and tensin homolog deleted on chromosome ten (PTEN), cyclin D1 and P27/Kip1 expression patterns. The exclusive reaction gammap-->K0K+n was studied in the photon energy range between 1.6 and 3.8 GeV searching for evidence of the exotic baryon Theta+ (1540)-->nK+.

Current role of laser angioplasty of restenotic coronary stents.

Treatment of in-stent restenosis (ISR) with conventional percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) causes significant recurrent neointimal tissue growth in 30-85%. Therefore, laser ablation of intrastent neointimal hyperplasia before balloon dilation can be an attractive alternative. However, the long-term outcomes of such treatment have not been studied thoroughly enough.

Capecitabine-induced severe hypertriglyceridemia: report of two cases.

Objective: To report 2 cases of severe hypertriglyceridemia associated with the use of oral capecitabine.

Case Summaries: The first patient was a 73-year-old woman with metastatic breast carcinoma who received capecitabine 2500 mg/m2/day in 2 divided doses for 2 weeks followed by a one week rest period. The baseline triglyceride level was 324 mg/dL; after 2 cycles of capecitabine, levels increased to 916 mg/dL.

Diffuse thoracic lymphangiomatosis with disseminated intravascular coagulation in a child.

An 8.5-year-old girl who presented with chronic cough and hemoptysis underwent a CT scan of the chest showing diffuse mediastinal and parenchymal infiltration and pleural effusion, and laboratory findings showed disseminated intravascular coagulation. Disseminated lymphangiomatosis was diagnosed after an open-lung biopsy.

Comparison of the effects of desflurane and sevoflurane on the QTc interval and QT dispersion.

Objective: The effects of desflurane and sevoflurane on QT interval and QT dispersion have been investigated in a prospective, double-blind, randomized study of patients undergoing noncardiac surgery.

Interventions: Sixty American Society of Anaesthesiologists physical status I-II adult patients were randomly assigned to two groups. Anaesthesia was induced with inhalation of desflurane (desflurane group) or sevoflurane (sevoflurane group) in increasing concentrations to 3 minimal alveolar concentration level.

The first camps in Turkey for asthmatic children: six years' experience.

Gastrointestinal involvement in POEMS syndrome: a novel clinical manifestation.

POEMS syndrome (polyneuropathy, organomegaly, endocrinopathy, monoclonal gammopathy, and skin changes) is characterised by a rare multisystem disorder of unknown pathogenesis. Although its pathophysiology is not well understood, overexpression of proinflammatory cytokines has been implicated. Gastrointestinal system disorders have not been reported among the components of the syndrome.

Prevalence of intestinal parasites in three socioeconomically-different regions of Sivas, Turkey.

The study was carried out to determine the prevalence of parasites in three socioeconomically-different regions (Alibaba, Esentepe, and Cayboyu) of Sivas, Turkey, to determine the most accurate method for the diagnosis of taeniasis and enterobiasis, to determine the importance of household visits in primary healthcare to control parasitic diseases, and to treat intestinal parasitic diseases in those regions. Both stool specimens and cellophane tape (CT) samples were taken from 1,864 participants during 641 household visits in the three regions. The age groups included were pre-school [(0-6 year(s)], primary school (7-15 years), and the upper age group (16 years and above).
