What are the levels and interactions of neuroligin-1, neuroligin-3, and inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, IL-8) in children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder?

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is characterized by deficits in social interaction, restricted interests, and repetitive behaviors. Several genes, including synaptic proteins and environmental risk factors, play a role in the etiology of autism. We aimed to evaluate the relationship between neuroligin-1 (NLGN-1) and neuroligin-3 (NLGN-3) levels, which are neuronal cell adhesion molecules (CAMs), and inflammatory cytokine (IL-6, IL-8) levels with disease severity and symptom clusters and with each other in children with ASD.

Could Maladaptive Daydreaming Delay ADHD Diagnosis Until Adulthood? Clinical Characteristics of Adults With ADHD Based on Diagnosis Age.

Introduction: Our study aimed to compare the sociodemographic, diagnostic, clinical, and self-report scale data of adults diagnosed with ADHD in childhood/adolescence versus adulthood and to identify risk factors associated with delayed/missed diagnosis for ADHD.

Method: Sociodemographic, clinical, and diagnostic data of 214 adults with ADHD, followed at the Adult Neurodevelopmental Disorders Clinic, Selçuk University, between January 2022 and January 2024, were analyzed. The diagnostic evaluations were made using the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-5 Clinician Version.

The differential diagnostic utility of the social communication questionnaire in mild intellectual disability and autism spectrum disorder: a case control study.

Objectives: This study investigated the utility of specific predictive and discriminative items within the Social Communication Questionnaire (SCQ) for distinguishing between autism spectrum disorder (ASD), intellectual disability (ID), and co-occurring ASD + ID in children.

Methods: A total of 137 children aged 4 to 12 years (52 typically developing (TD), 34 ASD, 26 ID, 25 ASD + ID) were included in the study. Cognitive development assessments were conducted for the ASD, ID, and ASD + ID groups in suitable cases.

Microsatellite instability and somatic gene variant profile in solid organ tumors.

Introduction: Absence of mismatch repair (MMR) genes in tumor cells or errors in the replication repair process may lead to DNA-MMR deficiency and microsatellite instability (MSI) formation. Specific tumor environments where gene variations are observed are believed to be conducive to the formation of MSI. This study aimed to determine the MSI status, MMR protein expression, and somatic mutation profile in solid organ tumors.

Characterization and functional insights of the novel RC-type plasmid pAnox1 from Anoxybacillus gonensis 05S15.

The plasmid pAnox1, isolated from Anoxybacillus gonensis 05S15, was sequenced and characterized as a circular, double-stranded DNA molecule of 1592 base pairs with a GC content of 40.01 %. Despite its cryptic nature and small genome, bioinformatic analyses identified conserved motifs associated with replication-related proteins, though BLAST searches revealed no significant homology with other plasmids.

The mediating role of ability to delay gratification in the relationship between emotional abuse and dieting behavior in healthy adolescents: Considering body mass index as a covariate.

Objectives: In the present study we investigated the relationship between interpersonal childhood trauma, ability to delay gratification (DG), and disordered eating attitudes among adolescents.

Methods: Data were collected from 145 adolescents aged 12 to 17 through an online survey distributed to parents and legal guardians. The sociodemographic data form, Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ), Eating Attitudes Test-26 (EAT-26), and Delaying Gratification Inventory were filled out by adolescents in the study.

Introduction: Chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) is characterized by persistent or recurrent pruritic lesions that last more than 6 weeks. Patients with CSU may experience sleep disturbances, particularly due to itching. Biological rhythms (chronotypes) are categorized as morningness, intermediate, and eveningness types.

The association of reproductive hormones, thyroid function, and vitamin levels with premature ejaculation: A prospective case-control study.

Purpose: To investigate whether serum hormone (testosterone, prolactin, gonadotropins, and thyroid hormones) and vitamin (vitamin B, folic acid, and vitamin D) levels are associated with premature ejaculation (PE).

Materials And Methods: This prospective case-control study included 126 patients with PE (lifelong PE [LPE] in 94 and acquired PE [APE] in 32) who presented to the urology outpatient clinic between April 2016 and January 2023 and 92 healthy men as a control group. The diagnosis of PE was based on the criteria defined by the International Society for Sexual Medicine.

Microplastic retention in marine vegetation canopies under breaking irregular waves.

The present study provides indications and underlying drivers of wave-induced transport and retention potential of microplastic particles (MP) in marine vegetation canopies having different densities. The anthropogenic occurrence of MP in coastal waters is well documented in the recent literature. It is acknowledged that coastal vegetation can serve as a sink for MP due to its energy dissipating features, which can mimic a novel ecosystem service.

Objective: Acne vulgaris, a prevalent chronic condition among adolescents, significantly impacts patients' quality of life and self-esteem. Our aim was to investigate whether how adolescents perceive their family emotional atmosphere has an impact on their acne severity, quality of life, and self-esteem.

Materials And Methods: This study included 118 patients with acne vulgaris who completed various assessments, including a sociodemographic data form, the Acne Quality of Life Scale, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, the Shortened Level of Expressed Emotion Scale (SLEES) and, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale.

A comparison between hypertonic dextrose prolotherapy and conventional physiotherapy in patients with knee osteoarthritis.

The aim of the present study was to compare the efficacy of hypertonic dextrose prolotherapy (HDP) with conventional physiotherapy (CPT) in improving symptoms in females with knee osteoarthritis (OA). The present study included 60 patients with a diagnosis of knee OA. The patients were randomly assigned to the HDP (n=30) and CPT (n=30) groups.

Effect of cervical and lumbosacral spina bifida cystica on volumes of intracranial structures in children.

Purpose: Spina bifida is a major disorder that occurs when the membranes of the spinal cord and medulla fail to close during the embryonic period and affects the individual for the rest of life. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of pregabalin plus exercise vs. pregabalin treatment alone on the electromyographic nociceptive flexion reflex (NFR) threshold in patients with fibromyalgia (FM). For this purpose, the present study included a total of 40 patients diagnosed with FM according to the American College of Rheumatology 2010 criteria.

Robust ferromagnetism in two-dimensional GeC/CrN heterobilayers.

We have investigated the electronic and finite temperature magnetic properties of germanium carbide (GeC) and ferromagnetic chromium nitride (CrN) heterobilayers by using first-principles calculations based on density functional theory with Hubbard U correction and an effective anisotropic Heisenberg spin model. The dynamical stability of different stacking formations of heterobilayers is ensured by considering the phonon spectra. All the stacking patterns show half-metallicity with an out-of-plane easy-axis ferromagnetic ground state.

A scoping review of tissue interposition flaps used in vesicovaginal fistulae repair.

Background: Research on the use of tissue interposition flaps (TIFs) in vesicovaginal fistulae (VVF) repair is a broad area where a very wide range of natural and synthetic materials have been used. The occurrence of VVF is also diverse in the social and clinical settings, resulting in a parallel heterogeneity in the published literature on its treatment. The use of synthetic and autologous TIFs in VVF repair is not yet standardized with a lack of the most efficacious type and technique of the TIF.

This study aimed to define the copy numbers of and genes and the diagnosis rate and carrier frequency of spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) in the Thrace region of Turkey. In this study, the frequency of deletions in exons 7 and 8 in the gene and copy numbers were investigated. The present data set is combined with additional data from the literature and systematically analyzed. A new framework is developed for predicting incipient motion conditions for foreign particles, accounting for variations in static friction, hydraulic roughness, and hiding-exposure effects.
