Effectiveness of combining greater occipital nerve block and pulsed radiofrequency treatment in patients with chronic migraine: a double-blind, randomized controlled trial.

Background: Pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) treatment targeting the greater occipital nerve (GON) has shown efficacy in treating various conditions. This double-blind, randomized controlled study aimed to evaluate the effects of combining PRF therapy with GON block (GONB) therapy in patients with chronic migraine.

Methods: The study consisted of two groups: GONB and GONB + PRF, each comprising 16 patients with chronic migraine.

The Effects of Fluoxetine and Agomelatine on Neurocognitive Functions and Sleep in Patients with Major Depressive Disorder.

Background: We aimed to evaluate the effects of 6 weeks of agomelatine versus fluoxetine treatment on cognition and sleep.

Methods: Agomelatine 25 mg/day and fluoxetine 20 mg/day were administered to major depressive disorder (MDD) patients. Assessments were conducted before the treatment and at the sixth week of treatment via psychometric measures and comprehensive neurocognitive assessments of various functions, including executive skills, attention, memory, verbal fluency, and speed of processing.

The effects of hydroxychloroquine-induced oxidative stress on fracture healing in an experimental rat model.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate whether hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) sulfate causes oxidative stress (OS) and its effect on fracture healing in an experimental rat model.

Materials And Methods: In this experimental study, open diaphyseal femur fractures were induced in 24 eight-week-old male rats (mean weight: 225±25 g; range, 200 to 250 g) and then fixed with K-wire. The rats were divided into four groups: HCQ-2, control-2 (C-2), HCQ-4, and control-4 (C-4).

Evaluation of cortical and trabecular bone structure of the mandible in patients using L-Thyroxine.

Background: Long-term use of L-Thyroxine (LT4), the synthetic thyroxine hormone used for thyroid hormone replacement therapy, is an important risk factor for osteoporosis. The aim of this study was to investigate the differences between mandibular cortical index (MCI) and trabecular bone fractal dimension (FD) values on panoramic radiographs of patients using LT4 and control subjects.

Methods: A total of 142 female patients, 71 cases and 71 controls, were analyzed in the study.

This study aimed to examine the difference between the fractal dimension (FD) values of the mandibular trabecular bone and the panoramic mandibular index (PMI), mandibular cortical index (MCI) and mandibular cortical thickness (MCW) of patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and healthy control group. A total of 184 individuals (92 cases, 92 controls), were examined in our study. PMI, MCI, and MCW values were calculated on panoramic images of all individuals.

Infraclavicular Catheter in MELAS Syndrome for Analgesic Purposes.

MELAS syndrome is defined as mitochondrial myopathy accompanied by encephalopathy, lactic acidosis, myoclonus, stroke-like episodes. It has a progressive course, multi-systemic effects and severe complications. Myoclonic contractions are unresponsive to many anti-epileptic drugs; these contractions and spasms may lead to severe pain.

Optic nerve sheath diameter measurement for prediction of postdural puncture headache.

Purpose: Intracranial hypotension due to cerebrospinal fluid leak is mainly the causal factor for the pathophysiology of postdural puncture headache (PDPH). In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) measurement in predicting the development of PDPH in patients undergoing spinal anesthesia.

Methods: According to the American Society of Anesthesiology (ASA) physical classification I-III, 83 patients aged 18-65 years scheduled for spinal anesthesia for elective surgery were included in the study.

The MAP kinase family, which plays an active role in wound healing, is a well-characterized large family of serine/threonine kinases and regulates processes such as proliferation, oncogenesis, differentiation, and inflammation in the cell.

The effects of cephalexin on fracture healing in a rat femur fracture model.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to examine the effects of cephalexin on the fracture union histomorphometrically, radiologically, biomechanically, immunohistochemically, and histopathologically in a rat femur fracture model and to evaluate the effects of the antibiotics to be used in the prophylaxis of fracture infection on the union of the fracture.

Materials And Methods: A total of 48 male Wistar rats were divided into four groups as two-week control (C2) and cephalexin (CEP2) and four-week control (C4) and cephalexin (CEP4). After establishment of standard fracture model on right femurs, 60 mg/kg/day of cephalexin was applied to CEP2 and CEP4 by oral gavage.

Pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) is a minimally invasive percutaneous technique which seems to be safer and easier to perform.

The effects of thymoquinone on steroid-induced femoral head osteonecrosis: An experimental study in rats.

Objectives: In this study, we aimed to evaluate the antioxidant, anti-apoptotic, osteoblastic and hypolipidemic effects of thymoquinone (TQ) treatment on the steroid-induced osteonecrosis of femoral head (ONFH) model in rats.

Materials And Methods: A total of 24 rats were randomly divided into four groups: the control group administered saline; the TQ group administered 10 mg/kg/day TQ orally; lipopolysaccharide/methylprednisolone (LPS/MPS) group administered 20 µg/kg intraperitoneally LPS and 40 mg/kg intramuscularly MPS to establish ONFH model; and the LPS/ MPS+TQ group administered both LPS/MPS and, then, TQ once daily for four weeks. All rats were sacrificed after intracardiac blood collection and their right femurs were removed.

Adverse reactions in venom immunotherapy protocols: conventional versus ultra-rush.

Background: Venom immunotherapy (VIT) is an effective treatment in the patients at high risk of anaphylaxis or life-threatening systemic reactions due to Hymenoptera venom allergy. But, systemic and large local reactions can be observed, especially during the build-up phase of VIT. We evaluated the safety of conventional and ultra-rush build-up protocols.

Background And Objectives: The most common cause of oculocardiac reflex (OCR) is traction of the extraocular muscles. Therefore, strabismus surgery is highly risk for the development of this complication. This study aimed to investigate whether an association exists between the occurrence of OCR and the type of extraocular muscle manipulated during strabismus in a pediatric population.

Effectiveness of interventional procedures for post-laminectomy syndrome: A retrospective study.

Objectives: In our study, we aimed to evaluate the change in numerical rating scale (NRS) score and interventional procedures performed on patients with post-laminectomy syndrome whose NRS score 7 and above according to the NRS.

Methods: This study was carried out by examining the files of 107 patients, including 69 women and 38 men, aged 18 years and over who had applied between February 1, 2010, and February 1, 2015. Pain localization, post-operative periods, interventional procedures, and post-procedural pain status were determined using pain monitoring forms and hospital automation system in our clinic.

Effects of different vardenafil doses on bone healing in a rat fracture model.

Objectives: We aimed to investigate the radiological, biomechanical, histopathological, histomorphometric, and immunohistochemical effects of different doses of vardenafil on fracture healing.

Materials And Methods: Fifty-one rats were divided into three groups. Group V5 was given 5 mg/kg/day of vardenafil; Group V10 was given 10 mg/kg/day of vardenafil; and the control group was given the same volume of saline.

Objectives: The aim of the study was to investigate sensory information processing induced by visual sexual stimuli and to assess its relationship with sexual behaviors and symptoms in patients with vaginismus.

Methods: Twenty-one patients with vaginismus and 20 controls were included in the study. The sociodemographic information and sexual life history of the patients with vaginismus and controls were examined and electrophysiological measurements related to auditory P50 sensory gating were obtained using a double click paradigm during by sexual/horror visual stimulation, which was thought to be related to the pathophysiology of the disease.

Urine in the thigh, an extraordinary complication of pelvic fracture: Vesicocutaneous fistula.

We present a case of a 67-year-old woman who was initially treated conservatively for pelvic fracture. After 4 weeks, she was admitted to our clinic with swelling and pain in the distal part of her right thigh. Ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging showed accumulation of fluid between the subcutaneous adipose tissue and fascia.

[Pharmachologic treatment of acute postoperative pain: A clinical practice guideline of The Turkish Society of Algology].

The effect of different irrigation solutions on fracture healing in a rat femur fracture model.

Materials And Methods: This experimental animal study, conducted between April 2018 and January 2019, included 48 male Sprague Dawley® rats (aging 9 weeks; weighing 356 g) which were randomly divided into four groups: control (saline), HPO, PVP-I and CHG. Rat model of femoral fracture was established and intramedullary fixation was applied.
