Probiotic Formulations Containing Fixed and Essential Oils Ameliorates SIBO-Induced Gut Dysbiosis in Rats.

Dysbiosis of the gut microbiota is associated with the pathogenesis of intestinal diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), and metabolic disease states such as allergies, cardiovascular diseases, obesity, and diabetes. SIBO is a condition characterized by an increased number (>1 × 10 CFU) of abnormal bacterial species in the small intestine. Interest in SIBO has gained importance due to increased awareness of the human microbiome and its potential relationships with human health and disease, which has encouraged new work in this area.

Uterine Serosal Inclusion Cysts with Greater Omentum Involvement in a Cat.

A 7-year-old nulliparous Chinchilla queen was admitted to a veterinary clinic for routine ovariohysterectomy. Examination of the uterus, greater omentum and varicose ovarian veins revealed multiple thin-walled cysts filled with a transparent fluid over the serosal surfaces of these organs. Histologically, the cysts were of variable size, filled with a small amount of mucinous fluid, and had thin walls that contained hypocellular collagen and a few small calibre vessels.

First detection and molecular characterisation of a pigeon aviadenovirus A and pigeon circovirus co-infection associated with Young Pigeon Disease Syndrome (YPDS) in Turkish pigeons (Columba livia domestica).

Pigeon aviadenovirus A and Pigeon circovirus are both DNA viruses, infect and cause severe clinical diseases in pigeons. These viruses are associated with an immunosuppression syndrome similar to 'Young Pigeon Disease Syndrome' (YPDS). This study reports the identification of a natural co-infection, with severe clinical signs (crop vomiting, watery diarrhoea, anorexia and sudden death) of Pigeon aviadenovirus A and Pigeon circovirus in a breeding pigeon flock in Central Anatolia, Turkey.

Is induced membrane technique effective in reconstruction of mandibular segmental bone defects? An experimental study.

This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of different graft materials using induced membrane technique for reconstruction of mandibular segmental bone defects. New Zealand rabbits were used as the experimental animal. As first-stage surgical procedure, segmental bone defects were created at the lower border of the mandibula in all groups.

The Prevalence of Complementary and Integrative Health Approach Use and Quality of Life Among Patients With Heart Failure: A Cross-sectional, Descriptive, and Comparative Study.

This study aimed to determine the prevalence of complementary and integrative health approach (CIHA) use in patients with heart failure (HF) and compare quality of life (QoL) between CIHA users and nonusers. This was a cross-sectional, descriptive, and comparative study including 130 patients with HF in Turkey. The data were collected using the sociodemographic and CIHA information form and the Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire (KCCQ).

Marek's disease virus in vaccinated poultry flocks in Turkey: its first isolation with molecular characterization.

Marek's disease (MD) is an important disease of avian species and a potential threat to the poultry industry worldwide. In this study, 16 dead commercial chickens from flocks with suspected MD were necropsied immediately after death. Pathological findings were compatible with MD, and gallid alphaherpesvirus 2 was identified in PCR of spleen samples.

Primary Unilateral Small Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of the Kidney in a Dog.

Primary small cell carcinomas are rare in domestic animals. A mass measuring 15 × 20 × 9 cm was detected in the left abdominal cavity of a 7.5-year-old female golden retriever.

The Effect of Infliximab on Intestinal Anastomosis Healing in Rats.

Intestinal anastomosis healing is a complex physiological process in which many local and systemic factors play a role. One of the significant cytokines in this process is TNF-α. Infliximab is a chimeric monoclonal antibody which binds to TNF-α with high affinity.

Effects of electromagnetic field (1.8/0.9 GHz) exposure on growth plate in growing rats.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of whole-body electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure on growth plates in growing male rats. Two groups of rats were exposed to either 900 MHz EMF or 1800 MHz EMF 2 h/day for 90 days. Sham control rats were kept under similar conditions without exposure to the EMF.

Effect of deslorelin on testicular function, serum dihydrotestosterone and oestradiol concentrations during and after suppression of sexual activity in tom cats.

Objectives The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of a 4.7 mg deslorelin implant in tom cats. Methods Nine mature male cats were included in the deslorelin group and five cats in the control group.

Monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) specific for leukocyte differentiation molecules (LDMs) were developed during the past few decades to expand reagents for research in ruminants, pigs, and horses. The specificity of some of the mAb-defined molecules was determined through participation in international workshops. Other molecules identified with mAbs during this time, and more recently with mAbs developed after the workshops, have remained partially characterized.

Immunohistochemical detection of autophagy-related microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3 (LC3) in the cerebellums of dogs naturally infected with canine distemper virus.

We investigated the expression of microtubule-associated protein 1 light chain 3 (LC3) protein in the cerebellums of dogs infected with canine distemper virus (CDV) using immunohistochemistry to detect autophagy. The cerebellums of 20 dogs infected with CDV were used. Specimens showing demyelination of white matter were considered to have an acute infection, whereas specimens showing signs of severe perivascular cuffing and demyelination of white matter were classified as having chronic CDV.

Atrioventricular Dissociation and Congestive Heart Failure in a Ring-Necked Pheasant ( Phasianus colchicus ).

The aim of this clinical report was to describe a case of complete atrioventricular dissociation in a 9-month-old, male ring-necked pheasant ( Phasianus colchicus ). The case was incidentally determined during the evaluation of electrocardiograms recorded from pheasants. There were no observed clinical symptoms in the bird before or after the electrocardiogram.

The effect of dexketoprofen on ischemia reperfusion injury.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the effects of dexketoprofen on experimental ischemia/reperfusion injury induced in rat testicles.

Methods: Twenty-four male Wistar albino-type rats were randomly separated into three groups. To develop testicular torsion, the right testicle was rotated 720° clockwise.

Sarcomatoid renal cell carcinoma with scant epithelial components in an Angora cat.

Case History: A 6-year-old, neutered, female Angora cat presented with a history of lethargy and anorexia for 2 months and a clinically palpable and gradually enlarging, solid mass in the abdominal cavity extending from the last costal arch to the pelvic cavity.

Clinical Findings: Examination of the cat revealed jaundice, dehydration and hypothermia. Haematological manifestations included lymphopenia and substantial decrease in haematocrit value.

Subacute oral toxicity of combinations of selected synthetic pyrethroids, piperonyl butoxide, and tetramethrin in rats.

In this study, 70 Wistar rats were randomly divided into seven equal groups (six experimental and one control), which consisted of animals belonging to both sexes. Different combinations of insecticides were administered daily to the experimental groups (group 1: cypermethrin + piperonyl butoxide (PBO); group 2: alphacypermethrin + PBO; group 3: deltamethrin + PBO; group 4: cypermethrin + PBO + tetramethrin; group 5: alphacypermethrin + PBO + tetramethrin; and group 6: deltamethrin + PBO + tetramethrin) for 28 days. During the study period, mortality and serious clinical findings were not observed in any animal.

Effects of tacrolimus and nifedipine, alone or in combination, on gingival tissues.

Background: The aim of this study is to compare gingival changes induced by short- and long-term tacrolimus and nifedipine administration, alone or in combination, and evaluate the expression levels of tumor suppressor phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) in drug-induced gingival overgrowth.

Methods: Eighty rats were equally divided into eight groups: 1) tacrolimus for 8 weeks; 2) nifedipine for 8 weeks; 3) tacrolimus and nifedipine for 8 weeks; 4) 8-week control; 5) tacrolimus for 24 weeks; 6) nifedipine for 24 weeks; 7) tacrolimus and nifedipine for 24 weeks; and 8) 24-week control. Histomorphometric analyses included measurements of epithelial thickness, connective tissue thickness, and height.

Immunohistochemical characterization of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors in canine normal testis and testicular tumours.

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) are ligand-activated transcription factors belonging to the nuclear hormone receptor superfamily. Recent studies have demonstrated that PPARs regulate lipid metabolism and are expressed in various cancers. The aim of the present study was to investigate the expression of PPAR-α, -β and -γ in normal canine testicular tissue and canine testicular tumours (CTTs).

Nesidioblastosis in a simmental calf.

A 2-day-old Simmental calf with arthrogryposis and astasia was subjected to necropsy examination. The calf was normoglycaemic and normoinsulinaemic. Microscopically, pancreatic tissue was hyperplastic with an irregular lobular arrangement of pancreatic islets.

Alpha basic crystallin expression in canine mammary tumors.

The aim of this study was to evaluate prognostic and/or diagnostic factors of canine mammary tumors by immunohistochemically analyzing the expression of alpha basic crystallin (αB-c). For this, formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded blocks of 51 naturally-occurring canine mammary tumors (11 benign and 40 malignant) were used. Tissue from eight normal canine mammary glands were served as a control.

Excessıve fluorıde ıntake alters the MMP-2, TIMP-1 and TGF-β levels of perıodontal soft tıssues: an experımental study ın rabbıts.

Objectives: This study evaluated the influence of fluoride on periodontal soft tissues by investigating any alterations in their MMP-2, TIMP-1 and TGF-β profiles secondary to excessive fluoride intake.

Material And Methods: Fluorosis was induced in 18 rabbits (test group) through consumption of fluoride added to drinking water, whereas 10 rabbits consumed regular tap water as daily supply (control group). Following fluorosis verification, animals were sacrificed and their 1st mandibular molar teeth were utilized in the assessments.

Screw fixation is superior to N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate in onlay grafting procedure: a histomorphologic study.

The aim of this study is the histopathological evaluation of the efficiency of N-2-butyl cyanoacrylate in the fixation of bone block grafts on mandible. Autogenous monocortical block grafts taken from tibial bone were fixed to the outer surface of the angle of the mandible with N-2-butyl cyanoacrylate on the right side and mini screws on the left side. Postoperatively in the first and third months, six rabbits were killed and tissue samples were obtained from the grafted area.

The expressions of HSP70 and αB-crystallin in myocarditis associated with foot-and-mouth disease virus in lambs.

This study describes the expression of heat shock protein70 (HSP70) and alpha-basic-crystallin (α-BC) and their association with apoptosis and some related adaptor proteins in the pathogenesis of foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV)-induced myocarditis in lambs. HSP70 was generally overexpressed in the myocardial tissues and inflammatory cells of FMDV-induced myocarditis with differential accumulation and localization in same hearts when compared to non-foot-and-mouth disease control hearts. α-BC immunolabeling showed coarse aggregations in the Z line of the cardiomyocytes in FMDV-infected hearts in contrast to control hearts.

Immunohistochemical analysis of reconstructed sheep mandibles: transport distraction osteogenesis versus autogenous bone grafting.

Purpose: Although many studies have been conducted that related to growth factor expression in mandibular distraction osteogenesis, to our knowledge, no study comparing the immunohistochemical outcomes of autologous bone grafting (ABG) and transport distraction osteogenesis has been conducted up to now. The aim of this study was to histologically and immunohistochemically analyze newly formed bone in the resected mandible reconstructed by transport distraction osteogenesis and iliac crest bone grafting in a sheep model.

Materials And Methods: Mandibular discontinuity defects created in the jaws of sheep were reconstructed by distraction osteogenesis (n = 7) and bone grafting (n = 7) and allowed to heal for 3 mos.

Aromatase expression in the cerebellum of the dog infected with canine distemper virus.
