Acetyl-CoA Synthetase Short Chain Family Member-1 (ACSS1) catalyzes the ligation of acetate and coenzyme A to generate acetyl-CoA in the mitochondria to produce ATP through the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle. We recently generated an ACSS1-acetylation (Ac) mimic knock-in mouse, where lysine 635 was mutated to glutamine (K635Q), which structurally and biochemically mimics an acetylated lysine. ACSS1 enzymatic activity is regulated, at least in part, through the acetylation of lysine 635 in mice (lysine 642 in humans), a Sirtuin 3 deacetylation target.

Objective: To explore the influencing factors of vaginal delivery after cesarean section, establish a predictive model, and identify potential factors for perinatal complications.

Materials And Methods: This is a retrospective analysis of women who attempted a trial of labor after cesarean section(TOLAC) at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University and subsequently gave birth in this hospital between 31 December 31 2017 and December 2023. Associations between maternal characteristics and success of TOLAC were assessed using univariate and logistic regression.

To investigate the crack propagation mechanisms in low-permeability coal seams induced by liquid CO2 phase change blasting under different blasting pressures, this research presents an experimental study conducted on a small liquid CO2 phase change blasting test system. The failure mode, crack morphology, and distribution characteristics of the coal rock model specimens under different liquid CO2 phase change blasting pressure were revealed, analyzing the crack shapes and expansion process. The results show that with increasing blasting pressure, both the number and complexity of cracks significantly increase under liquid CO2 phase change blasting, evolving from simple linear cracks to more complex multi-directional networks.

Article Synopsis
  • Aflatoxin B (AFB) is a harmful contaminant in crops that can negatively impact animal health, and Bacillus CotA laccase has shown promise in breaking down mycotoxins in lab tests, but its effectiveness in live animals needed further evaluation.
  • A study involving ducks revealed that Bacillus CotA laccase improved growth rates, gut health, and reduced inflammation caused by AFB, while also positively affecting amino acid metabolism and reducing liver injury.
  • Results indicate that Bacillus CotA laccase not only degraded AFB in the digestive tract but also decreased its absorption and presence in the liver and feces, suggesting it could be a viable solution for mitigating AFB toxicosis in ducks.*

Deciphering the intricate cell-state transitions orchestrating immune adaptation over time stands as a cornerstone for advancing biological understanding. However, the lack of empirical in vivo genomic technologies capable of capturing cellular dynamics has posed a significant challenge. In response to this gap, a groundbreaking study introduces Zman-seq, a single-cell technology that records transcriptomic dynamics across time by incorporating time stamps into circulating immune cells, enabling their tracking in tissues for extended periods.

Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is one of the most toxic mycotoxins. The use of probiotics is an effective approach to reduce aflatoxins content in foods. To find efficient bacterial species that can eliminate or detoxify AFB1, a bacterial strain S51 capable of degrading AFB1 was isolated from chicken intestine and soil samples by using a culture medium containing coumarin as the sole carbon source.

Although the cell membrane and cytoskeleton play essential roles in cellular morphogenesis, the interaction between the membrane and cytoskeleton is poorly understood. Cotton fibers are extremely elongated single cells, which makes them an ideal model for studying cell development. Here, we used the sphingolipid biosynthesis inhibitor, fumonisin B1 (FB1), and found that it effectively suppressed the myeloblastosis (MYB) transcription factor GhMYB86, thereby negatively affecting fiber elongation.

Introduction: This study aimed to investigated the effects of 10-hydroxy-2-decenoic acid (10-HDA) on the growth performance, intestinal barrier, inflammatory response, oxidative stress, and gut microbiota of chickens challenged with lipopolysaccharide (LPS).

Methods: A total of 240 one-day-old chickens were randomly assigned to five treatment groups: (1) control group (basal diet + saline); (2) LPS group (basal diet + LPS); (3) Chlortetracycline (CTC) group (basal diet containing 75 mg/kg CTC + LPS); (4) 0.1% 10-HDA group (basal diet containing 1 g/kg 10-HDA + LPS); and (5) 0.

Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) for rectal cancer (RC) shows promising clinical response. The modulation of the tumor microenvironment (TME) by NAC and its association with therapeutic response remain unclear. Here, we use single-cell RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptome sequencing to examine the cell dynamics in 29 patients with RC, who are sampled pairwise before and after treatment.

Schizophrenia, a complex neuropsychiatric disorder, frequently experiences a high rate of misdiagnosis due to subjective symptom assessment. Consequently, there is an urgent need for innovative and objective diagnostic tools. In this study, we used cutting-edge extracellular vesicles' (EVs) proteome profiling and XGBoost-based machine learning to develop new markers and personalized discrimination scores for schizophrenia diagnosis and prediction of treatment response.

Antibiotic-resistant bacteria pose a major global public health concern, owing to the lack of effective antibacterial drugs. Consequently, the discovery and development of innovative antibacterial drug classes with unique mechanisms of action are urgently needed. In this study, we designed, synthesised, and tested a series of novel pleuromutilin derivatives with piperazine linker substituted by amino acids moieties to determine their antibacterial properties.

As a natural antiviral regulator, phospholipid scramblase 1 (PLSCR1) has been shown to inhibit influenza virus replication in infected cells through interacting with NP of influenza A virus (IAV). But its antiviral function as well as the underlying regulatory mechanism has not been examined in vivo. In the present work, we show that PLSCR1 expression is decreased in H1N1 SIV-infected mice, and Plscr1 mice are more susceptible to H1N1 SIV infection.

Quench of magnetic resonance imaging system refers to the process that the superconducting condition inside the magnet is destroyed due to some reason. The large current stored in the coil is quickly converted into heat at the place where the resistance is formed, and a large amount of liquid helium in the magnet is evaporated. If it happens, it will cause huge loss to the user.
