Article Synopsis
  • A new multi-classifier system combines lncRNA, deep learning from whole slide images, and clinicopathological data to improve predictions of recurrence in localized papillary renal cell carcinoma (pRCC) after surgery.
  • *The system shows significantly better predictive accuracy for recurrence-free survival (RFS) than using any single classifier alone, with C-index values ranging from 0.831 to 0.858.
  • *This method helps identify high-risk patients more accurately, allowing for individualized treatment strategies alongside the current cancer staging system.

Histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis (HNL) is a benign, self-limiting disease that is rare clinically. The coexistence of HNL and tumor is rarer. We report a male patient who was preoperatively diagnosed with papillary thyroid carcinoma with cervical lymph nodes metastasis, and the postoperative pathological examination showed histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis combined with metastatic papillary thyroid carcinoma in the same single lymph node.

Article Synopsis
  • A novel assay was developed to predict recurrence in patients with localised renal cell carcinoma after surgery, integrating clinical, genomic, and histopathological data.
  • A deep learning-based histopathological score was combined with scores from genetic and clinical factors to create a more accurate multimodal recurrence score.
  • This new score showed significantly better predictive accuracy for recurrence-free intervals (RFI) compared to traditional methods, especially identifying high-risk patients, demonstrating its potential for improving patient management post-surgery.

To clarify the role of long intergenic nonprotein-coding RNA 1232 (LINC01232) in the progression of gastric cancer and the potential mechanism, we analyzed the expression of LINC01232 in TCGA database using the GEPIA online tool, and the LINC01232 level in gastric cancer cell lines was detected by quantitative real time-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) as well. Cell proliferation assay, colony formation assay, transwell assay and tumor formation experiment in nude mice were conducted to observe the biological behavior changes of gastric cancer cells through the influence of LINC01232 knockdown. LncATLAS database and subcellular isolation assay were used for subcellular distribution of LINC01232 in gastric cancer cells.

We report the case of a patient diagnosed with severe pneumonia due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). A percutaneous lung biopsy was performed under ultrasound guidance. Morphological and ultrastructural characteristics of the patient's lungs are presented, along with details of some important changes in inflammatory biological markers, in order to help better understand the disease and provide clues to allow members of the multidisciplinary team to save more people.

Yolk sac tumors (YSTs) are the second most common germ cell malignancy of the ovaries, generally presenting in children and young women. However, they rarely occur in the fallopian tubes of postmenopausal patients. The current rare case is composed of yolk sac tumor differentiation within high-grade serous carcinoma (HGSC) arising in the fallopian tube of a 68-year-old woman.

Objective: To explore the pathologic features of gastric chondroid gastrointestinal stromal tumors.

Methods: The clinicopathologic data of one case of gastric chondroid gastrointestinal stromal tumor were collected and the features were analyzed by literature review.

Results: The male patient was 64 years old and had suffered from upper abdominal fullness discomfort without obvious cause for 5 years.

The objective of the present study was to describe the clinicopathological features of a patient with nasal NK/T cell lymphoma that was similar in morphology to mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma (MALToma). The clinicopathological data of a patient diagnosed with nasal NK/T cell lymphoma mimicking MALToma was collected, and the clinicopathological characteristics were discussed. The female patient was 43 years old and had suffered from persistent congestion for ten days.

Background: Identification of high-risk localised renal cell carcinoma is key for the selection of patients for adjuvant treatment who are at truly higher risk of reccurrence. We developed a classifier based on single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) to improve the predictive accuracy for renal cell carcinoma recurrence and investigated whether intratumour heterogeneity affected the precision of the classifier.

Methods: In this retrospective analysis and multicentre validation study, we used paraffin-embedded specimens from the training set of 227 patients from Sun Yat-sen University (Guangzhou, Guangdong, China) with localised clear cell renal cell carcinoma to examine 44 potential recurrence-associated SNPs, which were identified by exploratory bioinformatics analyses of a genome-wide association study from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) Kidney Renal Clear Cell Carcinoma (KIRC) dataset (n=114, 906 600 SNPs).

Background: Drug resistance is common in cancer chemotherapy. This study investigates the role of Glycerol kinase 5 (GK5) in mediating gefitinib resistance in NSCLC.

Methods: The exosomal mRNA of GK5 was detected using a tethered cationic lipoplex nanoparticle (TCLN) biochip.

Purpose: To investigate the differential gene expression pattern between invasive multifocal/multicentric (MMBC) and unifocal breast cancer (UFBC) with cDNA array and to discover the potential outlier genes associated with the incidence of MMBC and also to provide a guidance for clinical treatment and prognosis prediction.

Methods: This retrospective study analyzed the gene expression pattern alteration in breast cancer. We collected 156 MMBC (136 cases with 2 foci, 20 cases with 3 foci) and 130 UFBC samples from patients hospitalized in Yuhuangding Hospital, Yantai, from January 2005 to December 2015.

Background/aim: There are still many questions that surround multifocal or multicentric breast carcinoma (MMBC). The aim of this study was to analyze the clinicopathological characteristics of MMBC and provide feasible suggestions for therapy.

Patients And Methods: A total of 156 cases of MMBC in 3,597 invasive ductal breast carcinomas were collected and reviewed.

Aim: Through analysis and summarization of clinicopathological features, immunohistochemical expression, pathological diagnostic criteria, prognostic and other factors in patients suffering from bladder neuroendocrine carcinoma (BNEC), a better understanding of BNEC could be achieved to provide solid evidence for clinicopathology and prognosis.

Materials And Methods: The clinicopathological data of 39 cases of BNEC with up to 5-year follow-up data (median follow-up=650 days) were analyzed retrospectively based on immunohistochemical staining. Survival analyses were carried out using the Kaplan-Meier method and tested with the log-rank method.

Primary carcinoid tumors are uncommon neoplasms in the kidney. The current study presents a case of primary carcinoid tumor of the kidney in a 49-year-old female who suffered from painless gross hematuria for half a month. Left hydronephrosis, a horseshoe kidney and a space-occupying lesion of the left ureter were found by abdominal computed tomography scans and ultrasonic testing.

Unlabelled: We observed an unusual case of Lipofibroadenoma (LFA) in the anterior mediastinum with a 21-year-old man, who was detected with a mass on a chest X-ray scan for one month. Thymothymectomy was then performed and the mass was excised completely, in which the tumor was histologically composed of epithelial cells, lymphocytes, mature adipose and fibrous tissue. Within the tumor, the fat cells was distributed singly or multifocally under the ground of fibro tissue with hyaline degeneration, and the epithelial cells were arranged as crack structure with lymphocytes infiltrated sparsely.
