Erdheim-Chester disease (ECD) is a rare, multisystemic, non-Langerhans cell histiocytic neoplasm predominantly affecting middle-aged males in their fifth to seventh decades of life. It often presents with nonspecific symptoms, leading to a delay in its diagnosis. We report a case of an 85-year-old male with multisystemic manifestations, including retroperitoneal, skeletal, vascular, cardiac, orbital, and central nervous system (CNS) involvement.

Objectives: To identify the instruments used to evaluate functional capacity in COVID-19 patients hospitalized in COVID-19 wards and ICUs and the associations between use of assessment instruments and physiotherapist characteristics METHODS: The survey was conducted using REDCap web-based application, following the Consensus-Based Checklist for Reporting of Survey Studies guidelines. A non-probability recruitment approach aimed at physiotherapists who had treated hospitalized patients with COVID-19 in Brazil.
Chronic use of typical antipsychotics can lead to varying motor effects depending on the timing of analysis. Acute treatment typically induces hypokinesia, resembling parkinsonism, while repeated use can result in tardive dyskinesia, a hyperkinetic syndrome marked by involuntary orofacial movements, such as vacuous chewing movements in mice. Tardive dyskinesia is particularly concerning due to its potential irreversibility and associated motor discomfort.

Its etiology can vary, ranging from renal tumors to vascular diseases, renal cysts, or infections. Here, we report the case of a 54-year-old male who presented to the emergency department with a two-day history of abdominal pain and fever.

Although there are concerns about reduced antibody responses to SARS-CoV-2 vaccines, detailed data on B-cell-specific responses in SLE remain scarce. Understanding the responsiveness to novel vaccine-antigens, and boosters number, is important to avoid unnecessary prolonged isolation of immunocompromised individuals.

This neurodevelopmental disorder typically impacts cognitive, behavioral, social communication, and motor skills domains. However, effective treatments for the wide range of symptoms associated with the disorder are limited and may trigger undesirable effects.

PPI disruption can be mimicked experimentally with psychostimulants such as amphetamine and attenuated/reversed by antipsychotics. Cannabidiol (CBD), the main non-psychotomimetic component of the Cannabis sativa plant, produces antipsychotic-like effects in clinical and preclinical studies.

Background: Although vortioxetine demonstrates superior efficacy relative to placebo, there is still a lack of robust evidence to determine whether it offers advantages over commonly prescribed antidepressants for treating major depressive disorder (MDD). Thus, we aimed to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis comparing vortioxetine vs reuptake inhibitors in adults with MDD, analyzing two classes separately: (i) vortioxetine vs SSRIs and (ii) vortioxetine vs SNRIs.
Methods: We searched MEDLINE, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases for randomized controlled trials comparing vortioxetine with SSRIs or SNRIs in adults with a primary diagnosis of MDD following standardized diagnostic criteria.

Background: Stress has become a common public health concern, contributing to the rising prevalence of psychiatric disorders. Understanding the impact of stress considering critical variables, such as age, sex, and individual differences, is of the utmost importance for developing effective intervention strategies.
Methods: Stress effects (daily footshocks for 10 days) during adolescence (postnatal day [PND] 31-40) and adulthood (PND 65-74) were investigated on behavioral outcomes and parvalbumin (PV)-expressing GABAergic interneurons and their associated perineuronal nets (PNNs) in the prefrontal cortex of male and female mice 5 weeks post stress.
Objectives: In this study, we aimed to systematically review the literature of the prevalence of systemic antibacterial use during pregnancy and to perform a descriptive analysis focused on methodological characteristics.
Materials And Methods: This study was registered in PROSPERO under protocol number CRD42022376634. Medline, Embase, Scientific Electronic Library Online, Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, and Web of Science databases were searched (published studies until November 3rd, 2022).
Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), such as pembrolizumab, have transformed immuno-oncology by demonstrating efficacy against various cancers, including small-cell lung carcinoma and HER2-positive gastric cancer. Despite their benefits, ICIs can provoke immune-related adverse events, with endocrinopathies being rare but carrying significant complications. We report a case of pembrolizumab-induced diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) in an 87-year-old woman with advanced gastric carcinoma and no prior diabetes history.

Deficits in the prefrontal and hippocampal excitatory/inhibitory balance due to a functional loss of GABAergic interneurons are proposed to underlie these symptoms. Increasing the postsynaptic effects of GABA with compounds that selectively modulate GABAergic receptors could be a potential target for treating ASD symptoms.

Stress during this period causes functional loss of PVIs in the ventral hippocampus (vHip), which has been associated with dopamine system overdrive. This vulnerability persists until the appearance of perineuronal nets (PNNs) around PVIs.

Purpose: Currently, inguinal hernias are highly prevalent in the Brazilian population, accounting for 75% of all abdominal wall hernias. The recommended treatment to correct them is inguinal herniorrhaphy, which can be performed through open surgery, mainly using the Lichtenstein technique, or laparoscopically, primarily through Transabdominal Preperitoneal Repair (TAPP) or Total Extraperitoneal Repair (TEP) approaches. Like any surgery, these procedures have post-operative complications, with pain being the most common and debilitating.

In contrast to Δ-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD does not produce the typical psychotomimetic effects of the plant. In addition, CBD has attracted increased interest due to its potential therapeutic effects in various psychiatric disorders, including schizophrenia.

Despite advances in basic and clinical research in our understanding of these disorders, currently available pharmacological options are associated with limited clinical benefits and side effects that frequently lead to treatment discontinuation. Importantly, a significant number of patients do not achieve remission and live with lifelong residual symptoms that limit daily functioning.

Unlike the plant's primary cannabinoid, delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD does not produce psychotomimetic effects nor induce dependence. Initially considered an inactive cannabinoid, interest in its pharmacological properties and therapeutic potential has grown exponentially over the last 20 years.

Nevertheless, the lack of suitable animal models that mimic a possible ketamine-resistant phenotype challenges the understanding of resistance to drug treatment. In this study, we showed that PI3Kγ knock-out (KO) mice do not respond to classical doses of ketamine and classical antidepressants.
