In hospitalized children, height should be measured. When world health organization (WHO) height measurement gold standards is impossible, the ideal height estimation technique is still unclear. We conducted an international prospective study in eight different pediatric intensive care units to assess the accuracy, precision, practicability, safety, and inter-rater reliability of 12 different height estimation techniques, based on body segment measurement extrapolation, or other calculations using previous or projected heights.

In amniotes, embryonic tissues originate from multipotent epiblast cells, arranged in a mosaic of presumptive territories. How these domains fated to specific lineages become segregated during body formation remains poorly understood. Using single cell RNA sequencing analysis and lineage tracing in the chicken embryo, we identify epiblast cells contributing descendants to the neural tube, somites and lateral plate after completion of gastrulation.

The use of secondary healthcare data contributes to improving the healthcare system and, for the patient in particular, aims to provide better care thanks to the lessons learned from compiling the information. This article, using the example of an artificial intelligence (AI) project called Hydro, highlights the importance and challenges of cross-fertilizing different data sources, to help find solutions that enrich the healthcare offering.

Background: The implementation of cost-effective surveillance systems is essential for tracking the emerging risk of tick-borne diseases. In Canada, where Lyme disease is a growing public health concern, a national sentinel surveillance network was designed to follow the epidemiological portrait of this tick-borne disease across the country. The surveillance network consists of sentinel regions, with active drag sampling carried out annually in all regions to assess the density of Ixodes spp.

Background: Lyme disease (LD) emerged in southern Québec at the start of the century, with many municipalities now endemic. A coordinated active surveillance programme has been in place in the province of Québec since 2014, including a limited number of sentinel field sites resampled each year and a larger set of accessory field sites that change yearly according to the LD surveillance signal. We aimed to evaluate whether a sentinel approach to active surveillance was more representative of LD risk to human populations, compared to risk-based surveillance.

Background: Although bariatric surgery (BS) is recommended for patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and moderate to severe obesity, only approximately 2% of patients undergo surgery.

Objective: To compare the knowledge and perception of BS with that of other treatments for diabetes among patients with diabetes.

Setting: French social media platforms.

Background: Individuals with depression symptoms have a harder time quitting smoking. High negative affect and low positive affect are core depression symptoms and arise following cigarette abstinence. Investigating associations of biological markers with negative and positive affect may provide valuable information about factors relevant to smoking cessation in individuals with elevated depression symptoms.

Though anxiety sensitivity (AS)-fear of anxiety-related experiences-is primarily tied to anxiety vulnerability, AS has also been prospectively associated with general negative affect and depression. Furthermore, depression has been longitudinally associated with different forms of substance use, and some AS subfactors (e.g.

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common lymphoma in adults. We evaluated the immunohistochemical (IHC) expression of p63 and p53 in DLBCL and their significance on overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). We conducted a retrospective cohort study of 177 patients with DLBCL who presented to Mount Sinai Medical Center of Florida (Miami Beach, Florida) between 2010 and 2020.

Stage of cancer at the time of the diagnosis is a key factor for the prognosis and the determination of appropriate treatment. Several cancer staging systems are used worldwide. The most useful staging system is the tumor, node and metastasis (TNM) staging system develop by the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) in collaboration with the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) referred to as the AJCC TNM staging system.

Purpose: We present guidelines for the management of infants under 12 months of age with severe bronchiolitis with the aim of creating a series of pragmatic recommendations for a patient subgroup that is poorly individualized in national and international guidelines.

Methods: Twenty-five French-speaking experts, all members of the Groupe Francophone de Réanimation et Urgence Pédiatriques (French-speaking group of paediatric intensive and emergency care; GFRUP) (Algeria, Belgium, Canada, France, Switzerland), collaborated from 2021 to 2022 through teleconferences and face-to-face meetings. The guidelines cover five areas: (1) criteria for admission to a pediatric critical care unit, (2) environment and monitoring, (3) feeding and hydration, (4) ventilatory support and (5) adjuvant therapies.

Objective: In 2021, a first outbreak of anaplasmosis occurred in animals and humans in southern Québec, with 64% of confirmed human cases located in Bromont municipality. Ixodes scapularis ticks and Peromyscus mouse ear biopsies collected in Bromont from 2019 to 2021 were analyzed for Anaplasma phagocytophilum (Ap) with the objective of determining whether an early environmental signal could have been detected before the outbreak.

Methods: Samples were collected for a concurrent study aiming to reduce Lyme disease risk.

Objectives: With vector-borne diseases emerging across the globe, precipitated by climate change and other anthropogenic changes, it is critical for public health authorities to have well-designed surveillance strategies in place. Sentinel surveillance has been proposed as a cost-effective approach to surveillance in this context. However, spatial design of sentinel surveillance system has important impacts on surveillance outcomes, and careful selection of sentinel unit locations is therefore an essential component of planning.

Prior theory and research suggest that both Cluster-B personality pathology and trait impulsivity are indirectly associated with alcohol use through positive alcohol expectancies. Yet, no prior study has investigated whether features of each of the Cluster-B personality disorders (PDs) (i.e.

Percutaneous thermal ablation (PTA), resection, and liver transplantation are the standard curative options for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Liver transplantation yields the best long-term outcomes but is limited by graft shortage. Thus, patients with ≤3-cm HCC are primarily treated by PTA even though recurrence is frequent and may occur outside transplant criteria.

Lyme disease is an emerging public health threat in Ontario, Canada due to ongoing range expansion of the tick vector, Ixodes scapularis. Tick density is an important predictor of human Lyme disease risk and is typically measured using active tick surveillance via drag sampling, which is time and resource-intensive. New cost-effective tools are needed to augment current surveillance activities.

Lyme disease (LD) is a tick-borne disease which has been emerging in temperate areas in North America, Europe, and Asia. In Quebec, Canada, the number of human LD cases is increasing rapidly and thus surveillance of LD risk is a public health priority. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the ability of active sentinel surveillance to track spatiotemporal trends in LD risk.

The development of the vertebrate body axis relies on the activity of different populations of axial progenitors, including neuromesodermal progenitors. Currently, the term 'Neuromesodermal progenitors' is associated with various definitions. Here, we use distinct terminologies to highlight advances in our understanding of this cell type at both the single-cell and population levels.

Article Synopsis
  • Lyme disease is increasingly becoming a public health issue in Québec, mainly due to environmental and human factors that support the ticks responsible for transmission.
  • Researchers aimed to track the speed and direction of Lyme disease's spread in Québec and identify high-risk areas.
  • Findings revealed that Lyme disease is moving north at 18 to 32 km/year, with significant risk clusters located in south-western Québec, aiding health authorities in creating targeted interventions.
