Unexpected diagnosis: large hemangioma in the interatrial septum.

Background: Cardiac hemangiomas are very uncommon benign primary tumors. They are usually located preferentially in the right atrium and their location in the interatrial septum is extremely rare.

Case Presentation: We report the case of a 41-year-old patient who was admitted due to a stroke.

Right ventricular failure: Current strategies and future development.

Right heart failure can be defined as a clinical syndrome consisting of signs and symptoms of heart failure resulting from right ventricular dysfunction. Function is normally altered due to three mechanisms: (1) pressure overload (2) volume overload, or (3) a decrease in contractility due to ischaemia, cardiomyopathy or arrythmias. Diagnosis is based upon a combination of clinical assessment plus echocardiographic, laboratory and haemodynamic parameters, and clinical risk assessment.

Coronary-subclavian steal syndrome: a case report of a rare entity that can become a deadly threat.

Background: In patients who underwent coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), the coronary-subclavian steal syndrome (CSSS) is characterized by a subclavian artery stenosis proximal to the origin of the internal mammary artery resulting in functional graft failure.

Case Summary: A 62-year-old gentleman underwent CABG following a non-ST elevation myocardial infarction and an angiogram showing left main stem and three-vessel disease. Forty-eight hours later he developed cardiogenic shock that improved with inotropic support and intra-aortic balloon pump insertion.

Pulmonary artery sarcoma with extensive leiomyosarcoma differentiation and heterologous osteosarcomatous elements.

Pulmonary artery sarcomas are exceptionally unusual. Their clinic, diagnosis and treatment play a very important role in the ultimate outcome and long-term survival. We present the case of a 70-year-old gentleman diagnosed with a leiomyosarcoma of the pulmonary artery with osteosarcoma differentiation that underwent surgical resection and subsequent chemotherapy, with good recovery at 9 months follow-up.

A randomized prospective multicenter trial for stroke prevention by prophylactic surgical closure of the left atrial appendage in patients undergoing bioprosthetic aortic valve surgery--LAA-CLOSURE trial protocol.

Patients undergoing surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) are at high risk for atrial fibrillation (AF) and stroke after surgery. There is an unmet clinical need to improve stroke prevention in this patient population. The LAA-CLOSURE trial aims to assess the efficacy and safety of prophylactic surgical closure of the left atrial appendage for stroke and cardiovascular death prevention in patients undergoing bioprosthetic SAVR.

Perceval Less Invasive Aortic Replacement Register: multicentric Spanish experience with the Perceval S bioprosthesis in moderate-high-risk aortic surgery.

Objectives: The development of new percutaneous and surgical techniques has reduced the risk associated with aortic valve replacement procedures. We present the results of a Spanish register after initiating a programme for sutureless prostheses in moderate-high-risk patients.

Methods: This prospective multicentre study was carried out from November 2013 to November 2016.
