Exposure to hyperoxia is an important factor in the development of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in preterm newborns. MicroRNAs (miRs) have been implicated in the pathogenesis of BPD and provide a potential therapeutic target. This study was conducted utilizing a postnatal animal model of experimental hyperoxia-induced murine BPD to investigate the expression and function of miR-195 as well as its molecular signaling targets within developing mouse lung tissue.

Physiological and Molecular Responses of 'Dusa' Avocado Rootstock to Water Stress: Insights for Drought Adaptation.

Avocado consumption is increasing year by year, and its cultivation has spread to many countries with low water availability, which threatens the sustainability and profitability of avocado orchards. However, to date, there is not much information on the behavior of commercial avocado rootstocks against drought. The aim of this research was to evaluate the physiological and molecular responses of 'Dusa' avocado rootstock to different levels of water stress.

Plasmid-encoded toxin (Pet) and protein involved in colonization (Pic), are serine protease autotransporters of Enterobacteriaceae (SPATEs) secreted by enteroaggregative Escherichia coli (EAEC), which display the GDSGSG sequence or the serine motif. Our research was directed to localize functional sites in both proteins using the phage display method. From a 12mer linear and a 7mer cysteine-constrained (C7C) libraries displayed on the M13 phage pIII protein we selected different mimotopes using IgG purified from sera of children naturally infected with EAEC producing Pet and Pic proteins, and anti-Pet and anti-Pic IgG purified from rabbits immunized with each one of these proteins.

Unlabelled: We describe the clinical presentation, biochemical features, diagnostic criteria, clinical course and differential diagnosis in three cases of feminizing adreno-cortical carcinoma (FACC) with a review of the literature.

Patients: From 1970 throughout December 2003 among a series of 801 adrenalectomies, three had been performed for FACC.

Results: Age at presentation was 74, 63 and 23 years.

The initial experience of the Hospital General Universitario de la Vall d'Hebron is presented with the description of the two first unipulmonary transplants. The first was a 20 year-old woman with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis in whom a left unipulmonary transplant was carried out and who, at present is at home following the 23rd postoperative month.
