Degradable chiral mesoporous silica nanoparticles (DCMSN) are synthesized for selective loading and controlled release of S-naproxen (S-NPX). Chiral silane coupling agent (APTES-L) and degradable silane coupling agent (APTES-CN) are synthesized, respectively, which are used for the synthesis of DCMSN. APTES-L endows the DCMSN with chirality, while APTES-CN endows the DCMSN with degradability.

Investigating how multiple invasive fish species with similar ecological traits respond to different environmental conditions is crucial to understanding their successful invasion and coexistence. Here, we used stomach content analysis and stable isotope analysis to analyse the effects of water level fluctuation on the trophic niche plasticity of three dominant co-occurring invasive tilapia species (Coptodon zillii, Sarotherodon galilaeus, and Oreochromis niloticus) in the Shanmei Reservoir, southern China. We found that the tilapia species exhibited an iliophagous habit with dietary variations between the high-water (HW) and low-water (LW) level periods.

Background: Postoperative pain is a significant yet inadequately managed complication following surgery, and auriculotherapy to alleviate acute postoperative pain (APP) and reduce the use of opioids remains controversial.

Methods: We searched the MEDLINE, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, CINAHL Complete, and ClinicalTrials.gov from inception to January 23, 2024 for all randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of auriculotherapy in the treatment of APP.

Article Synopsis
  • Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) causes respiratory illness primarily in infants and the elderly, with limited preventive measures available, prompting interest in using adeno-associated virus (AAV) for vaccine development.
  • The study tested a recombinant AAV5 (rAAV5) vaccine targeting the pre-fusion protein of RSV, administering it intramuscularly and intranasally in mice to evaluate its immunogenicity.
  • Results showed that the rAAV5-RSV-Fm vaccine produced strong antibody responses against RSV strains A and B for 120 days, with intranasal delivery also generating protective antibodies, indicating rAAV5's promise in RSV vaccine development.

Growing evidence suggests that heart failure (HF) is associated with an increased risk of depressive disorders and anxiety. However, the existing studies were observational and may have confounded and not reflected true causal relationships. This study collected genetic instruments about HF, depression, and anxiety from publicly available genetic summary data.

Electrocatalytic CO reduction serves as an effective strategy to tackle energy crises and mitigate greenhouse gas effects. The development of efficient and cost-effective electrocatalysts has been a research hotspot in the field. In this study, we designed four Co-doped single-atom catalysts (Co-N@C) using carbon nanotubes as carriers, these catalysts included tri- and dicoordinated N-doped carbon nanoribbons, as well as tri- and dicoordinated N-doped graphene, respectively denoted as H3(H2)-Co/CNT and 3(2)-Co/CNT.

Objective: Thumbtack Needling (TN) has been employed in the treatment of functional constipation (FC), although the existing evidence supporting its effectiveness is limited. This study is to evaluate the efficacy of TN in ameliorating FC.

Method: A total of 482 eligible patients were recruited and randomly assigned to the TN group or the Mosapride Citrate (MC) group.

Article Synopsis
  • Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a non-surgical treatment option for some malignant solid tumors, but it may leave residual cancer cells, especially in larger tumors or those near large blood vessels due to the "heat-sink" effect.
  • Sublethal radiofrequency hyperthermia (RFH) can enhance the effectiveness of RFA when combined with other therapies (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, gene therapy) by improving tumor response and reducing viable tumor margins.
  • Mechanisms of RFH's enhancement include tissue fracturing, increased cell membrane permeability, boosted metabolism, disruption of repair pathways in damaged cells, and activation of heat shock proteins, which collectively contribute to lower rates of residual and recurrent tumors.

Tungsten oxide ( ) has been widely used in hydrogen sensing due to its stable chemical properties and high oxygen vacancy diffusion coefficient. However, the response of pure to hydrogen is slow, and doping is an effective way to improve the hydrogen sensing performance of materials. In this paper, / / / porous film was prepared by the sol-gel method using tungsten powder, and as precursors, polyethylene glycol (PEG) as the pore-forming agent, and tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) as the source material.

Aims: Pleural effusion is not an infrequent complication in patients undergoing continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis. However, there is not adequate data to evaluate pleural effusion and prognosis in clinical practice. In this study, we validated this potential association by a multicenter cohort.

The roles of platelets/megakaryocytes (MKs), the key components in the blood system, in the tumor microenvironment and antitumor immunity are unclear. In patients with colorectal cancer, the number of platelets was significantly increased in patients with metastasis, and Erbin expression was highly expressed in platelets from patients with metastases. Moreover, Erbin knockout in platelets/MKs suppressed lung metastasis in mice and promoted aggregations of platelets.

The aim was to assess epidemiological characteristics of the most recent consumption patterns of meat, vegetable, and fruit among representative urban and rural residents aged 60+ years in regional China. In this cross-sectional survey conducted in mid-2018, participants aged 60+ years were randomly chosen from urban and rural communities in Nanjing municipality of China. Meat, vegetable, and fruit intake were assessed with a validated food frequency questionnaire.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study explored an injectable hydrogel (ROD) containing lysed OK-432 (lyOK-432) and doxorubicin (DOX) to treat residual liver cancer following incomplete radiofrequency ablation (iRFA) of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
  • - Results showed that lyOK-432 enhanced dendritic cell activation and improved immune response more effectively than OK-432 alone, leading to increased tumor necrosis and longer survival rates in treatment groups.
  • - The ROD hydrogel successfully stimulated antitumor immunity by activating the cGAS/STING/IFN-I signaling pathway, indicating its potential as an effective therapy for residual liver cancer post-iRFA.

Background: The prognosis of diabetic peritoneal dialysis patients is poor. HbA serves as a crucial indicator for monitoring blood glucose control in patients with diabetes. Nevertheless, the relationship between visit-to-visit HbA variability and prognosis in peritoneal dialysis with diabetes remains unclear.

Astaxanthin is a high-value red pigment and antioxidant widely used in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food industries. However, the hydrophobicity of astaxanthin causes its low bioavailability. Glycosylation can substantially increase the water solubility of astaxanthin, thus enhancing its bioavailability, photostability, and biological activities.

Orthobunyaviruses have been reported to cause severe diseases in humans or animals, posing a potential threat to human health and socio-economy. Ebinur lake virus (EBIV) is a newly classified orthobunyavirus, which can induce the histopathogenic change and even the high mortality of infected BALB/c mice. Therefore, it is needed to further study the viral replication and pathogenesis, and develop the therapies to cope with its potential infection to human or animals.

Background: Migraine is a primary neurological disorder associated with complex brain activity. Recently, mounting evidence has suggested that migraine is underpinned by aberrant dynamic brain activity characterized by linear and non-linear changes across a variety of time scales. However, the abnormal dynamic brain activity at different time scales is still unknown in patients with migraine without aura (MWoA).
