Aims: To evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of nonpenetrating filtering surgery in the treatment of patients with open-angle glaucoma.
Methods: Pertinent studies were selected by extensive searches. A total of 17 randomized controlled trials were included in the present meta-analysis.
Background: A 2005 meta-analysis suggests that lowering intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with ocular hypertension (OHT) or open-angle glaucoma (OAG) is beneficial in reducing the risk for visual field loss in the long term.
Objective: The aim of this meta-analysis was to compare the efficacy and toler-ability of travoprost and latanoprost in patients with OAG or OHT.
Methods: Pertinent studies published from 1996 to 2008 were identified using systematic searches of major literature databases, including the Cochrane Library, MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Chinese Biomedicine Database.
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of latanoprost, compared with the combination of dorzolamide and timolol, in the treatment of patients with elevated intraocular pressure (IOP).
Methods: Pertinent randomized, controlled trials were identified through systematic searches of the Cochrane Library, PubMed, EMBASE, Chinese Biomedicine Database, and internet searches of meeting abstracts and the manufacturers' databases. The main efficacy measures were the IOP reduction (IOPR), including diurnal mean IOPR, and 10:00 IOPR.
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of nonpenetrating glaucoma surgery (NPGS) augmented with mitomycin C (MMC) compared with trabeculectomy (TE) plus MMC in the treatment of patients with open-angle glaucoma.
Design: Systematic review and meta-analysis.
Participants: Eight clinical trials, including 4 cohort and 4 randomized, enrolled 459 eyes.
Background: Hypertension is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, and data regarding the efficacy and tolerability of telmisartan compared with losartan on blood pressure (BP) control in patients with hypertension.
Methods: Pertinent studies were selected through extensive searches of PubMed (1966 to 29 December 2007), Embase (1980 to 29 December 2007), and the Cochrane library (29 December 2007). Randomized clinical trials comparing telmisartan with losartan in patients with hypertension were selected using predefined criteria.
Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of different intraocular lens (IOL) materials and optic edge designs in preventing posterior capsular opacification (PCO).
Design: Systematic review and meta-analysis.
Methods: Pertinent studies were selected through an electronic search of the Cochrane Library, MEDLINE, and Embase.
