To compare the effects of different concentrations of topical human amniotic fluid (HAF) in a mouse model of dry eye, forty C57BL/6 mice were divided into 4 treatment groups: 20 % HAF, 50 % HAF, 100 % HAF, and isotonic salt solution (control). Dry eye was induced by an injection of botulinum toxin B into the lacrimal gland. Tear production, ocular surface fluorescein staining, and blink rate were evaluated in each mouse at 5 time points during a 4-week period.

Amniotic fluid bathes the fetus during intrauterine life and is in permanent contact with the fetal ocular surface in this important period of development. It contains a series of growth factors that may have multiple effects on the wound healing process. These factors are thought to accelerate the recovery of corneal sensitivity and nerve regeneration after keratorefractive procedures, and also may control scar formation and balance the ocular surface after topical application.

The argon (blue-green) laser is currently used for vaporization of sutures during ophthalmic surgery. However, previous studies have reported more effective laser suture lysis and a lower rate of complications using the krypton (red) laser. Red wavelengths are selectively absorbed by the nylon sutures, but are minimally absorbed by adjacent tissue, and not absorbed by hemoglobin, unlike the argon laser wavelengths.

Purpose Of Review: To report the recently published literature on ocular surface changes after refractive surgery, as well as the outcomes of treatment modalities on postrefractive surgery dry eye.

Recent Findings: Cyclosporine, the first US Food and Drug Administration approved agent to treat the underlying pathological mechanism of chronic dry eye, has demonstrated promising results in dry eye patients. Further, there may be an additive effect of topical cyclosporine and punctal occlusion.

Purpose: To study the antioxidant status of human tears, stimulated by onion fumes and the possible influence of the life habits thereon were measured.
