Article Synopsis
  • Subjective cognitive decline (SCD) involves cognitive complaints in cognitively unimpaired individuals, with sleep disturbances potentially linked to these complaints.
  • The study included participants over 65 with cognitive complaints, excluding those with significant psychiatric or medical issues, and used various assessments to track their conditions over 12 months.
  • Analysis of 47 participants revealed that while sleep quality (measured by PSQI) correlated with anxiety levels, there were no significant links between sleep complaints and cognitive measures or demographics.

Article Synopsis
  • Mild Behavioral Impairment (MBI) is being assessed in Brazilian individuals with early cognitive decline (SCD and MCI) to understand neuropsychiatric symptoms better.
  • The study utilized the MBI-Checklist (MBI-C) among 47 participants to explore correlations with other psychological metrics like the Neuropsychiatric Inventory and Geriatric Depression Scale.
  • Results indicated significant correlations between informants' observations and other assessments, while participant and informant MBI-C scores had different correlations, suggesting varying perceptions of neuropsychiatric symptoms.

Sudden cardiac death (SCD) risk stratification and primary prevention implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) recommendations are based on differing strategies for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). This study aimed to evaluate the impact of the 2023 European Society of Cardiology (ESC) guidelines on the 2014 ESC and the 2024 American Heart Association (AHA)/American College of Cardiology (ACC) systems in terms of primary prevention ICD recommendations for HCM. A cohort of 200 patients with HCM in Brazil was assessed for SCD risk profile according to current guidelines.

Context: The thermic effect of food (TEF) may be a therapeutic target for the prevention and treatment of obesity.

Objective: The impact of different biological and nutritional characteristics on TEF in humans was analyzed.

Data Sources: The MEDLINE/PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Web of Science, and Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature databases were searched until November 2023 without language restrictions.

This study reports additional information's of geometric, electronic, thermodynamic, and vibrational properties of a Cu(II) complex with 1,10-phenanthroline and L-glutamine ligands. The experimental spectroscopic analyses were corroborated by density functional theory (DFT). Furthermore, these properties were evaluated using an implicit solvation method with water and methanol solvents, including vacuum condition.

This is the case report of a woman who started to write and read from right to left after anterior cerebral artery stroke, affecting the left supplementary motor area. No cases were found in the literature with exactly the same characteristics. She has been able to read and write faster after rehabilitation approach at Sarah Network of Rehabilitation Hospitals, in the Belo Horizonte city unit, Brazil, despite the maintenance of the inversion.

Background: The present study aimed to investigate the type and timing of ultra-processed foods (UPF) consumption and its association with dietary intake (DI) and physical activity (PA) in women with obesity living in poverty.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was employed. Obesity was defined by at least two criteria (body mass index, waist circumference or % fat mass).

Background: Revascularization surgery is used to attempt to restore blood flow to the foot in patients with critical ischemia (CI) caused by peripheral arterial occlusive disease of the lower limbs (LL). Ultrasonography with Doppler (USD) SAH emerged in recent years as a highly valuable method for planning this surgical intervention.

Objectives: To evaluate the relationship between the resistance index (RI), measured with USD, and immediate hemodynamic success of LL revascularization surgery in patients with CI.

Conduction system pacing (CSP) has emerged as a promising alternative to biventricular pacing (BVP) in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and ventricular dyssynchrony, but its benefits are uncertain. In this study, we aimed to evaluate clinical outcomes of CSP vs BVP for cardiac resynchronization in patients with HFrEF. PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane databases were searched for randomized controlled trials comparing CSP to BVP for resynchronization therapy in patients with HFrEF.

Objectives: "Pocket formulas" are practical alternatives for calculating an individual's total energy expenditure (TEE). Typically, more sophisticated predictive equations are used, such as the new equations proposed in the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRI). Nevertheless, these new equations necessitate estimating physical activity levels (PALs).

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation between P-wave indexes, echocardiographic parameters, and CHA2DS2-VASc score in patients without atrial fibrillation and valvular disease.

Methods: This retrospective cross-sectional study included patients of a tertiary hospital with no history of atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, or valve disease and collected data from June 2021 to May 2022. The exclusion criteria were as follows: unavailable medical records, pacemaker carriers, absence of echocardiogram report, or uninterpretable ECG.

Background: The extent of cardiac damage associated with aortic stenosis has important prognostic implications after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). However, the role of tricuspid regurgitation (TR) in this clinical setting is still unclear.

Objectives: To explore the association between TR and mortality in patients undergoing TAVR and assess changes in TR severity post TAVR and its relationship with short and mid-term mortality.

Pathogen agents, such as bacteria and virus, can contaminate plastic surfaces, particularly those used in food packaging. This study proposed to prepare a polyelectrolyte film with antiviral and antibacterial activity based on sodium alginate (SA) and poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDADMAC), a cationic polymer with sanitizing properties. In addition, the physicochemical properties of the polyelectrolyte films were also evaluated.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Short Form Brief Pain Inventory (SF-BPI) for community-dwelling Brazilian older adults with chronic neuropathic, nociceptive and nociplastic pain.

Methods: Cross-sectional psychometric testing was conducted in a convenience sample, n=114 (66.5 ± 4.

The present study evaluates the proteome of early antral follicles from Ovis aries. Fifty follicles were collected from ovaries of adult ewes and extracted proteins were trypsin-digested, desalted and analyzed by LC-MS/MS. Genes were screened for potential modulation by miRNAs and protein data, subjected to functional enrichment analysis.

Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is classified according to the amplitude of fibrillatory waves (f) into fine waves (fAF) and coarse waves (cAF).

Objectives: To correlate the amplitude of f waves with clinical, laboratory, electrocardiographic, and echocardiographic variables that indicate a high risk of thromboembolism and to assess their impact on the success of electrical cardioversion (ECV).

Methods: Retrospective, observational study that included 57 patients with persistent non-valvular AF who underwent ECV.

Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) is a hematological disorder characterized by abnormal stem cell differentiation and a high risk of acute myeloid leukemia transformation. Treatment options for MDS are still limited, making the identification of molecular signatures for MDS progression a vital task. Thus, we evaluated the proteome of bone marrow plasma from patients (n = 28) diagnosed with MDS with ring sideroblasts (MDS-RS) and MDS with blasts in the bone marrow (MDS-EB) using label-free mass spectrometry.
