Migration of etonogestrel subcutaneous contraceptive implants: systematic review and recommendations for practice.

Introduction: Migration is a rare but serious complication of the etonogestrel contraceptive implant, and little is known about its extent.

Purpose: To document and characterise cases of etonogestrel contraceptive implant migration in the scientific literature.

Methods: A systematic review of Medline, Embase and Global Health databases was carried out between January 2000 and January 2023 to identify articles presenting implant migrations.

Biological invasions increase with the intensity of globalization, human activities, and climate change. Insects represent a high potential of invasive species due to their adaptability to new environment. We analysed here the potential of an Asian phytophagous bug, Corythauma ayyari (Heteroptera, Tingidae) to become widespread, recently recorded in Europe, and that depends on Jasminum spp.

Orthotropic organization of a cellulose nanocrystal suspension realized via the combined action of frontal ultrafiltration and ultrasound as revealed by in situ SAXS.

Hypothesis: Rodlike cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) exhibit significant potential as building blocks for creating uniform, sustainable materials. However, a critical hurdle lies in the need to enhance existing or devise novel processing that provides improved control over the alignment and arrangement of CNCs across a wide spatial range. Specifically, the challenge is to achieve orthotropic organization in a single-step processing, which entails creating non-uniform CNC orientations to generate spatial variations in anisotropy.

First and Second-Trimester Surgical Abortion Providers and Services in 2019: Results From the Canadian Abortion Provider Survey.

Objective: Our objective was to explore the workforce and clinical care of first and second-trimester surgical abortion (FTSA, STSA) providers following the publication of the updated Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC) surgical abortion guidelines.

Methods: We conducted a national, cross-sectional, online, self-administered survey of physicians who provided abortion care in 2019. This anonymized survey collected participant demographics, types of abortion services, and characteristics of FTSA and STSA clinical care.

Development and pilot testing of the 2019 Canadian Abortion Provider Survey.

Background: Substantial changes in abortion care regulations, available medications and national clinical practice guidelines have occurred since a 2012 national Canadian Abortion Provider Survey (CAPS). We developed and piloted the CAPS 2019 survey instrument to explore changes of the abortion provider workforce, their clinical care as well as experiences with stigma and harassment.

Methods: We undertook development and piloting in three phases: (1) development of the preliminary survey sections and questions based on the 2012 survey instrument, (2) content validation and feasibility of including certain content aspects via a modified Delphi Method with panels of clinical and research experts, and (3) pilot testing of the draft survey for face validity and clarity of language; assessing usability of the web-based Research Electronic Data Capture platform including the feasibility of complex skip pattern functionality.

Advancing Reproductive Health through Policy-Engaged Research in Abortion Care.

Mifepristone medication abortion was first approved in China and France more than 30 years ago and is now used in more than 60 countries worldwide. It is a highly safe and effective method that has the potential to increase population access to abortion in early pregnancy, closer to home. In both Canada and the United States, the initial regulations for distribution, prescribing, and dispensing of mifepristone were highly restricted.

Arboreal camera trap reveals the frequent occurrence of a frugivore-carnivore in neotropical nutmeg trees.

Arboreal and flying frugivorous animals represent primary dispersers in the Neotropics. Studies suggest a possible compensation for the loss of large species by smaller ones with expanding rampant anthropogenic pressures and declining populations of larger frugivores. However, studies on seed dispersal by frugivores vertebrates generally focus on the diurnal, terrestrial, canopy, and flying species, with the nocturnal canopy ones being less studied.

A Virtual Community of Practice to Support Physician Uptake of a Novel Abortion Practice: Mixed Methods Case Study.

Background: Virtual communities of practice (VCoPs) have been used to support innovation and quality in clinical care. The drug mifepristone was introduced in Canada in 2017 for medical abortion. We created a VCoP to support implementation of mifepristone abortion practice across Canada.

Catalogue of type specimens of Peiratinae (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Reduviidae) preserved in the Musum National dHistoire Naturelle, Paris.

An annotated catalogue is presented for the type specimens of the peiratine Reduviidae (Hemiptera: Heteroptera) preserved in the Musum National dHistoire Naturelle (MNHN), Paris, France. The Peiratinae collection in MNHN contains type specimens representing 58 nominal species and five varieties (including 48 species and one subspecies currently recognized as valid) of 16 genera. The great majority of the type specimens concerns taxa described by Andr Villiers and Ren Jeannel; there are also several type specimens representing species described by Johann Christian Fabricius, Gustave Fallou and, more recently, Jean-Michel Brenger.

Short-term effectiveness of nutrition therapy to treat type 2 diabetes in low-income and middle-income countries: systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials.

Objectives: This review examined the evidence arising from randomised controlled trials regarding the impact of nutrition therapy on glycaemic control in people living with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in low/middle-income countries (LMICs).

Design: Systematic review and meta-analysis using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) Approach.

Data Sources: MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science, OpenGrey and the International Clinical Trials Registry were searched (up to July 3 2020).

Objectives: Mifepristone became available in Canada in 2017. Updated national guidelines recommend its off-label use for second/third-trimester medical abortion (STMA/TTMA) by labour induction. The objective of this study was to explore STMA/TTMA provision in Canada and the role of mifepristone.

Species Diversity and Phylogenetic Relationships of Olive Lace Bugs (Hemiptera: Tingidae) Found in South Africa.

Olive lace bugs (Hemiptera: Tingidae) are small sap-sucking insects that feed on wild and cultivated . The diversity of olive lace bug species in South Africa, the most important olive producer on the continent, has been incompletely surveyed. Adult specimens were collected in the Western Cape province for morphological and DNA-based species identification, and sequencing of complete mitogenomes.

The perspective of Canadian health care professionals on abortion service during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic and pandemic response created novel challenges for abortion services. Canada was uniquely positioned to transition to telemedicine because internationally common restrictions on abortion medication were removed before the pandemic.

Objective: We sought to characterize the experiences of abortion health care professionals in Canada during the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact of the pandemic response on abortion services.

Pharmacist dispensing of the abortion pill in Canada: Diffusion of Innovation meets integrated knowledge translation.

Background: Since Canadian drug regulatory approval of mifepristone for medical abortion in 2015 and its market availability in January 2017, the role of pharmacists in abortion provision has changed rapidly. We sought to identify the factors that influenced the initiation and provision of medical abortion from the perspectives of Canadian pharmacists, bridging two frameworks - Diffusion of Innovation in Health Service Organizations and integrated knowledge translation.

Methods: We conducted one-on-one semi-structured interviews with pharmacists residing in Canada who intended to stock and dispense mifepristone within the first year of availability.

Objective: To provide guidance on culturally competent contraception counselling that is free of coercion and promotes shared decision-making and patient autonomy.

Target Population: Individuals of reproductive age who seek contraception or counselling for family planning.

Options: Contraception counselling is provided within a rights-based family planning framework, where the individual's beliefs, culture, preferences, and ability to use the chosen method are respected.

Two new species of Tingidae (Insecta: Heteroptera) from Papua New Guinea.

Two species of Tingidae (Heteroptera) sampled by fogging at Baiteta, Papua New Guinea, are described as new to science. Comments on their distribution and host-plants as well as an identification key to species of the genera concerned are provided.

New species of Tingidae (Insecta: Heteroptera) from Madagascar.

Surveys of Madagascar discovered five species new to science, described herein. A key to all species within the genera of these new species is provided, and the distribution of Malagasy Tingidae species is discussed.
