Towards a pituitary apoplexy classification based on clinical presentation and patient journey.

Purpose: The condition of pituitary apoplexia contains the clinical spectre from life-threatening emergency to asymptomatic self-limiting course, which partly determines diagnostic delay and management. Outcome evaluation of course and management of pituitary apoplexia is hampered by the diverse presentation of this condition and requires appraisal. This study aimed to describe the patient journey, clinical presentation, and management of various types of pituitary apoplexy in a new classification to facilitate future outcome evaluation and identify unmet needs in the care process.

Public perspectives on protective measures during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Netherlands, Germany and Italy: A survey study.

Background: The extent to which people implement government-issued protective measures is critical in preventing further spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. Our study aimed to describe the public belief in the effectiveness of protective measures, the reported implementation of these measures, and to identify communication channels used to acquire information on COVID-19 in European countries during the early stage of the pandemic.

Methods And Findings: An online survey available in multiple languages was disseminated starting on March 19th, 2020.

Introduction: The Emergency Management of Severe Burns (EMSB) referral criteria have been implemented for optimal triaging of burn patients. Admission to a burn centre is indicated for patients with severe burns or with specific characteristics like older age or comorbidities. Patients not meeting these criteria can also be treated in a hospital without burn centre.

The Effect of Differing Kidney Disease Treatment Modalities and Organ Donation and Transplantation Practices on Health Expenditure and Patient Outcomes (EDITH) aims to obtain information on long-term kidney transplant outcomes, long-term health outcomes of living kidney donors and detailed outcomes and costs related to the different treatment modalities of end-stage kidney disease. Nine partners from seven European Union countries will participate in this project.

Dissociation and recombination of D₂ on Cu(111): ab initio molecular dynamics calculations and improved analysis of desorption experiments.

Obtaining quantitative agreement between theory and experiment for dissociative adsorption of hydrogen on and associative desorption of hydrogen from Cu(111) remains challenging. Particularly troubling is the fact that theory gives values for the high energy limit to the dissociative adsorption probability that is as much as two times larger than experiment. In the present work we approach this discrepancy in three ways.

Diabetes-impaired wound healing is improved by matrix therapy with heparan sulfate glycosaminoglycan mimetic OTR4120 in rats.

Wound healing in diabetes is frequently impaired, and its treatment remains a challenge. We tested a therapeutic strategy of potentiating intrinsic tissue regeneration by restoring the wound cellular environment using a heparan sulfate glycosaminoglycan mimetic, OTR4120. The effect of OTR4120 on healing of diabetic ulcers was investigated.

Ab initio molecular dynamics study of water oxidation reaction pathways in mono-Ru catalysts.

Ab initio molecular dynamics simulations with an adaptive biasing potential are carried out to study the reaction path in mononuclear Ru catalysts for water oxidation of the type [(Ar)Ru(X)(bpy)](+) with different aromatic ligands (Ar). The critical step of the O-O bond formation in the catalytic cycle starting from the [(Ar)Ru(O)(bpy)](2+) intermediate is analyzed in detail. It is shown that an explicit inclusion of the solvent environment is essential for a realistic description of the reaction path.

Identification of potent and selective glucosylceramide synthase inhibitors from a library of N-alkylated iminosugars.

Glucosylceramide synthase (GCS) is an important target for clinical drug development for the treatment of lysosomal storage disorders and a promising target for combating type 2 diabetes. Iminosugars are useful leads for the development of GCS inhibitors; however, the effective iminosugar type GCS inhibitors reported have some unwanted cross-reactivity toward other glyco-processing enzymes. In particular, iminosugar type GCS inhibitors often also inhibit to some extent human acid glucosylceramidase (GBA1) and the nonlysosomal glucosylceramidase (GBA2), the two enzymes known to process glucosylceramide.

Morbidity and quality of life after continent ileostomy in the Netherlands.

Background: Continent ileostomy (CI) after proctocolectomy is an alternative technique compared to an ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (IPAA). The question arises as to whether this technique is valuable. The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of the continent ileostomy, by patient follow-up satisfaction and quality of life assessment.

Rupture of true aneurysms of the pancreaticoduodenal arcade: treatment with transcatheter arterial embolization.

We present 2 cases of ruptured true aneurysms of the pancreaticoduodenal arcade, underscoring the role of transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) as the initial treatment of choice in pancreaticoduodenal arcade aneurysm. Ruptured true aneurysms of the pancreaticoduodenal artery (PDA) are uncommon and few cases have been reported, whereas false aneurysms are seen more often. The first patient we describe is a 63-year-old woman with an aneurysm of the PDA initially treated by TAE.

Outcome of palliative embolization of bone metastases in differentiated thyroid carcinoma.

We investigated the effects of selective embolization in patients with symptomatic bone metastases of differentiated thyroid carcinoma. A total of 41 embolizations was performed in 16 patients. We studied the follow-up (range, 2 months to 8.
