Objectives: Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is a malignant tumor with high incidence and mortality rates worldwide. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between polymorphisms and ESCC risk in the Hainan Han population.

Methods: A total of 391 patients with ESCC and 452 healthy controls were enrolled to evaluate the effect of SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms) on ESCC susceptibility.

Purpose: Individual genetic background can play an essential role in determining the development of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). and play important roles in the pathogenesis of ESCC. This case-control study aimed to analyze the association between gene polymorphisms and ESCC susceptibility.

Background: Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most common malignancies, affected by several genetic loci in the clinical phenotype. This study aimed to determine the association between PTGER4 and PRKAA1 gene polymorphisms and the risk of GC.

Methods: A total of 509 GC patients and 507 age and sex-matched healthy controls were recruited to explore the association between PTGER4 and PRKAA1 genetic polymorphisms and GC susceptibility.

Article Synopsis
  • Tongue images and coating microbiome characteristics, which reflect overall body health in traditional Chinese medicine, were analyzed to diagnose gastric cancer (GC) in a substantial study involving over 1,200 participants.
  • Researchers utilized AI deep learning models to assess the diagnostic potential of these tongue features, with promising results showing high accuracy rates via area under the curve (AUC) metrics: 0.89 for tongue images and 0.94 to 0.95 for microbiome data.
  • The findings suggest that tongue images and microbial analysis can be effective diagnostic tools for GC, marking a significant advancement in non-invasive cancer diagnosis methods.

Background: was overexpressed in esophageal cancer (EC). The study aimed to identify genotypes of polymorphisms and their correlation with EC occurrence in a Chinese Han population.

Methods: Four single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in were randomly selected for genotyping through Agena MassARRAY system among 525 EC patients and 522 healthy controls.

Background: The present study aimed to identify a specific circular RNA (circRNA) for early diagnosis of gastric cancer (GC).

Methods: Totally 82 patients with GC, 30 with chronic nonatrophic gastritis and 30 with chronic atrophic gastritis were included in this study. Four of the 82 GC patients were selected for screening.

Objective: To evaluate the clinical effect of acupuncture on smoking cessation and withdrawal symptoms and to explore the influence factors of acupuncture on smoking cessation.

Methods: A total of 500 subjects with tobacco dependence were randomized into an acupuncture group, an auricular therapy group, an acupuncture plus auricular therapy group, a TENS group and a nicotine replacement therapy group (NRT group), 100 cases in each one. In the acupuncture group, acupuncture was applied at Baihui (GV 20), Lieque (LU 7), Hegu (LI 4) and Zusanli (ST 36).

We report the detection of a virus, tentatively identified as Seoul virus (SEOV), from a rat (Rattus norvegicus) collected in the city of Zhangmu, Tibet. SEOV RNA was detected in lung tissue by reverse transcription (RT)-PCR, followed by sequencing. Serum samples collected from Zhangmu were positive for SEOV-specific antibodies (indirect fluorescent antibody test that used SEO antigen).

It has been shown that 90% of tumors, including hematological malignant tumors and leukemia, have much higher levels of telomerase expression than normal cells. To investigate the effect of telomerase on leukemia cells, we transfected K562, a human erythroleukemia cell line with an antisense-hTERT (human telomerase reverse transcriptase) cDNA vector, and examined the biological and biophysical properties of the stably transfected cells (referred to as KAT). Un-transfected cells (K562) and cells transfected with the empty vector (referred to as KC) were used as controls.
