Background: Ang-II (angiotensin II) impairs the function of the antihypertensive enzyme ACE2 (angiotensin-converting enzyme 2) by promoting its internalization, ubiquitination, and degradation, thus contributing to hypertension. However, few ACE2 ubiquitination partners have been identified, and their role in hypertension remains unknown.

Methods: Proteomics and bioinformatic analyses were used to identify ACE2 ubiquitination partners in the brain, heart, and kidney of hypertensive C57BL6/J mice of both sexes.

  • Chromosome 22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22q11.2DS) is linked to high rates of anxiety and psychosis, influenced by the COMT gene, which regulates important neurotransmitters.
  • A study examined the relationship between COMT gene variations and anxiety as well as stress hormone responses in 30 affected children and adolescents.
  • The findings revealed that those with the active COMTval allele experienced higher anxiety levels, while there was no significant difference in cortisol levels, indicating that COMT variations affect sympathetic stress responses more than hypothalamic ones.

Article Synopsis
  • Angiotensin-II negatively affects ACE2, an important antihypertensive enzyme, by promoting its breakdown, contributing to high blood pressure.
  • Researchers identified UBR1 as a key protein that helps in the ubiquitination of ACE2, particularly heightened in hypertensive conditions and showing sex-specific regulation by testosterone.
  • Silencing UBR1 in mice led to increased ACE2 levels and a temporary drop in blood pressure, suggesting that targeting UBR1 and related proteins could be a new treatment strategy for hypertension.

Introduction: A better understanding of how to promote disease mitigation and prevention behaviors among vulnerable populations, such as cancer survivors, is needed. This study aimed to determine patterns of and factors associated with COVID-19-related preventive behaviors among cancer survivors and assess whether the COVID-19 preventive behaviors of cancer survivors differ from the general population.

Methods: In June 2020, an online survey of adults (N = 897) assessed predictors of COVID-19-related preventive behaviors, including socio-demographics, COVID-19 beliefs and perceptions (Health Belief Model [HBM] variables), and cancer statuses (cancer survivors currently in treatment, cancer survivors not currently in treatment, and individuals with no history of cancer).

Despite growing concerns that some digital algorithm-reliant fertility awareness-based methods of pregnancy prevention are marketed in an inaccurate, opaque, and potentially harmful manner online, there has been limited systematic examination of such marketing practices. This article therefore provides an empirical examination of how social media influencers have promoted the fertility tracking tool Daysy on Instagram. We investigate: (1) how the tool is framed in relation to pregnancy prevention using Health Belief Model (HBM) constructs, and (2) the promotional and disclosure practices adopted by influencers.

Liver cytochrome P450s (CYPs) of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) are involved in the metabolism of exogenous and endogenous chemicals. The ER is not uniform, but possesses ordered lipid microdomains containing higher levels of saturated fatty acids, sphingomyelin, and cholesterol and disordered regions containing higher levels of polyunsaturated fatty acid chains. The various forms of drug-metabolizing P450s partition to either the ordered or disordered lipid microdomains with different degrees of specificity.

Aims: Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) is a critical component of the compensatory renin-angiotensin system that is down-regulated during the development of hypertension, possibly via ubiquitination. However, little is known about the mechanisms involved in ACE2 ubiquitination in neurogenic hypertension. This study aimed at identifying ACE2 ubiquitination partners, establishing causal relationships and clinical relevance, and testing a gene therapy strategy to mitigate ACE2 ubiquitination in neurogenic hypertension.

The current study explores the risk communication conversations on Twitter and Instagram in the context of the 2019 HPV Awareness Day, through the theoretical lenses of the stigma associated with HPV, HPV-related cancer, and the HPV vaccine. Our findings reveal that: 1) self and enacted stigma are present in these social media conversations, via nonprofits and official ambassadors, and via regular people; 2) other categories related to stigma, which can be seen as reactions to stigma and appeals to better individuals and society (i.e.

Despite the suppression of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) replication by combined antiretroviral therapy (cART), 50-60% of HIV-infected patients suffer from HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND). Studies are uncovering the role of extracellular vesicles (EVs), especially exosomes, in the central nervous system (CNS) due to HIV infection. We investigated links among circulating plasma exosomal (crExo) proteins and neuropathogenesis in simian/human immunodeficiency virus (SHIV)-infected rhesus macaques (RM) and HIV-infected and cART treated patients (Patient-Exo).

People's risk perception of COVID-19 is an important predictor for adopting protective behavior. Although risk perceptions, and factors influencing these, may vary between countries, less attention has been paid to differences between adjacent regions from neighboring countries. In the midst of the first wave of the corona outbreak (March-April-May 2020), we measured risk perceptions as perceived threat (consisting of perceived severity and susceptibility) among university students (N = 668) in two connected countries: the Netherlands and Belgium.
