Tremelimumab and durvalumab as neoadjuvant or non-operative management strategy of patients with microsatellite instability-high resectable gastric or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma: the INFINITY study by GONO.

Background: In resectable gastric/gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma, microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H) confers improved survival, but limited benefit from chemotherapy. Immunotherapy may eliminate the need for chemotherapy or surgery.

Patients And Methods: INFINITY is a multicenter, multicohort phase II trial (NCT04817826) investigating in cohort 1 the activity and safety of tremelimumab + durvalumab (T300/D) as neoadjuvant treatment of mismatch repair deficient/MSI-H, resectable gastric/gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma.

Antibacterial mechanism of atmospheric cold plasma against Pseudomonas fluorescens and Pseudomonas putida and its preservation application on in-packaged red shrimp paste.

This study aimed to investigate the antibacterial mechanism of atmospheric cold plasma (ACP) against Pseudomonas fluorescens and Pseudomonas putida and its preservation effect on red shrimp paste. A reactive species (RS) assay showed that O, HO, and total nitric oxide were generated after ACP treatment, which possessed great potential for antibacterial and food preservation. In vitro antibacterial results showed that excess RS inhibited bacterial activity through cell membrane damage.

Emerging Treatment Options for Neuroendocrine Neoplasms of Unknown Primary Origin: Current Evidence and Future Perspectives.

Among neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs), a non-negligible proportion (9-22%) is represented by sufferers of NENs of unknown primary origin (UPO), a poor prognostic group with largely unmet clinical needs. In the absence of standard therapeutic algorithms, current guidelines suggest that the treatment of UPO-NENs should be based on tumor clinical-pathological characteristics, disease burden, and patient conditions. Chemotherapy represents the backbone for the treatment of high-grade poorly differentiated UPO-NENs, usually providing deep but short-lasting responses.

Colorectal cancer is the third-most-diagnosed cancer in males and in females, representing 8% of estimated new cases, and the third cause of cancer-related death in both sexes, accounting for 9% of cancer deaths in men and 8% in women. About 20% of patients diagnosed with CRC present metastatic disease. Although lung metachronous or synchronous metastatic spread without other involved sites has been reported in only a small proportion of patients, considering that this tumor is frequently diagnosed, the clinical approach to CRC pulmonary metastases represents a major issue for thoracic surgeons and CRC oncologists.

Levels of Essential and Trace Elements in Mozzarella Available on the Slovak Market with the Estimation of Consumer Exposure.

The aim of this study was to determinate the content of some elements in a specific dairy product, mozzarella, in a particular area of western Slovakia and to evaluate the estimation of the risk to the consumers based on the contribution to the provisional tolerable weekly intake. The consumption of mozzarella can contribute to the intake of important elements in the diet, such as calcium and magnesium, along with others. The contents of some toxic and trace elements were low and have not exceeded the permitted limit.

Spatial and spectral characteristics in realizations of broadband terahertz spectroscopy on a subwavelength scale.

In this work, we take aim at the fundamental challenge for realizations of broadband terahertz (THz) spectroscopy on a subwavelength scale. We introduce apertured THz microjets in this effort to resolve the fundamental limits of spatial resolution and spectral bandwidth. The THz microjets are formed as intense foci at the rear of engineered (microcomposite) spheres and are coupled through subwavelength (circular) apertures.

Flavonoid as possible therapeutic targets against COVID-19: a scoping review of in silico studies.

Objectives: This scoping review aims to present flavonoid compounds' promising effects and possible mechanisms of action on potential therapeutic targets in the SARS-CoV-2 infection process.

Methods: A search of electronic databases such as PubMed and Scopus was carried out to evaluate the performance of substances from the flavonoid class at different stages of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Results: The search strategy yielded 382 articles after the exclusion of duplicates.

Introduction: Erdheim-Chester Disease (ECD) is a rare form of histiocytosis, characterized by xanthogranulomatous infiltration of multiple organs by lipid-laden histiocytes. It is considered a myeloid inflammatory clonal disorder that mainly affects men with a mean age of 55 years.

Methods: We present the case of a 65-year-old man who consulted our Endocrinology Unit because of polyuria and polydipsia of 4 months of evolution, diagnosing central diabetes insipidus associated with pituitary infiltration.

Vocal features obtained through automated methods in verbal fluency tasks can aid the identification of mixed episodes in bipolar disorder.

There is a lack of consensus on the diagnostic thresholds that could improve the detection accuracy of bipolar mixed episodes in clinical settings. Some studies have shown that voice features could be reliable biomarkers of manic and depressive episodes compared to euthymic states, but none thus far have investigated whether they could aid the distinction between mixed and non-mixed acute bipolar episodes. Here we investigated whether vocal features acquired via verbal fluency tasks could accurately classify mixed states in bipolar disorder using machine learning methods.

Edible Insects and Sustainable Development Goals.

The insect sector can become an important component of sustainable circular agriculture by closing nutrient and energy cycles, fostering food security, and minimising climate change and biodiversity loss, thereby contributing to SDGs. The high levels of the interaction of the insect sector with the SDGs is clearly illustrated inside the review, analysing all of the SDGs that can have direct and indirect effects on insects. Mapping the interactions between the SDGs goals and insect sector offers a starting point, from which it could be possible to define practical next steps for better insect policy.

A hydrogel containing exocellular (1 → 6)-β-D-glucan (lasiodiplodan, LAS) was developed and its wound healing potential was evaluated. β-Glucans have attracted much interest by the cosmetic industry sector because of their bioactive and functional properties and in promoting skin health. In the present work an β-glucan was studied as a healing biomaterial that has not hitherto been reported in the scientific literature.

Psychiatric disorders represent a critical challenge to our society, given their high global prevalence, complex symptomatology, elusive etiology and the variable effectiveness of pharmacological therapies. Recently, there has been a shift in investigating and redefining these diseases by integrating behavioral observations and multilevel neurobiological measures. Accordingly, endophenotype-oriented studies are needed to develop new therapeutic strategies, with the idea of targeting shared symptoms instead of one defined disease.
