Article Synopsis
  • PKMAS, a new movement analysis software, estimates center of mass (COMe) displacement to aid in gait analysis for clinical and sports settings.
  • A study with 15 participants compared PKMAS’s COMe estimates to a more established VICON motion tracking system, revealing a significant mean bias in COMe displacement and mixed accuracy for velocity.
  • The findings suggest that while PKMAS shows some agreement in measuring displacement and velocity in certain directions, its results should be approached cautiously, especially for individuals with abnormal gait patterns.

During building renovation or demolition, asbestos fibers can be released which can contaminate the environment, leading to potential occupational health and public health concerns. Strict asbestos abatement procedures and regulations are in place to mitigate this risk, which involve sealing the worksite and depressurizing it relative to the outdoor environment (i.e.

Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) provides embedded and accessible (financially and technically speaking) motion analysis for sports or clinical applications (rehabilitation, therapy…). Despite being advertised for it ease of use, the very nature of IMU sensor makes it prone to errors which are usually corrected through calibration processes thus adding extra complexity for the users. The main goal of this study is to estimate the effect of sensor positioning on the thigh for a simple assessment of squat motion range of motion (ROM) as could be done in a pragmatic clinical approach (i.

Musculoskeletal disorders in the workplace are a growing problem in Europe. The measurement of these disorders in a working environment presents multiple limitations concerning equipment and measurement reliability. The aim of this study was to evaluate the use of inertial measurement units against a reference system for their use in the workplace.

Purpose: Image-guided surgery (IGS) is an integral part of modern neuro-oncology surgery. Navigated ultrasound provides the surgeon with reconstructed views of ultrasound data, but no commercial system presently permits its integration with other essential non-imaging-based intraoperative monitoring modalities such as intraoperative neuromonitoring. Such a system would be particularly useful in skull base neurosurgery.

In retail stores, workers are constantly exposed to new manufactured goods. The issue of the exposure of retail workers to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) should clearly be considered. Therefore, this study provides data regarding VOC concentrations in ten French retail stores.

Poor indoor air quality (IAQ) has been linked to airway disease and early deaths. The ESQUISSE study of IAQ conducted by the French Research and Safety Institute (INRS), characterized the concentrations of various volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in 10 retail stores and storage areas. The IAQ was generally better in sales areas than storage areas, which are more often unventilated and overloaded with new products.

Recently two emerging areas of research, attosecond and nanoscale physics, have started to come together. Attosecond physics deals with phenomena occurring when ultrashort laser pulses, with duration on the femto- and sub-femtosecond time scales, interact with atoms, molecules or solids. The laser-induced electron dynamics occurs natively on a timescale down to a few hundred or even tens of attoseconds (1 attosecond  =  1 as  =  10 s), which is comparable with the optical field.

We present characterizations of the attosecond pulse train produced in the high harmonic generation (HHG) from SF6 molecules irradiated by a strong pulsed laser field at 800 nm. At harmonic order 17, we observe a minimum in the amplitude of the emitted spectrum and a corresponding distortion in the phase. Our experimental results are compared to two models: a multicenter interference model focused on the effect of the structure of the SF6 molecule in HHG and a model focused on the interferences between multiple ionization channels in HHG.
