Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Myristica fragrans (Nutmeg) is a commonly used Chinese herbal medicine and edible spice. According to Pharmacopoeia of People's Republic of China, it has the effects of warming the middle and promoting qi, astringent intestines, and antidiarrheal. In the record of Compendium of Materia Medica, it is the myristica fragrans water extract (MFWE) that is utilized for therapeutic purposes of gastrointestinal disorders frequently.

Background: Ischemic stroke is a devastating disease that can result in permanent disability and death, and angiogenesis plays a critical role in the recovery and survival of patients and animal models of ischemic stroke. Panax notoginseng has been used as a key herb in the treatment of stroke diseases due to its effect in promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis. However, the role of Panax notoginseng saponins, in promoting angiogenesis is unclear.

In order to elucidate the mass fragmentation patterns and unveil more undescribed ophiobolin analogs, the mass fragmentation patterns of ophiobolins were analyzed based on UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS experiments. Different kinds of rearrangements (including McLafferty rearrangement) were the main cleavage patterns. Twenty-six (9-31) analogs were then tentatively characterized based on their mass analysis, and three undescribed ophiobolins (6-8) and a known analogue (5) were isolated in target.

Chetocochliodin M () containing a rare cage-ring and chetocochliodin N () featuring an unusual piperazine-2,3-dione ring system together with known analogues chetomin (), chetoseminudin C (), chetocochliodin I (), and oidioperazine E () were targeted for purification from the fungus using a UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS approach. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated using HR-ESI-MS, NMR, and ECD spectra. Compounds , , and exhibited strong cytotoxic activities against A549 and HeLa cancer cell lines.

Article Synopsis
  • Qilong capsule (QC), derived from the traditional Chinese Buyang Huanwu Decoction, aims to treat myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MIRI) by addressing Qi deficiency and blood stasis, although its effects on MIRI were previously unclear.
  • The study investigated QC's protective effects on platelet function in rats with MIRI by analyzing various blood properties and signaling pathways after ligation and reperfusion of the left anterior descending artery.
  • Results indicated that QC reduced blood viscosity and platelet activation, linking its protective effects to the inhibition of the CD36 pathway and suggesting that it alleviates hemorheological disorders caused by MIRI.

Learning and memory disorder is a cluster of symptoms caused by neuronal aging and other diseases of the central nervous system (CNS). Panax notoginseng saponins (PNS) are a series of saponins derived from the natural active ingredients of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) that have neuroprotective effects on the central nervous system. In this paper, we review the ameliorative effects and mechanisms of Panax notoginseng saponin-like components on learning and memory disorders to provide valuable references and insights for the development of new drugs for the treatment of learning and memory disorders.

Near-infrared two-region (NIR-II, 1000-1700 nm) fluorescence imaging has received widespread attention because of its high in vivo penetration depth, high imaging resolution, fast imaging speed and high efficiency, dynamic imaging, and high clinical translatability. This paper reviews the application of NIR-II imaging technology in disease diagnosis and treatment. The paper highlights the latest research progress of commonly used NIR-II imaging materials and the latest progress of multifunctional diagnostic platforms based on NIR-II imaging technology, and discusses the challenges and directions for the development and utilization of novel NIR-II imaging probes.

The study of tumor nanovaccines (NVs) has gained interest because they specifically recognize and eliminate tumor cells. However, the poor recognition and internalization by dendritic cells (DCs) and insufficient immunogenicity restricted the vaccine efficacy. Herein, we extracted two molecular-weight Astragalus polysaccharides (APS, 12.

In clinical practice, it is frequently observed that cardiac and psychological disorders frequently co-occur, leading to the emergence of a field known as cardiovascular disease with depression. Depression, in particular, poses a remarkable risk for the evolution of cardiovascular disease and intimately relates to adverse cardiovascular outcomes and mortality. Moreover, individuals who are depressed exhibit a higher susceptibility to developing cardiovascular disease compared to those in good health.

Ginsenoside Rg3 extracted from has therapeutic effects on diabetes and heart diseases. However, the underlying mechanism of ginsenoside Rg3 on diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) remains unclear. 24-week-old diabetic db/db mice were treated with ginsenoside Rg3 for 12 weeks, then body weight, serum lipids, adiponectin levels, as well as cardiac function and pathological morphology, were measured.

A series of novel NBP-TMP hybrids with neuroprotective effects were designed and synthesized for the treatment of ischemic stroke. The anti-cerebral ischemic activity of these compounds was screened by evaluating their neuroprotective effects on the oxygen glucose deprivation/reperfusion (OGD/R)-induced SH-SY5Y cell injury model in vitro. Nine compounds 7e, 7h-7i, 7k, 7m-7p and 7r showed better activities on cell viability and LDH levels compared to NBP at the concentration of 6.

The activity of polysaccharides is usually related to molecular weight. The molecular weight of polysaccharides is critical to their immunological effect in cancer therapy. Herein, the polysaccharides of different molecular weights were isolated using ultrafiltration membranes of 60- and 100-wDa molecular weight cut-off to determine the relationship between molecular weight and antitumor activities.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Right-side heart failure could accelerate mortality in patients of pulmonary hypertension, Jiedu Quyu Decoction (JDQYF) was used to manage pulmonary hypertension, but its right-sided heart protective effect associated with pulmonary artery hypertension is still unclear.

Aim Of The Study: Here, we evaluated the therapeutic effect of JDQYF on monocrotaline-induced right-sided heart failure associated with pulmonary arterial hypertension in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats and investigated the potential mechanism of action.

Materials And Methods: The main chemical components of JDQYF were detected and analyzed using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry.

Purpose: Myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury (MIRI) leads to myocardial tissue necrosis, which will increase the size of myocardial infarction. The study examined the protective effect and mechanism of the Guanxin Danshen formula (GXDSF) on MIRI in rats.

Methods: MIRI model was performed in rats; rat H9C2 cardiomyocytes were hypoxia-reoxygenated to establish a cell injury model.
