Background: The optimal width of resection margin (RM) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains controversial. This study aimed to investigate the value of imaging tumor capsule (ITC) and imaging tumor size (ITS) in guiding RM width for patients with HCC.

Methods: Patients who underwent hepatectomy for HCC in our center were retrospectively reviewed.

Background/aims: This study investigated signaling pathways via which extracellular histones induce the pro-inflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) release from the macrophage cell line RAW 264.7 and the anti-inflammatory efficacy of the antioxidant alpha-lipoic acid (ALA).

Methods: ELISA and western blotting analyses were conducted to detect the release of TNF-α from histone-stimulated RAW 264.

Background: Central lymph node metastasis(CLNM) is common in papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC). The aim of this study was to define the pathohistologic risk grading based on surgical outcomes.

Materials And Methods: Statistical analysis was performed to figure out the optimal cut-off values of size in preoperative ultrasound images for defining the risk of CLNM in papillary thyroid microcarcinoma.

Objective: To investigate the serum level of carboxy-terminal telopeptide of type I collagen (ICTP) and explore its correlation with MMP-2 and MMP-9 in patients with coronary artery disease (CHD).

Methods: A total of 103 CHD patients treated in our hospital between October, 2013 and May, 2014 were enrolled, including 39 with stable angina pectoris (SAP), 39 with unstable angina (UA), and 25 with acute myocardial infarction (AMI), with 38 non-CHD volunteers as the control group. The serum levels of ICTP, MMP-2, and MMP-9 were detected in all the subjects using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).

The intestinal mucosal epithelium is extremely susceptible to even brief periods of ischemia. Mucosal barrier damage, which is associated with ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury and consequently bacterial translocation, remains a major obstacle for clinically successful small bowel transplantation (SBT). Previous studies have demonstrated a protective effect of nitric oxide (NO) on other transplanted organs and NO mediated intestinal protection has also been reported in vitro.

Lymphocyte apoptosis is one reason for immunoparalysis seen in sepsis, although the triggers are unknown. We hypothesized that molecules in plasma, which are up-regulated during sepsis, may be responsible for this. In this study, peripheral lymphocyte apoptosis caused by extracellular histones was confirmed both in mouse and human primary lymphocytes, in which histones induced lymphocyte apoptosis dose-dependently and time-dependently.

Objective: To investigate the clinicopathological features of primary diffuse large B-cell lymphomas (DLBCLs) of the small intestine, CD10 expression, and their relationship to prognosis.

Methods: Twenty-four cases of small intestinal DLBCLs were studied clinically and pathologically. All cases were staged according to the Ann Arbor classification of lymphoma.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates how small intestinal mesenteric lymphoid tissues affect mixed lymphocyte reactions involving dendritic cells (DC) and peripheral blood monocytes (PBMC).
  • The results show that DCs respond more effectively than PBMCs to stimulation from mesenteric lymphoid tissue, leading to increased cell proliferation and higher expression of MHC molecules.
  • These findings indicate that small intestinal mesenteric lymphoid tissue has strong antigen-presenting capabilities, enhancing the immunological role of DCs.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines the challenges related to postoperative infections in abdominal cluster transplantation, specifically focusing on two cases.
  • A combination of five immunosuppressive drugs was used, leading to severe infections from Gram-negative bacteria and Candida species, along with complications from Cytomegalovirus (CMV).
  • The findings suggest that improving immunosuppressive strategies and enhancing early infection diagnosis and treatment are crucial for better managing post-transplant complications.

Objective: To study the clinical characteristics, treatment and prognosis of primary non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of small bowel.

Methods: The records of 34 patients with a confirmed diagnosis of primary non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of small bowel, registered between Jan. 1996 and Dec.
