Article Synopsis
  • Pityriasis rubra pilaris (PRP) is a rare skin disease that causes red and scaly patches, making it hard to treat.
  • Because PRP is uncommon and can sometimes get better on its own, studying how to treat it is tricky.
  • New medicines that target specific parts of the immune system, like IL-17 and IL-23, have shown some promise for treating PRP, but more research is needed to understand how well they work.

Non-melanoma skin cancer includes several types of cutaneous tumors, with basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) as the commonest. Among the available therapeutic options, surgical excision is the mainstay of treatment for both tumors. However, tumor features and patients' comorbidities may limit the use of these techniques, making the treatment challenging.

Introduction: Nowadays, despite the wide availability of biological drugs and apremilast for psoriasis management, there is always a need for new therapies to customize the therapeutic approach on the basis of the patient's clinical features and comorbidities, especially in order to achieve a prolonged therapeutic response. Thus, new treatment strategies are required to offer patients a personalized approach. In this scenario, major knowledge on psoriasis pathogenesis led to the development of deucravacitinib, an orally administered selective TYK2 inhibitor.

Article Synopsis
  • * Spesolimab, a newly approved monoclonal antibody targeting the IL36 receptor, represents a significant advancement in GPP treatment and has shown promising effectiveness and safety in managing GPP flare-ups.
  • * Despite encouraging results from clinical trials, there is a lack of long-term data on spesolimab’s effectiveness in preventing flare-ups, indicating the need for more research to assess its overall impact on GPP patients.

Purpose: Undeniably, in the last 2 decades, surgical approaches in the field of abdominal wall repair have notably improved. However, the best approach to provide a durable repair with low morbidity rate has yet to be determined. The purpose of this study is to outline our long-term results following the Transverse Abdominis Release (TAR) approach in patients with complex ventral hernias, focusing on the incidence of recurrence and overall patient satisfaction following surgery.

Landslides represent a severe geohazard in many countries. The availability of inventories depicting the spatial and temporal distribution of landslides is crucial for assessing landslide susceptibility and risk for territorial planning or investigating landscape evolution. Nevertheless, these inventories are usually affected by limitations due to their nonpublic availability and inhomogeneities in characterization and mapping.

Urticaria is a disease characterized by wheals and/or angioedema. Chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) occurs for longer than 6 weeks and appears independently of any identifiable exogenous stimulus. During the vaccination campaign for Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, several cutaneous adverse events have been described, among which urticaria lasting less than 6 weeks (acute urticaria, AU).

Background: A computer vision (CV) platform named EndoDigest was recently developed to facilitate the use of surgical videos. Specifically, EndoDigest automatically provides short video clips to effectively document the critical view of safety (CVS) in laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC). The aim of the present study is to validate EndoDigest on a multicentric dataset of LC videos.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to present our innovative robotic approach for the treatment of rectus diastasis with concurrent primary or incisional ventral hernias.

Methods: We performed 45 r-TARRD repairs for symptomatic rectus diastasis with concomitant associated ventral/incisional umbilical and/or epigastric hernias between January 2019 and January 2020. Data on patient demographics, type of hernia, operative time, complications, recurrence rate, and hospital stay were retrospectively analyzed.

Fragmentation of the daily sleep-wake rhythm with increased nighttime awakenings and more daytime naps is correlated with the risk of development of Alzheimer's disease (AD). To explore whether a causal relationship underlies this correlation, the present study tested the hypothesis that chronic fragmentation of the daily sleep-wake rhythm stimulates brain amyloid-beta (Aβ) levels and neuroinflammation in the 3xTg-AD mouse model of AD. Female 3xTg-AD mice were allowed to sleep undisturbed or were subjected to chronic sleep fragmentation consisting of four daily sessions of enforced wakefulness (one hour each) evenly distributed during the light phase, five days a week for four weeks.

Laboratory tests can be altered in cardiovascular diseases and the investigation of specific tests or biomarkers may provide additional information about myocardial damage. Traditional laboratory tests, such as cell blood count, serum biochemistry, and coagulation, can be useful in investigating patients, but are not specific. However, markers like Troponin and Natriuretic Peptides may possibly furnish further data on myocardium damage and can be used in both studying and monitoring cats with cardiac disease.

Abdominal rectus diastasis (RD) is characterized by thinning and widening of the linea alba, combined with laxity of the ventral abdominal musculature. This condition is associated with bulging of abdominal content, and it is mostly acquired during pregnancy or obesity. Symptoms include pain and discomfort in the abdomen, musculoskeletal and uro-gynecological problems in addition to negative body image and impaired quality of life.

Aims: The increased use of endoscopy as a minimally invasive therapeutic technique has created a great demand for endoscopic training. The Basic Endoscopic Skills Training (BEST) box provides a low-cost solution by adapting the Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) box for flexible endoscopic simulation. The BEST box consists of six endoscopic tasks with a 5-min time limit per task.

Background: As flexible endoscopy offers many advantages to patients, access to training should be aggressively encouraged. In 2014, the IRCAD-IHU-Strasbourg launched a year-long university diploma using advanced education methods to offer surgeons and gastroenterologists high-quality, personalized training in flexible endoscopy. This paper describes and critically reviews the first 5 years of the University Diploma in Surgical Endoscopy (UDSE).

Purpose: Laparoscopic transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) is a valid option for bilateral primary groin hernia and recurrent cases. Robotic approach for inguinal hernia is still debated. The aim of this study is to investigate the potential role of robotic-assisted single site-TAPP (RASS-TAPP) reporting our experience.

Purpose: Reinforced prosthetic crural repair is particularly indicated for giant hiatal hernias. The rationale is to reduce the recurrence rate in the long term. The aim of our study is to evaluate the outcomes of laparoscopic giant hiatal hernia repair using a biosynthetic mesh.

Most published sleep studies use three species: human, house mouse, or Norway rat. The degree to which data from these species captures variability in mammalian sleep remains unclear. To gain insight into mammalian sleep diversity, we examined sleep architecture in the spiny basal murid rodent Acomys cahirinus.

Continuous monitoring of landslides is of basic importance for understanding their behavior, defining their 3D geometry, and providing a basis for early warning purposes. While a number of instrumentations can be used for tracking surface displacement, only automatic or fixed multi-module inclinometers can be used for continuous monitoring of displacement at depth, providing valuable information for landslide geometry reconstruction. Since these instruments are very expensive, thus rarely used, a low-cost and multi-module fixed inclinometer for continuous landslide monitoring has been developed.

Dentoskeletal class II malocclusion due to a protruded upper dental arch is a major reason for an orthodontic treatment. In these cases, the correction of class II can be hindered by molar distalization, obtained with 'no-compliance therapy' that involves the use of appliances which minimize the need for such co-operation and attempt to maximize the predictability of results. The aim of this review was to outline the effectiveness of no-compliance fixed orthodontic devices in the molar distalization.
