A new adsorbent material based on graphene oxide (GO) functionalized with magnetic cobalt ferrite nanoparticles (γCoFeO) was synthesized via ultrasonication to remove the endocrine-disrupting-chemical bisphenol A (BPA) from aqueous solutions. The synthesized material (GO-γCoFeO) was characterized by TEM, SEM, DRX and FTIR analysis. Magnetization measures proved that the adsorbent had superparamagnetic characteristics that facilitated its separation from the aqueous solution.

In this work, untargeted metabolomics was used to unveil the impact of a () outer bark lipophilic extract on the metabolism of triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) and nontumor breast cells. Integrative analysis of culture medium, intracellular polar metabolites, and cellular lipids provided a comprehensive picture of cell metabolic adaptations, which enabled several hypotheses about the metabolic targets and pathways affected to be proposed. One of the most marked effects in MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells, upon 48 h incubation with the extract (15 μg/mL), was the enhancement of the NAD/NADH ratio, likely reflecting a shift to mitochondrial respiration, which appeared to be fueled by amino acids and fatty acids resulting from hydrolysis of neutral lipids (triglycerides and cholesteryl esters).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA functional vascular network is essential to the correct wound healing. In sprouting angiogenesis, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) regulates the formation of new capillaries from pre-existing vessels. This is a very complex process and mathematical formulation permits to study angiogenesis using less time-consuming, reproducible and cheaper methodologies.

The present study aimed to investigate the application of graphene oxide (GO) as adsorbent material for the removal of atrazine (ATZ). The material produced was characterized to investigate the characteristics and applied as an adsorbent. The material obtained after the synthesis process presented oxygenated functional groups, which contributed to the development of a good adsorbent material.

Aim: To describe the epidemiology of delirium in patients hospitalized for suspect COVID-19 pneumonia during the pandemic peak in an academic hospital of Northern Italy, identify its clinical correlations and evaluate the association with mortality.
Methods: The clinical records of 852 patients admitted for suspect COVID-19 pneumonia, defined as respiratory symptoms or fever or certain history of contact with COVID-19 patients, plus chest CT imaging compatible with alveolar-interstitial pneumonia, were retrospectively analyzed.
Background: Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is often the preferred conversion procedure for laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB) poor responders. However, there is controversy whether it is better to convert in one or two stages. This study aims to compare the outcomes of one and two-stage conversions of LAGB to RYGB.

Three schools ( = 125 participants) in Bogotá, Colombia, were randomly assigned into three groups: Modulo Activo Recreo Activo (MARA) + SMS (networks 1 and 2), MARA (networks 3 and 4), and control (no intervention: networks 5-7). We collected socio-economic, health-related, network structure, and intervention satisfaction variables in the baseline and after 10 weeks on July-November 2013.

Betulinic acid (BA) and ursolic acid (UA) modulate diverse pathways in carcinogenesis, offering increased changes of success in refractory cancers, such as triple negative breast cancer (TNBC). The present work aimed to assess the metabolic effects of BA and UA in MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells (TNBC model), as well as in MCF-10A non-cancer breast epithelial cells, with a view to unveiling the involvement of metabolic reprogramming in cellular responses to these TAs.

Angiogenesis, the development of new blood capillaries, is crucial for the wound healing process. This biological process allows the proper blood supply to the tissue, essential for cell proliferation and viability. Several biological factors modulate angiogenesis, however the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is the main one.

The primary aim of the present study was to verify the effect of PER as first add-on ASM on qEEG in child and adult patients affected by epilepsy.

Besides, post-planting maintenance is often neglected hampering seedling survival over time owing to alien grasses, which compete strongly with native plants for resources. To solve these issues, recently, an innovative technology called Nucleário has been developed in Brazil.

The goals of this study were to assess our rates of ECMO-related ALI and bleeding and to evaluate the efficacy of strategies to prevent them, such as distal perfusion cannula (DPC) and ultrasound-guided cannulation.
Methods: This is a single-center retrospective cohort study of adult patients placed on peripheral VA-ECMO at a tertiary medical center between 2014 and 2018.
The goal of this review is to perform a critical analysis of the instruments used to assess executive functions (EFs) in preschool and school-age children in Brazil. We identified 37 assessment measures through a systematic review. Some performance-based tests for assessing working memory and inhibition were identified.

In Parkinson's disease (PD), γ oscillatory activity in the basal ganglia-thalamo-cortical network is altered and the LTP-like plasticity elicited by intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS) is reduced in the primary motor cortex (M1). In this study, we tested whether transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) delivered at γ frequency promotes iTBS-induced LTP-like plasticity in M1 in PD patients.

Although still under-investigated, bradykinesia may be part of the phenotypic spectrum of ET. The aim was to evaluate bradykinesia features in ET through clinical examination and kinematic analysis of repetitive finger movements.

However, intracortical circuits producing such corticospinal high-frequency bursts are unknown. We here investigated whether neurons activated by single TMS pulses over M1 are resonant to high-frequency oscillations, using a combined transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS)-TMS approach.

The CPI concept stems from the fact that mobile devices, such as smartphones and wearables, are becoming an outstanding mean for zero-effort world-sensing and digitalization thanks to their pervasive diffusion and the increasing number of embedded sensors. Data collected by such devices provide unprecedented insights into the physical world that can be inferred through cognitive processes, thus originating a digital sixth sense.

How vocal organisms share acoustic space has primarily received attention in terrestrial environments. Comparable studies in marine environments, however, remain rare. By recording sounds on a coral reef in French Polynesia for 48 h and 24 h, this study provides first insights on how different sound types are distributed within the acoustic space and may create acoustic niches optimizing acoustic communication within a highly diverse community containing numerous soniferous fish species.
