Our objective was to understand whether cow cohabitation in homes with soil floors in rural Bangladesh contributed to the presence and diversity of potential pathogens and antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs) in the home. The roles of immuno-modulator treatment and echocardiographic screening in rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease control: research from Aotearoa, New Zealand.

This review summarises advances in research from Aotearoa, New Zealand (NZ) that have potential to reduce the inequitable distribution of acute rheumatic fever (ARF) and rheumatic heart disease (RHD). ARF incidence and RHD prevalence are unacceptably inequitable for Māori and Pacifica. Recent qualitative research has demonstrated mismatches between the lived experience of those with ARF/RHD and health service experience they encounter.

Associations Between Sociodemographic Factors and Adolescent Food Consumption During Independent Eating Occasions.

Associations were examined between sociodemographic characteristics of a US online survey sample of caregiver/adolescent dyads ( = 533) and food intake during independent eating occasions. Caregivers reported sociodemographic characteristics for dyads. Adolescents reported daily intake frequency of sugar-sweetened beverages, junk foods, sugary foods, fast food, and fruits and vegetables during independent eating occasions.

Managing Health Without Stable Housing: Dimensions of Treatment Burden and Patient Capacity for People With Chronic Health Conditions Experiencing Homelessness.

Although chronic health conditions and homelessness are prevalent problems in the United States and globally, little research has used the lens of burden of treatment theory to examine the experiences of people facing these challenges simultaneously. This study aimed to illuminate dimensions of treatment burden, which refers to the work of being a patient with chronic conditions, and patient capacity to manage this burden in a sample of people experiencing homelessness and chronic health problems in Buffalo, New York, United States. We completed in-depth interviews with men and women recruited from a homelessness services organization ( = 27) and applied core concepts from burden of treatment theory to our analysis to probe how participants navigated tasks related to treatment and self-care.

Objective: We investigated the clinical effect of treating HAE C1-esterase inhibitor (HAE-C1-INH) type 1 patients with recombinant human C1-INH (rhC1-INH) during their prodrome versus an active swelling episode and associated changes in blood transcriptomic genes and pathways before and after treatment.

Methods: A 2-center, unblinded, case-crossover study randomly assigned 5 HAE-C1-INH type 1 patients to prodrome or attack treatment groups; after a patient was treated for either 2 prodromes or 2 HAE attacks, they were crossed over to be treated for 2 HAE attacks or 2 prodromes.

Testicular tumors are the most common malignancy of young men and tumors affecting the testis are caused by somatic mutations in germ or germ-like cells. The PI3K pathway is constitutively activated in about one third of testicular cancers. To investigate the role of the PI3K pathway in transforming stem-like cells in the testis, we investigated tumors derived from mice with post-natal, constitutive activation of PI3K signaling and homozygous deletion of tumor suppressor Pten, targeted to nestin expressing cells.

Is an eye truly for an eye? Magnitude differences affect moral praise more than moral blame.

Does the amount of perceived moral responsibility correspond to the magnitude of the act to the same degree regardless of whether the act is moral or immoral? In four experiments (N = 1617; all preregistered), we found that-when evaluating two agents who performed similar acts but with different magnitude-observers judged greater differences in their moral responsibility when those acts were moral than when they were immoral. That is, the same difference in magnitude had greater influence on perceived moral responsibility for moral acts compared to immoral acts. Furthermore, we also found that the asymmetry effect impacted perceivers' judgment of the moral character of the agent (Studies 2 and 3).

Body-size evolution in gastropods across the Plio-Pleistocene extinction in the western Atlantic.

The Plio-Pleistocene turnover event in the western Atlantic following the closure of the Central American Seaway involved high rates of extinction for both gastropod and bivalve molluscs. This extinction was associated with declining nutrient conditions and has been presumed to be associated with a decrease in molluscan body size. Previous work which has been concordant with this expectation, however, has either focused on bivalves or not considered the effects of the recovery post extinction.

This article provides a blueprint for establishing an end-to-end data and analytics pipeline in a cloud-based environment. The pipeline presented here includes four major components, including data ingestion, transformation, visualization, and analytics, each supported by a suite of Amazon Web Services (AWS) tools.

Patient-informed exploration of the aftermath of a diagnostic problem or mistake based on results of a national survey.

Introduction: Despite the prevalence and devastating consequences of diagnostic breakdowns, there have been minimal efforts to systematically collect patient insight into diagnostic problems and mistakes. Collaborating with patient advocates to guide how patient-derived insights are interpreted and used is a critical, yet often overlooked, approach to identifying actionable solutions that speak to patients' priorities.

Objective: We collaborated with patient advocate co-authors to guide our understanding of findings from a mixed methods survey on diagnostic problems and mistakes, and report implications for patient engagement at three levels of action: (1) individual level before, during, after encounters (); (2) within health service delivery systems (); and (3) policy advocacy ().

It takes a village to raise a child- A multidisciplinary approach to promoting paediatric health literacy in cystic fibrosis.

Background: In Northern Ireland, approximately 550 people with cystic fibrosis (PwCF) attend the regional paediatric and adult centres within the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust. This autosomal recessive chronic condition necessitates regular clinical monitoring and a high treatment burden, as well as time implications for the maintenance of respiratory devices. Development of health literacy skills at an early age and promoting children with CF (CwCF) to take an active role in their healthcare has many advantages relating to their long-term self-care in preparation for transition from paediatric to adult care, decision-making and partnership engagement with the CF-multidisciplinary team (CF-MDT).
