Peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) is a rare, but serious condition, with a non-negligible risk of adverse events. Several risk factors for PPCM have been individuated over the years, including Afro-American ethnicity, preeclampsia, advanced maternal age, genetic predisposition, multiparity, twin pregnancy, obesity, smoking and diabetes. However, PPCM pathophysiology is still poorly understood, thus making it challenging to develop disease specific therapies.

The relationship of serum vaspin level with clinical parameters in patients with fibromyalgia syndrome.

Vaspin plays a regulatory role in lipid and glucose metabolism and is a therapeutic adipokine against impaired glucose intolerance in obese individuals. We aimed to investigate serum vaspin levels in patients with FMS and whether there was any relationship between vaspin levels and metabolic and clinical parameters in fibromyalgia. A total of 64 female patients who applied to an outpatient clinic due to widespread pain lasting more than three months were included in the study.

Sequelae of B-Cell Depleting Therapy: An Immunologist's Perspective.

B-cell depleting therapy (BCDT) has revolutionised the treatment of B-cell malignancies and autoimmune diseases by targeting specific B-cell surface antigens, receptors, ligands, and signalling pathways. This narrative review explores the mechanisms, applications, and complications of BCDT, focusing on the therapeutic advancements since the introduction of rituximab in 1997. Various monoclonal antibodies and kinase inhibitors are examined for their roles in depleting B cells through antibody-dependent and independent mechanisms.

The impact of multiplex nested gastrointestinal PCR panel in children with gastroenteridis requiring pediatric infectious disease consultation.

Unlabelled: Infectious gastroenteritis is an important cause of morbidity and mortality, especially in nations with middle and low incomes. In a pediatric gastroenteritis patient, the aim was to determine the therapeutic impact of using the Gastrointestinal Panel in our clinical practice. A single-center retrospective study was designed to evaluate children who were admitted to the hospital for gastroenteritis and had a gastrointestinal panel between August 2021 and January 2024.

Surgical valve replacement in adults late after total cavo-pulmonary connection/Fontan procedure.

Objectives: There is dearth of data on long-term outcomes of systemic semilunar (SS) or atrioventricular (AV) valve operation in adult patients with a Fontan circulation. We describe a single-centre experience of adults who underwent valve surgery late after a Fontan procedure.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed all patients with a Fontan circulation who had a reoperation for severe valve disease during adulthood in our centre.

Design and implementation of efficient bootloader for endurance enhancement in flash memory storage systems.

We propose a new bootloader design with dynamic boot addressing to increase the endurance of microcontroller flash memories and to use flash memory efficiently. Although the final industrial products are not updated much, regular programming during the development and testing phase inefficiently reduces the endurance of flash memory. Especially after the pandemic, the problems experienced in the production/supply processes of products using semiconductor technology and the highly extended deadlines have inspired our work to extend the life of the products used in the development and testing phase.

This so-called "deviation" may alter management strategies in favorable or unfavorable ways.

Kisspeptins are reported to be the most potent activators of the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis known to date. Kisspeptin potently elicits gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) release and luteinizing hormone (LH) secretion, even in the pre-pubertal period. Beyond the hypothalamus, kisspeptin is also expressed in limbic and paralimbic brain regions, which are areas of the neurobiological network primarily implicated in emotional behaviors alongside sexual functions.

Turkish Society of Gastroenterology: Pancreas Working Group, Acute Pancreatitis Committee Consensus Report.

Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a clinical condition that arises acutely in the pancreas through various inflammatory pathways due to multiple causes. Turkish Society of Gastroenterology Pancreas Working Group developed comprehensive guidance statements regarding the management of AP that include its epidemiology, etiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic criteria, disease severity, treatment, prognosis, local and systemic complications. The statements were developed through literature review, deliberation, and consensus opinion.

Clinical features and natural course of Hidradenitis Suppurativa in Turkey: a multicentre study.

Gas chromatography (GC) was used to determine the fatty acid (FA) compositions of total lipid, phospholipid (PL), phospholipid subclass (phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylinositol (PI), phosphatidylserine (PS), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE)), and TAG (triacylglycerol) fractions in male Chondrostoma regium. Percentages of myristic acid (14:0), palmitoleic acid (16:1n-7), oleic acid (18:1n-9), monounsaturated fatty acid (ΣMUFA), linoleic acid (18:2n-6) and linolenic acid (18:3n-3) were found to be higher in TAG than the values determined in PL classes. Palmitic acid (16:0), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA, 20:5n-3), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, 20:6n-3) in the PC fraction; 16:0, 20:5n-3, 22:6n-3 in PE; 16:0, stearic acid (18:0), arachidonic acid (AA, 20:4n-6), 20:5n-3, 22:6n-3 in PI; and 16:0, 18:0, oleic acid (18:1n- 9), 22:6n-3 in PS were found to be dominant.

Adults with congenital heart disease: what every cardiologist should know about their care.

As patients with congenital heart disease (CHD) continue to enjoy longer lives, non-congenital cardiologists and other healthcare professionals are increasingly encountering them in their practice and are challenged by their specific needs. Most under- and post-graduate medical training tends to overlook this common pathology, resulting in insufficient awareness of post-repair or post-palliation residual lesions and sequelae from previous interventions. In a strive towards improving the quality of care for this ever-growing cardiovascular patient cohort, it is prudent to outline the areas of concern and specific management needs pertaining to adult patients with CHD and share it with non-CHD professionals.

Dual hypothermic oxygenated machine perfusion of the liver reduces post transplant biliary complications - a retrospective cohort study.

Background: Corroborating evidence for use of hypothermic oxygenated machine perfusion (HOPE) prior to orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) suggests a beneficial effect in regards to biliary complications. Here, we aim to evaluate whether perfusion via portal vein alone (sHOPE) or via additional perfusion of the hepatic artery (dHOPE) have diverging impact on outcomes after OLT when compared to use of static cold storage (SCS).

Methods: Consecutive patients undergoing OLT at Medical University of Vienna (2018 to 2023) were retrospectively analyzed.

The Bioaccumulations of Metal(loid)s in the Tissues of Invasive Carassius gibelio (Bloch, 1782) Fish from the Kızılırmak River (Türkiye) and Health Risk Assessment.

The present research was an examination of the concentration levels of 10 metal(loid)s that had accumulated in the muscle, gills, and liver tissues of Carassius gibelio (Prussian carp) fish. The fish species, used as samples in the study, were obtained from the part of the river in Gülşehir (Türkiye). Besides, possible health risks to consumers were specified based on the daily estimated intake (EDI) of metal(loid)s in adults.

Antibiotic Lock Therapy for Port Catheter-Related Infections of Children with Acute Leukemia.

Introduction: Port catheters facilitate the administration of chemotherapy, antibiotics, blood products, fluid, and parenteral nutrition to pediatric patients with hematological malignancies. However, as its use has become widespread, local and systemic, catheter-related infections have emerged as important causes of morbidity and mortality. In our study, we aimed to evaluate the success of antibiotic lock therapy in port catheter-related infections of pediatric patients followed up with acute leukemia.

Examination of Cyberbullying Experiences of Social Media Users.

This study was carried out in a descriptive and cross-sectional design in order to examine the cyberbullying experiences of individuals using social media. This descriptive study was conducted online between June 16, 2022, and August 16, 2022, in Turkey. The data collection process was completed with 471 participants.
