The rapid growth in biological sequence data is revolutionizing our understanding of genotypic diversity and challenging conventional approaches to informatics. With the increasing availability of genomic data, traditional bioinformatic tools require substantial computational time and the creation of ever-larger indices each time a researcher seeks to gain insight from the data. To address these challenges, we pre-computed important relationships between biological entities spanning the Central Dogma of Molecular Biology and captured this information in a relational database.

The voice onset time is a temporal acoustic parameter defined as the time between the release of the oral constriction for plosive production and the onset of vocal fold vibrations. Hearing impairment is one of the factors that can effect the magnitude of voice onset time. Since voice onset time is a useful, noninvasive method for documenting the articulatory-phonatory aspects of vocal training during speech, we investigated voice onset time values for Turkish stop consonants in adult cochlear implanted patients in order to clarify the effect of CI and sequential hearing rehabilitation over voice onset time values.

With greater availability of data, businesses are increasingly becoming data-driven enterprises, establishing standards for data acquisition, processing, infrastructure, and decision making. Enterprises now have people dedicated to performing analytic work to support decision makers. To better understand analytic work, particularly the role of enterprise business analysts, researchers interviewed 34 analysts at a large corporation.

Background: Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) is the backflow of stomach contents above upper esophageal sphincter, into the pharynx, larynx, and upper aerodigestive system.

Objectives: In this study, effects of omeprazole over voice quality in muscle tension dysphonia with laryngopharyngeal reflux was ınvestigated.

Patients And Methods: Nine patients, 7 males and 2 females, aged between 27-43 (mean age:31) were included to this study.

A 44-year-old man presented with squamous cell carcinoma (T1aN0M0) on the left vocal fold and was prepared for a combined laryngofissure cordectomy and type III thyroplasty. The author performed both procedures together-not only to lower the tension on the healthy vocal fold, but also to determine whether the thyroplasty would successfully close the glottic gap created by the cordectomy, resulting in relatively fast improvement in the patient's voice. Satisfactory glottic closure and a satisfactory voice result were achieved rather quickly.

Objectives: In this retrospective study, voice therapy results of adult patients with hyperfunctional voice disorders were discussed.

Patients And Methods: Ninety-one adult patients (59 females, 32 males; mean age: 37 years; range 18 to 54 years) who completed their voice therapy sessions between May 2002 and May 2007 were included in this study. The voice therapy plan was focused on developing competence in perception, tonus regulation, physiological breathing and physiological use of voice.

Objectives: We investigated the reliability and validity of the Turkish version of the Voice Handicap Index (VHI), and developed a short VHI form that would be more practical.

Patients And Methods: The original VHI was translated to Turkish by 10 otolaryngologists, then it was translated back to English by a linguist, and the final text was prepared by the evaluation committee composed of three members. The translated version was administered to a group of 220 subjects twice with 7-14 days intervals.
