The relationship between structures affecting maxillary sinus ventilation and maxillary sinus volume: a CT study.

Purpose: This study aims to identify anatomical variations inside and outside the maxillary sinus (MS), determine their prevalence and coexistence, and investigate their relationship with MS volume in individuals without MS pathology, using ImFusion Suite software.

Methods: Analysis of 330 paranasal CT scans obtained from the radiology archive (2018-2021) was performed using the ImFusion Suite program. Anatomical variations, including accessory ostium, Haller cells, ethmomaxillary sinus, concha anomalies, septa, and impacted teeth, were identified and their frequency of coexistence was determined.

Direct observation of carbon dioxide adsorption and binding at the air/aqueous interface.

Carbon dioxide removal (CDR) involves reducing carbon dioxide (CO₂) concentrations. Developing new technologies and enhancing existing ones for extracting and converting CO₂ are ongoing areas of research. In all these technologies, the movement of CO molecules through an interface is a common process.

Contingency learning of social cues: neural engagement and emotional modulation by facial expressions.

Contingency learning-the fundamental process by which associations are formed between events in our experience is as relevant of conditioning as it is for social interactions, where emotional cues, such as facial expressions, signal complex and reciprocal causal dynamics. This study investigates the functional neuroanatomy underlying contingency perception by with three type of contingent relation (positive, zero, and negative) using sad and happy facial expressions as stimuli in a group of neurotypical participants. Employing a streaming trial paradigm and functional MRI, we examined how these emotional contingencies engage brain regions involved in attention and predictive processing.

Clinical Features and Remission Rates in Cushing's Disease: A Comparison of MRI-Detectable and MRI-Undetectable Pituitary Adenomas.

We aimed to characterize the clinical features and remission rates of patients with Cushing's Disease (CD) without magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) detectable pituitary adenoma compared to CD patients with MRI-detectable pituitary adenoma.All patients with adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH)-dependent Cushing's syndrome (CS) without MRI-detectable pituitary adenoma underwent high-dose dexamethasone suppression test, corticotropin-releasing hormone stimulation test, and/or bilateral inferior petrosal sinus sampling (BIPSS). The diagnosis of CD in patients without MRI-detectable adenoma was confirmed when the results of dynamic testing and sampling concordantly indicated ACTH-producing adenoma.

Search for Magnetic Monopole Pair Production in Ultraperipheral Pb+Pb Collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.36 TeV with the ATLAS Detector at the LHC.

This Letter presents a search for highly ionizing magnetic monopoles in 262  μb^{-1} of ultraperipheral Pb+Pb collision data at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.36  TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. A new methodology that exploits the properties of clusters of hits reconstructed in the innermost silicon detector layers is introduced to study highly ionizing particles in heavy-ion data.

Experiences of early adolescents with allergic asthma receiving online education from peers: a qualitative phenomenological study.

Objectives: To evaluate the experiences and opinions of adolescents aged 10-14 years with allergic asthma in Turkiye about the online asthma education they received from their peers.

Methods: Eleven adolescents who had previously received peer education concerning asthma participated in this qualitative phenomenological study. These were asked semi-structured questions to evaluate peer education through a video chat program.

Background: The severity of foot disability in children with cerebral palsy (CP) should be examined with both objective and subjective assessment tools. This cross-sectional study investigated the effect of foot-ankle function on physical performance in CP with spastic equinus deformity.

Methods: A cross-sectional prospective study was performed on 61 children with cerebral palsy.

An Interobserver Comparison of the Ultrasound Lexicon Classification of Thyroid Nodules: A Single-Center Prospective Validation Study.

: Guidelines for the risk stratification of thyroid nodules are based on certain well-recognized sonographic features of nodules. However, significant variations in reported sensitivity and specificity values are observed due to the overlap of imaging characteristics between benign and malignant nodules. Additionally, differences in ultrasound (US) equipment and the varying experience levels of radiologists performing the imaging procedures contribute to these discrepancies.

Bridging therapy with histotripsy prior to liver transplantation for hepatocellular carcinoma: a first case report.

Background: Histotripsy is a novel, non-invasive, non-ionizing, and non-thermal ablation technique that disrupts tumors using acoustic cavitation. We report the first use of Histotripsy as bridging therapy prior to liver transplant for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treated with histotripsy.

Case Presentation: A 59-year-old woman presented with Metabolic-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) cirrhosis (labMELD = 14), hepatic encephalopathy, and a single 2 cm OPTN V lesion in the left lateral segment consistent with HCC.

Parallels and discrepancies between non-native species introductions and human migration.

Biological invasions and human migrations have increased globally due to socio-economic drivers and environmental factors that have enhanced cultural, economic, and geographic connectivity. Both processes involve the movement, establishment, and spread of species, yet unfold within fundamentally different philosophical, social and biological contexts. Hence, studying biological invasions (invasion science) and human migration (migration studies) presents complex parallels that are potentially fruitful to explore.

Education Priority Setting: A Multi-stakeholder Survey Study of the Didactic Curriculum of an Adult Neurology Residency Program (P6-7.002).

Objective: To create a dedicated, multi-stakeholder feedback survey focused on residency didactic education and utilize corresponding results to prioritize educational initiatives.

Background: The didactic curriculum constitutes a significant component of trainee education, but existing program performance measures provide very little focused feedback on this element of learning.

Design/methods: We designed three overlapping online surveys targeting residents, teaching faculty, and alumni of the adult neurology residency program at the our institution following best practice survey development recommendations.

Isatin-modified Calixarene derivatives: A comprehensive study on synthesis, enzyme inhibition, antioxidant, antimicrobial, and Antiproliferative activities.

In this article, a series of calix[4]arenes derivatized with isatin derivatives at the phenolic-O position were synthesized as potential theranostic molecules for antitumor therapy. The cytotoxic mechanism of action of the synthesized compounds was determined by Alamar Blue assay and flow cytometry using MCF-7, MDA-MB-231, DLD1, HeLa and A549 human cancer cell lines and their ability to penetrate into PNT1A healthy epithelial cells. To detect DNA damage, the Comet test was applied after the synthesized compounds interacted with the cells.

Major disaster, profound impact: A qualitative examination of emergency department nurses' experiences during the 2023 Turkey Maraş earthquake.

Introduction: This study aims to reveal the experiences of emergency department nurses who were deployed to the region during the Kahramanmaraş earthquake. Emergency nurses play a critical role in disaster management due to their ability to perform rapid and effective triage in crisis situations, which can be life-saving.

Method: The study conducted interviews with 20 emergency department nurses using a snowball sampling and criterion sampling approach.

Effect of assertiveness skills training on nursing students' competencies.

Background: Healthcare services require effective interaction with patients, their relatives, and members of the multidisciplinary team in complex and dynamic environments. Health professionals need well-developed communication skills to ensure that these interactions promote and maintain patient safety. Aim This study aimed to develop a cognitive behavioral therapy based assertiveness training program to improve the nursing students' competencies and to evaluate its effectiveness.

BiFPN-enhanced SwinDAT-based cherry variety classification with YOLOv8.

Accurate classification of cherry varieties is crucial for their economic value and market differentiation, yet their genetic diversity and visual similarity make manual identification challenging, hindering efficient agricultural and trade practices. This study addresses this issue by proposing a novel deep learning-based hybrid model that integrates BiFPN with the YOLOv8n-cls framework, enhanced by Swin Transformer and Deformable Attention Transformer (DAT) techniques. The model was trained and evaluated on a newly constructed dataset comprising cherry varieties from Turkey's Western Mediterranean region.

Possible therapeutic effects of PROK2 in testicular ischemia/reperfusion injury: A preclinical study in Wistar albino rats.

This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic effects of PROK2 on oxidative stress, inflammatory response, and tissue damage caused by ischaemia/reperfusion (I/R) in testicular tissue. A total of 48 prepubertal male Wistar albino rats were divided into four groups: sham, testicular torsion/detorsion (TTD), testicular torsion + PROK2 + detorsion (TT + PROK2 + TD), and testicular torsion/detorsion + PROK2 (TTD + PROK2) (n = 12). Testicular torsion/detorsion surgeries (2 hours of torsion followed by 24 hours of detorsion) were performed on all groups except the sham group.

An artificial intelligence model for Lhermitte's sign in patients with pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis: A follow-up study.

Background: Lhermitte's sign (LS) is an important clinical marker for patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). Research on pediatric-onset MS (POMS) and LS is limited. To date, there has been no research conducted on the clinical and artificial intelligence (AI)-based radiological correlation of LS.

Materials: One well preserved adult human skeleton dated to the 7th-9th centuries buried within the church of Constantine-Helena near Niğde in the Cappadocia region of Anatolia.

Methods: Macroscopic and metric analysis using a digital sliding calliper, enhanced and complemented by a Multi-Detector Computer Tomography scan of the cranium.

Asthma patients with obesity have a unique phenotype: a subanalysis of the Turkish adult asthma registry.

Objective: The obese-asthma phenotype has gradually increased in the last few years. We aimed to assess the differences between obese and non-obese patients with asthma.

Methods: This research is a subanalysis of the Turkish Adult Asthma Registry (TAAR).

Long-Term Outcomes of Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation for Relapsed/Refractory Hodgkin and Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma: Multi-center Experience from Turkey.

This multicenter retrospective study evaluated the efficacy of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) on survival and safety in patients with relapsed/refractory (R/R) Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). A total of 110 patients with R/R HL or NHL who underwent allo-HSCT between July 2007 and October 2022 at 7 adult stem cell transplant centers were evaluated. Progression-free survival (PFS), graft versus host disease-free survival (GRFS), and overall survival (OS) were the primary endpoints, and NRM was the secondary endpoint.

Introduction: Anticipation is a covert aspect of stuttering that plays a crucial role in the lives of adults who stutter (AWS). It can influence anxiety levels or provide an opportunity for self-regulation. For assessing anticipation in stuttering, the Stuttering Anticipation Scale (SAS) was developed.

Unified atmospheric attenuation models for visible and infrared wavelengths.

Optical wireless communication (OWC) encompasses the utilization of optical frequencies, including visible light (VL) and infrared (IR), for unguided data transmission. Two common terms within this field are free-space optical (FSO) communication, which involves laser-based systems for long-distance point-to-point transmission at IR wavelengths, and visible light communication (VLC), which refers to LED-based systems with shorter transmission ranges at VL wavelengths. For outdoor operation of these systems, it is critical to understand the interaction of optical signals with the propagation environment.

Simultaneous Unbinned Differential Cross-Section Measurement of Twenty-Four Z+jets Kinematic Observables with the ATLAS Detector.

Z boson events at the Large Hadron Collider can be selected with high purity and are sensitive to a diverse range of QCD phenomena. As a result, these events are often used to probe the nature of the strong force, improve Monte Carlo event generators, and search for deviations from standard model predictions. All previous measurements of Z boson production characterize the event properties using a small number of observables and present the results as differential cross sections in predetermined bins.

Prognostic factors for overall survival in castration-resistant metastatic prostate cancer treated with docetaxel (MeProCSS): results from a German real-world cohort.

Purpose: To identify prognostic factors for overall survival (OS) and develop a prognostic score in patients receiving docetaxel in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC).

Methods: Retrospective analysis was conducted on mCRPC patients treated with docetaxel at a German tertiary center between March 2010 and November 2023. Prognostic clinical and laboratory factors were analyzed using uni- and multivariable logistic regression.

Socioeconomic status has direct impact on asthma control: Turkish adult asthma registry.

Background: Asthma is one of the most common causes of chronic respiratory disease, and countries with low socioeconomic status have both a high prevalence of asthma and asthma-related death.

Objective: In this study, we aimed to determine socioeconomic levels of asthmatic patients according to a national database and investigate the effects of social markers on disease control in our region.
