Mitochondrial dysfunction is increasingly recognized as a key factor in Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathogenesis, but the precise relationship between mitochondrial dynamics and proteinopathies in AD remains unclear. This study investigates the role of mitochondrial dynamics and function in the hippocampal tissue and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of 5xFAD transgenic mice, as a model of AD. The levels of mitochondrial fusion proteins OPA1 and MFN2 and fission proteins DRP1 and phospho-DRP1 (S616) at 3, 6, and 9 months of age were assessed.

Background: The main aim of the study is to investigate the thermal, textural and vaporization behaviors of turpentine oil (representing essential oils) organogels prepared with wax mixtures (beeswax, BW; shellac wax, SHW) instead of a single wax. The second aim was to determine the optimum level of wax addition to minimize vaporization of volatiles using response surface methodology.

Results: Both weighing and thermogravimetric analyses showed that when the total wax concentration increased, the vaporization was decelerated.

The P2X3 receptor (P2X3R), an ATP-gated non-selective cation channel of the P2X receptor family, is expressed in sensory neurons and involved in nociception. P2X3R inhibition was shown to reduce chronic and neuropathic pain. In a previous screening of 2000 approved drugs, natural products, and bioactive substances, various non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) were found to inhibit P2X3R-mediated currents.

Purpose/aim Of The Study: The ultimate goal of periodontal treatment is to regenerate the lost periodontal tissues. The interest in nanomaterials in dentistry is growing rapidly and has focused on improvements in various biomedical applications, such as periodontal regeneration and periodontal tissue engineering. To enhance periodontal tissue regeneration, hydroxyapatite (HA) was used in conjunction with other scaffold materials, such as Poly lactic-co-glycolic-acid (PLGA) and collagen (C).

Female hypospadias is a very rare congenital anomaly and its impact on fertility has not yet been clearly defined. A 21-year-old woman with hypospadias was admitted with secondary infertility, dyspareunia, and urge symptoms. She was successfully treated with vaginal flap urethroplasty and broad spectrum antibiotics.

Conjugated polyelectrolytes (CPEs) have been widely used as reporters in colorimetric assays targeting nucleic acids. CPEs provide naked eye detection possibility by their superior optical properties however, as concentration of target analytes decrease, trace amounts of nucleic acid typically yield colorimetric responses that are not readily perceivable by naked eye. Herein, we report a pixelated analysis approach for correlating colorimetric responses of CPE with nucleic acid concentrations down to 1 nM, in plasma samples, utilizing a smart phone with an algorithm that can perform analytical testing and data processing.

Objectives: Appendicitis is the most common condition leading to an intraabdominal operation for a non obstetric problem in pregnancy and diagnosis of appendicitis is complicated by the physiologic and anatomic changes that occur during pregnancy. Although a surgical procedure carries the risk of fetal loss or preterm delivery, delay in diagnosis also increases the risk of complications in both mother and fetus. In this report we present our experience and analyze clinical characteristic and the pregnancy outcomes of appendicitis diagnosed incidentally during cesarean in the third trimester.
