Posture-induced compressive peroneal neuropathy usually occurs after maintaining certain positions, such as prolonged squatting or habitual leg crossing. Peroneal neuropathy mainly presents with unilateral foot drop and variable sensory deficit. In this article, a case series of unilateral/bilateral peroneal nerve palsy secondary to prolonged squatting during peanut harvesting was reported.

Introduction: Glucocorticoids (GCs) play a crucial role in the treatment of many rheumatic diseases regarding their anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects. Inappropriate use of GCs can exacerbate GC-related problems besides complex treatment regimens and miscellaneous well-established adverse events. Although several guidelines exist for managing these problems, there is lack of real-life studies evaluating the problems at the patient level.

Article Synopsis
  • The study looked at how sensitive to pain people with chronic shoulder pain are compared to healthy people.
  • They tested 58 patients with shoulder pain and 58 healthy participants to see how much pressure they could handle on their shoulders, arms, and legs.
  • Results showed that patients had less ability to handle pain on the side where their shoulder hurt, making them more sensitive than the healthy group.

Objective: The glucocorticoid toxicity index (GTI) is developed to measure glucocorticoid (GC)-related morbidity over time. This study aimed to assess GC-toxicity in patients at a rheumatology outpatient clinic by using the GTI and to identify the factors that interfere with the GTI.

Methods: This prospective study included patients with inflammatory arthritis (IA), connective tissue disease, and vasculitis who were newly prescribed GC-treatment (GC-naive) or have been still on GC-treatment for ≤2 years (GC-experienced).

Background: Central sensitization has a major role in health-related parameters in musculoskeletal conditions. There is still a lack of understanding regarding the impact of central sensitization on the interpretation of disease activity and functional disability in primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS).

Methods: The Central Sensitization Inventory (CSI) was used to screen for central sensitization.

Article Synopsis
  • A study examined cancer rates in patients with ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV) by comparing them to cancer risks in the Turkish population and identifying independent risk factors.
  • Of the 461 AAV patients tracked, 19 developed cancer after an average follow-up of about 3.4 years, with higher cancer risks noted in older males and those with anti-PR3-ANCA positivity.
  • The overall cancer risk for AAV patients was 2.1 times higher than that of the general population, highlighting the need for targeted cancer screening, especially for lung and head-neck cancers in older male patients.

Background/aim: Data on the role of central sensitization in hemodialyzed patients are scarce. The aim was to identify the impact of central sensitization on quality of life and elucidate the risk factors for the development of central sensitization in patients receiving hemodialysis.

Methods: Central sensitization, quality of life, psychological well-being, and sleep were assessed by the Central Sensitization Inventory (CSI), abbreviated version of the World Health Organization Quality of Life Instrument (WHOQOL-BREF), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), and Jenkins Sleep Evaluation Scale (JSS), respectively.

Introduction: Orexin is a neuropeptide neurotransmitter that regulates the sleep/wake cycle produced by the lateral hypothalamus neurons. Recent studies have shown the involvement of orexin system in epilepsy. Limited data is available about the possible role of orexins in the pathophysiology of absence seizures.

This study proposes a new hybrid multi-modal sensory feedback system for prosthetic hands that can provide not only haptic and proprioceptive feedback but also facilitate object recognition without the aid of vision. Modality-matched haptic perception was provided using a mechanotactile feedback system that can proportionally apply the gripping force through the use of a force controller. A vibrotactile feedback system was also employed to distinguish four discrete grip positions of the prosthetic hand.

Background: Epidural steroid injections are common procedures used to treat lumbosacral radicular pain due to lumbar disc herniation (LDH). It is crucial for the clinician to anticipate which patients can benefit from interventional treatment options.

Objective: This study aimed to examine the effect of radiological and clinical parameters on lumbar transforaminal epidural steroid injections (TFESI)/local anesthetic injection outcomes in patients with LDH.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates scapulothoracic muscle activation during tennis serves in young athletes with scapular dyskinesis, comparing them to a control group.
  • It uses surface electromyography to assess muscle activation in different phases of the serve and myotonometry to measure mechanical properties like tone and stiffness.
  • Results show reduced activation of the ascending trapezius in the follow-through phase and altered mechanical properties, suggesting the need for targeted rehabilitation or training for affected athletes.

Achievement of fit between the residual limb and prosthetic socket during socket manufacture is a priority for clinicians and is essential for safety. Clinicians have recognised the potential benefits of having a sensor system that can provide objective socket-limb interface pressure measurements during socket fitting, but the cost of existing systems makes current technology prohibitive. This study will report on the characterisation, validation and preliminary clinical implementation of a low cost, portable, wireless sensor system designed for use during socket manufacture.

Haptics plays a significant role not only in the rehabilitation of neurological disorders, such as stroke, by substituting necessary cognitive information but also in human-computer interfaces (HCIs), which are now an integral part of the recently launched metaverse. This study proposes a unique, soft, monolithic haptic feedback device (SoHapS) that was directly manufactured using a low-cost and open-source fused deposition modeling (FDM) 3D printer by employing a combination of soft conductive and nonconductive thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) materials (NinjaTek, USA). SoHapS consists of a soft bellow actuator and a soft resistive force sensor, which are optimized using finite element modeling (FEM).
