Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to compare the effectiveness of epoprostenol and Helixor in treating avascular necrosis of the femoral head in rabbits, with the hypothesis that Helixor may be as effective as epoprostenol.
  • A group of 45 rabbits was divided into three groups: a control group, one treated with Ilomedin (an epoprostenol analogue), and another with Helixor. Various factors such as bone necrosis, repair, and cartilage damage were examined microscopically.
  • Results showed that while the control group had more necrosis, the treatment groups had improved bone marrow cellularity and less cartilage damage, with Helixor showing the most significant

Tomato leather as a healthy alternative to traditional fruit leathers was formulated. A tray dryer with changing temperature (50, 60, and 70°C) and relative humidity (5%, 10%, and 20%) was used to achieve the best product in terms of color, water distribution, lycopene content, mechanical, and sensorial properties. Color change was the highest at 70°C due to the Maillard reaction.

This study examined the diffraction of a pseudo nondiffracting Bessel beam by a perfect electromagnetic disk. The geometric optics beam waves were written from the geometry of the problem and related boundary conditions. The diffracted beam waves were derived by utilizing the relation between geometric optics and diffracted waves at the transition boundaries, considering the high frequency asymptotic expression of the scattered wave.

The scattering process of waves by a planar junction of two half-planes, one of which is impedance and the other a reflectionless metasurface, is studied. The transition boundary method is considered. The scattered geometric optics field is obtained by subtracting the initial fields from the total geometric optics field.

Transplantation is lifesaving and the most effective treatment for end-stage organ failure. The transplantation success depends on the functional preservation of organs prior to transplantation. Currently, the University of Wisconsin (UW) and histidine-tryptophan-ketoglutarate (HTK) are the most commonly used preservation solutions.

There is growing interest in widening the genetic diversity of domestic crops using wild relatives to break linkage drag and/or introduce new adaptive traits, particularly in narrow crops such as chickpea. To this end, it is important to understand wild and domestic adaptive differences to develop greater insight into how wild traits can be exploited for crop improvement. Here, we study wild and domestic development and water-use over the lifecycle, measuring responses to reproductive water deficit, a key Mediterranean selection pressure, using mini-lysimeters (33 L round pots) in common gardens under contrasting water regimes.

In the present work, diffraction of a Gaussian source beam by a perfect electromagnetic conductor (PEMC) semi-screen is investigated. Due to the special property of the PEMC sheet, which is a combination of perfect electric conductor and perfect magnetic conductor surfaces, the reflected wave from the PEMC surface has a cross-polarized component in addition to the co-polarized component. For an electric line source illumination, the diffracted fields are derived by considering the analogy between the transition boundaries and scattered geometric optics fields.

Objective: Exercise has many beneficial effects in the treatment and prevention of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of physical activities with different frequencies performed within a total total duration of one week on the heart and kidney tissues and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expressions in experimental T2DM model.

Method: Rats (n: 30) were divided into sedentary control (SC), sedentary T2DM (SD), T2DM and continuous exercise (DEc, 30 min/day, 5 days/week), T2DM and short bouts exercise (DEsb, 3x10 min/day, 5 days/week), T2DM and weekend warrior exercise (DEww, 35+40 min/day, 2 days/week) groups.

Purpose: The purpose of this experimental study was to investigate the effect of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO2) therapy combined with microfracture technique in the treatment of cartilage lesions.

Methods: Adult Wistar rats (n=44) were divided into six groups. In Groups A, B, C and D, ICRS* (* International Cartilage Repair Society) grade 4 cartilage lesions were made on the femoral sulcus of both knees.

In this study, the scattering of plane waves by a half-plane with different face impedances, which lie between isorefractive media, is analyzed. A new approach for the solution of this scenario is proposed. According to this proposal, the problem of isorefractive media and an impedance half-plane is modeled by a junction of resistive and impedance sheets.

Domesticated species are impacted in unintended ways during domestication and breeding. Changes in the nature and intensity of selection impart genetic drift, reduce diversity, and increase the frequency of deleterious alleles. Such outcomes constrain our ability to expand the cultivation of crops into environments that differ from those under which domestication occurred.

Actinomycosis osteomyelitis of the jaw bones, particularly in the maxilla, is an extremely rare disease. This report presents two cases of maxillary and two cases of mandibular actinomycosis osteomyelitis, with the diagnosis particularly based on histological procedures. The highly diversified pathogenicity of the phenomenon and the absence of solid diagnostic criteria are discussed.

Membranous glomerulonephritis (MGN) is among the most common causes of nephrotic syndrome in adults. The malignancy in presumed tumor-induced MGN has usually been diagnosed at the time the proteinuria is discovered. Here we report a 57-year-old male patient with a history of refractory pyuria and nephrotic syndrome.

Osteoid osteoma and osteoblastoma are histologically similar, benign bone-forming tumors. In this retrospective study, we aimed to evaluate the natural history; clinical, pathologic, and radiologic findings; and treatment results in 204 patients between 1959 and 2006 in a single institution. According to the World Health Organization's definition, tumors ≤1 cm in diameter were classified as osteoid osteoma, and those ≥2 cm, as osteoblastoma.

Background: Polyoma BK virus nephropathy (BKVN) is one of the important causes of graft failure and loss among renal transplant patients. Reduction of immunosuppression is the most important preferred treatment approach; however, there is no agreed protocol for additional treatments.

Objective: Our aim was to investigate the effects on graft survival of intensive treatment protocols for BKVN among renal transplant patients.

Oxalosis, deposition of calcium oxalate in tissues, is the final stage of hyperoxaluric syndromes. Being a rare entity, it is often missed, or the diagnosis is delayed, since the definitive diagnosis requires special laboratory tests. Kidneys, the walls of blood vessels, and bones are the major sites for crystal deposition.

A 49-year-old man was admitted to hospital for treatment of a T10-11 paraspinal lesion, which was detected incidentally. He had suffered from facial flushing and palpitations associated with hypertension for many years. MRI confirmed the presence of a large, well-demarcated tumour in the left paraspinal area of the T10-11 vertebral bodies.
