Background: The inability to ensure adequate nutrition for patients, and failure to provide adequate calorie and protein intake, result in malnutrition, leading to increased morbidity and mortality. The present study assesses the two approaches to enteral nutrition-intermittent and continuous enteral feeding-in critically ill pediatric patients in Türkiye to determine the superiority of one method over the other.

Methods: Included in this multicenter prospective study were patients receiving enteral nutrition via a tube who were followed up over a 3-month period.

Background: Periprosthetic joint infections (PJIs) are a major complication of total joint replacement surgeries. This study investigated the enhancement of mechanical properties and antibiotic release in ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) through the encapsulation of submicron gentamicin sulfate (GS) particles, addressing the critical need for improved implant materials in orthopaedic surgery, particularly in managing PJIs.

Methods: The present study involved embedding submicron GS particles into UHMWPE flakes at concentrations of 2% to 10% by weight.

Total joint replacement is a successful procedure for restoring the patient's musculoskeletal mobility and quality of life, but it carries the risk of severe peri-prosthetic joint infections (PJI) and is accompanied by post-operative pain. Cocktails of multiple drugs are often used for prevention/treatment of PJI and for addressing pain. Local drug delivery systems are promising for improving the outcome of the treatment and decreasing the side effects of systemic drugs.

Background: A pathological complete response (pCR) rate after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) is important for the prognosis of early-stage breast cancer. The prediction of an NAC response plays a key role in managing neoadjuvant treatment.

Aims: The aim of this study is to investigate the predictive value of the baseline PETCT FDG (F-18 fluoro-deoxy-glucose (FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography) SUVmax (the maximum standardized uptake value) for pCR after NAC in early-stage breast cancer.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explored how different laser treatments affect the bond strength between two types of polymers, PEEK and PEKK, and composite resins.
  • A total of 130 samples were used, divided into five groups based on laser treatment type, with measurements taken for surface roughness and shear bond strength.
  • Results indicated that while all lasers improved the surface roughness, the Er: YAG and femtosecond lasers increased bond strength for PEEK, while the Nd: YAG and diode lasers performed poorly, and for PEKK, the control group showed stronger bonding than the femtosecond laser.

Article Synopsis
  • This study explored how different pressures applied by tourniquets during foot and ankle surgeries affect nerve function and recovery times in patients aged 18-65.
  • Researchers utilized two tourniquet pressures: LOP + 50 mmHg (Group 1) and LOP + 100 mmHg (Group 2), with 12 patients in each group, and measured the time to nerve response changes.
  • Results indicated that the lower pressure group experienced delayed nerve function decline and quicker recovery times after the tourniquet was released compared to the higher pressure group, suggesting lower tourniquet pressures may have less impact on nerve health.

Objectives: Low back pain is an important public health problem that impairs quality of life and causes limitations in both social and working life. It is attempted to be treated with conservative or surgical procedures. However, how wise is it to plan surgery with a high complication rate when conservative treatment fails to respond?

Methods: In this study, it was planned to investigate the effectiveness of the Disc-Fx procedure, which is one of the minimally invasive techniques for low back pain.

Diamond Blackfan anemia (DBA) is caused by germline heterozygous loss-of-function pathogenic variants (PVs) in ribosomal protein (RP) genes, most commonly and . In addition to red cell aplasia, individuals with DBA are at increased risk of various cancers. Importantly, the mechanism(s) underlying cancer predisposition are poorly understood.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the survival rates of patients with large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the lung, focusing on the Ki-67 proliferation index and other clinical characteristics.
  • The research involved 38 patients and found that factors like age, tumor location, metastasis at diagnosis, and treatment received could impact overall survival rates, though not significantly statistically.
  • It concludes that identifying specific subgroups with lower survival rates could aid in patient prognosis, but larger studies are necessary for more definitive insights.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of remineralization agents such as fluoride varnish and P-4, alone and in combination with Er: YAG laser, on in-vitro hard tissue repair in artificial enamel lesions.

Materials And Methods: A total of sixty enamel surfaces of 4 × 5 mm in size were created on both the buccal and lingual sides of thirty extracted wisdom teeth. Remineralization agents were applied to the specimens that were grouped as follows: Group 1, control; Group 2, fluoride varnish (FV); Group 3, P-4; Group 4, laser; Group 5, laser + FV; and Group 6, laser + P-4.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between risk profile assessments of dental implants that have been in function for at least two-year and peri-implant marginal bone loss during the follow-up period using the Implant Disease Risk Assessment Diagram. Material and Methods: A total of 70 patients and 170 implants who had been functionally loaded for at least two years and who attended follow-up sessions were included in the study. Full-mouth plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), probing depth (PD), bleeding on probing, clinical attachment level (CAL), and peri-implant modified plaque index, modified bleeding index, PD, keratinized mucosal width (KMW), CAL and GR were recorded.

Supercooled preservation (SCP) is a technology that involves cooling a substance below its freezing point without initiating ice crystal formation. It is a promising alternative to prolong the preservation time of cells, tissues, engineered tissue products, and organs compared to the current practices of hypothermic storage. Two-dimensional (2D) engineered tissues are extensively used in research for drug screening and development and investigation of disease progression.

Background: Coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD) is a common occurrence in individuals with insulin resistance (IR). Homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) is a widely used surrogate marker of IR, although recent studies suggest triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is a superior marker of IR that had a better accuracy to predict type 2 diabetes or cardiovascular outcomes than HOMA-IR.

Objectives: We aimed to assess the accuracy and usefulness of TyG index and HOMA-IR for predicting CMD as assessed with echocardiographic coronary flow reserve (CFR) measurement.

Article Synopsis
  • * Both treatments resulted in significant improvements in pain severity, headache duration, frequency of headaches, and reduced need for medication, but GON blocks were notably more effective.
  • * By the third month, patients receiving GON blocks experienced a greater reduction in headache intensity and disability compared to those receiving SPG blocks, indicating that GON block may be the more effective option for managing episodic migraines.
