Cardiac mucormycosis is an exceedingly rare condition. This case report describes mucormycosis endocarditis in an immunocompromised patient with ulcerative colitis. His condition was further complicated by multiple septic emboli to the lungs.

Unlabelled: Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) and hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) are classical diseases characterized by thrombocytopenia and microangiopathic hemolytic anemia. Microangiopathic hemolytic anemia is also a part of clinical picture in patients with hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS). Some overlap in other elements of clinical picture between TTP and HFRS is possible, which could pose difficulties in differential diagnosis.

We describe two sisters (40 and 42 years old) heterozygous for adrenoleukodystrophy who have multiple endocrine disorders. In addition to the characteristic neurological symptoms, the younger patient has Addison disease and primary hypothyroidism attributable to autoimmune thyroiditis, and the older one has Graves disease. Both patients have loss of body hair and sparse scalp hair, which have not been reported previously in women heterozygous for adrenoleukodystrophy.

The authors evaluate the most frequent causes of seizures in 562 patients admitted at the emergency out-patient ward because of fits. 194 patients were admitted because of the first occurrence of seizures, in 12 of them the first manifestation was status epilepticus of the generalized (8), or focal type (4). The commonest causes of seizures were alcoholism (82), disturbances of the brain blood flow (74), posttraumatic states (20), brain tumor (4), or encephalopathies.

A group of 26 patients with the diagnosis of Senile Dementia of Alzheimer type (SDAT) was included by random assignment in a double-blind, cross-over trial of pyritinol versus placebo. The patients had a mild to moderate degree of dementia. Psychiatric and neurological examination, psychometric testing, and measurement of the regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) at rest and during mental activation were used to assess treatment effects.
