WRN helicase is a crucial target of synthetic death in cancer and has a unique advantage in the treatment of microsatellite unstable cancers. Our previous studies have found that quinazoline derivatives showed the WRN-dependent antiproliferative activity. In this study, a series of new quinazoline derivatives were designed and synthesized by optimizing the structure, and evaluating the targeting and sensitivity to WRN helicase.

This study aimed to investigate heavy metal enrichment in different tea plant varieties and their distribution within different plant parts and to clarify the behavioral characteristics of heavy metals in the tea tree-soil system and their influencing factors. In this study, soil samples were collected from the root zones of 13 tea tree varieties in Guizhou, which had been planted for 10 years. The aim was to compare the physicochemical properties of tea plantation soils under soil-forming matrixes and consistent management.

The effect of calcium (Ca)-cadmium (Cd) interactions on the plant Cd bioaccumulation process may be closely related to the ecological Ca/Cd stoichiometry in the substrate. However, owing to the complexity of plant absorption, accumulation mechanisms and influencing factors, the mechanism of Ca-mediated Cd bioaccumulation and Cd tolerance in Capsicum is still unclear. In this study, the bioaccumulation, subcellular distribution and chemical forms of Cd in Capsicum were analysed via pot experiments to reveal the Ca-mediated Cd bioaccumulation process and its detoxification mechanism under different Ca/Cd stoichiometric ratios.

A new fluorescent probe (E)-4-(4-([2,2':6',2''-terpyridin]-4'-yl)styryl)-1-dodecylpyridin-1-ium (TPy-SD), with the aggregation-induced emission (AIE) property in aqueous solution, has been synthesized and characterized. The new probe, TPy-SD exhibited excellent selectivity and sensitivity towards Zn with a relatively low detection limit (1.76 × 10 M).

This work reported a simple and practical protocol for the preparation of methylthiomethyl (MTM) esters/ethers directly from carboxylic acid/phenol and dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) as solvent and methylthiomethyl source. With different types of carboxylic acids/phenols the reactions underwent smooth transformation to afford the corresponding MTM esters/ethers in moderate to excellent yields. This method features catalyst-free, easy to operate, broad substrate scope, good functional group tolerance and involvement of the formation of DMSO enolate.

The E2F family of transcription factors is crucial for cell cycle progression and cell fate decisions. Although E2Fs have been widely studied in mammals, there have been few studies performed in insects. Here, we determined the function of E2F4 in the silkworm, Bombyx mori.

Four new sesquiterpenoids, phellinignins A-D (1-4), together with four known ones (5-8), were isolated from cultures of the fungus Phellinus igniarius. The structures were established by extensive spectroscopic methods including MS, NMR, and the single crystal X-ray diffraction. Compounds 1-3 and 5-8 are tremulane sesquiterpenoids, while compound 4 possesses a new carbon skeleton that might derive from an illudane framework.
