Background: The role of renal artery embolization (RAE) in the therapeutic armamentarium is always controversial. The present study aimed to assess the safety and the surgical outcomes of the instant renal artery embolization (I-RAE) prior to nephrectomy and thrombectomy in patients with locally advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC) with venous thrombus.

This paper derives a set of necessary and sufficient conditions for generating resonant waves by two propagating time-harmonic plane waves. It is shown that in collinear mixing, a resonant wave can be generated either by a pair of longitudinal waves, in which case the resonant mixing wave is also a longitudinal wave, or by a pair of longitudinal and transverse waves, in which case the resonant wave is a transverse wave. In addition, the paper obtains closed-form analytical solutions to the resonant waves generated by two collinearly propagating sinusoidal pulses.

This paper considers the scattering of a plane, time-harmonic wave by an inclusion with heterogeneous nonlinear elastic properties embedded in an otherwise homogeneous linear elastic solid. When the inclusion and the surrounding matrix are both isotropic, the scattered second harmonic fields are obtained in terms of the Green's function of the surrounding medium. It is found that the second harmonic fields depend on two independent acoustic nonlinearity parameters related to the third order elastic constants.

The modification on the titanium implant surface is an effective method to improve the biocompatibility of titanium. This article describes efforts to improve implant biocompatibility by applying titania and hydroxyapatite to form a three-layer coating on the titanium surface. This three-layer coating is made up of HA as the top layer (formed by hydrothermal treatment), porous TiO2 as the middle layer (formed by micro-arc oxidation) and a dense TiO2 film as the inner layer (formed by preanodic oxidation).

This paper describes efforts to improve implant biocompatibility and durability by applying a hybrid technique using composite oxidation. Pure titanium was used as the substrate material. A porous oxide film as the outer layer was produced by micro-arc oxidation and a dense oxide film as the inner layer was produced by pre-anodic oxidation.
