Prostate cancer remains the second-most common cancer diagnosed in men, despite the increasingly widespread use of serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screening. The controversial clinical implications and cost benefits of PSA screening have been highlighted due to its poor specificity, resulting in a high rate of overdiagnosis and underdiagnosis. Thus, the development of novel biomarkers for prostate cancer detection remains an intriguing challenge.

Objective: To investigate the effect of tanshinone IIA on HL-60 and K562 cells apoptosis, and to assay the inhibition of the telomerase activities in the leukemia cell apoptosis induced by Tanshinone.

Method: Using the techniques of cell culture in vitro, flow cytometry and PCR-TRAP observed the telomerase activities and apoptosis of HL-60 and K562 cells which treated by Tan IIA.

Result: 0.

Objective: To investigate the bystander effect of HSV-tk/GCV system-retroviral vector mediated on human cervical carcinoma cell line ME180 (ME).

Methods: By the use of lipofectin and polybrene transfection techniques, recombinant retroviral vector-plxsn-HSV-tk was tansduced into packing cell line PA317 and the obtained recombinant retrovirus was applied to infect ME cells and establish transfection cell line. The effect of GCV on survival rate and bystander effect of ME and ME/TK cells was observed by cell culture and MTT test.

Objective: To investigate enhancement of the bystander effect by tanshinone IIA (Tan) in HSV-tK/GCV system and the correlation with expression of connexin 43 mRNA.

Methods: The cytotoxic effect in HSV-tK/GCV in cervical carcinoma cell line ME180 (ME) and ME/TK was examined by MTT assays. Cx43 mRNA expression was detected by fluor-quantitative RT-PCR.

Objective: To understanding the molecular mechanisms in invasion and metastasis of the ovarian carcinoma, we investigate a novel candidate metastasis-associated gene (MTA1) and nm23H1 mRNA expression and mutation in ovarian carcinoma.

Methods: Twenty primary ovarian carcinoma specimens, 20 corresponding lymph nodes and 8 normal ovarian was examined for mRNA expression and mutation of MTA1 and nm23H1 genes by reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and RT-PCR-SSCP analysis. The level of the expression was determined by the relative optic density (ROD) of the PCR products.

Objective: To investigate the expression and mutation of MTA1, nm23H1 and E-cadherin(E-cad) genes in ovarian carcinoma (OC) in relation to lymph node (LN) metastasis.

Methods: A panel of normal ovarian tissues, primary OC specimens and corresponding LNS was examined for mRNA expression and mutation of MTA1 and nm23H1 and protin expression of E-cad genes by using RT-PCR, RT-PCR-SSCP and immunohistochemistry.

Results: The frequency of MTA1 over expression was 100%(7/7) in primary OC with metastasis but only 38.
