Promises and perils of using Transformer-based models for SE research.

Many Transformer-based pre-trained models for code have been developed and applied to code-related tasks. In this paper, we analyze 519 papers published on this topic during 2017-2023, examine the suitability of model architectures for different tasks, summarize their resource consumption, and look at the generalization ability of models on different datasets. We examine three representative pre-trained models for code: CodeBERT, CodeGPT, and CodeT5, and conduct experiments on the four topmost targeted software engineering tasks from the literature: Bug Fixing, Bug Detection, Code Summarization, and Code Search.

Effect of Jianpi Shengxue Tablet on Iron Metabolism and Nutritional Status in Patients with Renal Anemia: A Prospective, Randomized, Open, Parallel Controlled and Multicenter Clinical Study.

Objective: This study aimed to analyze the clinical efficacy of the Jianpi Shengxue tablet for treating renal anemia.

Methods: A total of 200 patients with renal anemia from December 2020 to December 2022 were enrolled and randomly divided into two groups. Patients in the control group were treated with polysaccharide-iron complex, and those in the experimental group were administered Jianpi Shengxue tablet.

A combined model based on radiomics features of Sonazoid contrast-enhanced ultrasound in the Kupffer phase for the diagnosis of well-differentiated hepatocellular carcinoma and atypical focal liver lesions: a prospective, multicenter study.

Objective: The objective of this study was to develop a combined model based on radiomics features of Sonazoid contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) during the Kupffer phase and to evaluate its value in differentiating well-differentiated hepatocellular carcinoma (w-HCC) from atypical benign focal liver lesions (FLLs).

Methods: A total of 116 patients with preoperatively Sonazoid-CEUS confirmed w-HCC or benign FLL were selected from a prospective multiple study on the clinical application of Sonazoid in FLLs conducted from August 2020 to March 2021. According to the randomization principle, the patients were divided into a training cohort and a test cohort in a 7:3 ratio.

Progress of newborn screening in China.

Newborn screening (NBS) plays a significant role in reducing the risk of birth defects. NBS in China began in the early 1980s. Under the protection of laws and regulations and the leadership of the national health administration, approved screening centers in public hospitals took the responsibility for publicity, screening, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and management of birth defects.

Research on the effectiveness and safety of bronchial thermoplasty in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Objectives: To investigate the clinical efficacy and safety of bronchial thermoplasty (BT) in treating patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Methods: Clinical data of 57 COPD patients were randomized into the control (n = 29, conventional inhalation therapy) or intervention group (n = 28, conventional inhalation therapy plus BT). Primary outcomes were differences in clinical symptom changes, pulmonary function-related indicators, modified Medical Research Council (mMRC), 6-min walk test (6MWT), COPD assessment test (CAT) score and acute exacerbation incidence from baseline to an average of 3 and 12 months.

Machine learning-based intradialytic hypotension prediction of patients undergoing hemodialysis: A multicenter retrospective study.

Background And Objective: Intradialytic hypotension (IDH) is closely associated with adverse clinical outcomes in HD-patients. An IDH predictor model is important for IDH risk screening and clinical decision-making. In this study, we used Machine learning (ML) to develop IDH model for risk prediction in HD patients.

A Novel Metabolic Score for Predicting the Acute Exacerbation in Patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) has higher mortality when developing to acute exacerbation (AECOPD); hence, the early intervention of COPD is critical for preventing AECOPD. Exploring the serum metabolites associated with acute exacerbation in patients with COPD will contribute to the early intervention of COPD.

Methods: In the study, a non-targeted metabolomics strategy combined with multivariate statistical methods was performed to explore the metabolic profiling of COPD developing acute exacerbation, to screen the potential metabolites associated with AECOPD and to analyze the potential value of these metabolites in predicting the development of COPD.

Identification of adulterated milk based on auto-correlation spectra.

A qualitative analysis of melamine-adulterated milk was proposed based on two-trace two-dimensional (2T2D) auto-correlation spectra. The concentration of melamine was used as external perturbation, and 40 adulterated samples of each brand with different concentrations of melamine (0.01 g/L to 1 g/L) were configured.

Clinical characteristics of smoking-related chronic pancreatitis.

Objective: The pathogenesis of chronic pancreatitis (CP) is not completely clear. With further studies, smoking is toxic to the pancreas. This study classified smoking-related CP as a new etiology of CP and defined the cutoff of smoking.

[Anti-tumor and analgesic activity evaluation and mechanism of Compound Kushen Injection].

This study aims to evaluate the anti-tumor and analgesic activities of Compound Kushen Injection(CKI) based on zebrafish model in vivo and investigate the anti-tumor mechanism. To be specific, zebrafish tumor xenotransplantation model was established by microinjection of murine LPC H12 cells into yolk sac. Then the high-dose CKI(H-CKI), medium-dose CKI(M-CKI), low-dose CKI(L-CKI) groups, and the model group were set.

Influence of brands on a discrimination model for adulterated milk based on asynchronous two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy slice spectra.

To improve the robustness of near infrared (NIR) identification models for the milk adulteration, a novel approach was explored based on asynchronous two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy (2D-COS) slice spectra obtained at characteristic wavebands for pure milk and adulterant combined with an N-way partial least squares discriminant analysis (NPLS-DA). NIR diffuse reflectance spectra from four different brands, Guangming (GM), Mengniu (MN), Sanyuan (SY), and Wandashan (WDS), were collected in range of 11,000 to 4000 cm. Influence of brands on discrimination models for adulterated milk was analyzed.

Combination therapy is a promising strategy for treating multidrug-resistant (MDR) cancers. Macromolecules such as antibodies and RNAs have been successfully used for targeted therapy owing to their high specificity. However, their application as therapeutics remains limited due to membrane impermeability and poor intracellular stability.

A computer-aided diagnosis system using white-light endoscopy for the prediction of conventional adenoma with high grade dysplasia.

Objectives: We developed a computer-aided diagnosis system called ECRCCAD using standard white-light endoscopy (WLE) for predicting conventional adenomas with high-grade dysplasia (HGD) to optimise the patients' management decisions during colonoscopy.

Methods: Pretraining model was used to fine-tune the model parameters by transfer learning. 2,397 images of HGD and 2,487 low-grade dysplasia (LGD) images were randomly assigned (8:1:1) to the training, optimising, and internal validation dataset.

Methods: Ovalbumin was used to induce allergic asthma following administration of YFP for one week in mice, to collect the lung tissues, bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BLFA), and feces. The pathological state, tight-junction proteins, inflammatory and oxidative stress-associated biomarkers, and TLRs/NF-B signaling pathway of the lung tissues were evaluated by HE staining, immunofluorescence, ELISA, and WB, separately. RT-PCR was used to test oxidative stress-associated genes.

Fatal Hepatotoxicity Due to Viaminate.

Viaminate is a derivative of retinoic acid (tretinoin) used in the treatment of severe acne and other disorders of keratinization. Liver dysfunction due to viaminate therapy has not been well described and there have been no reported deaths due to viaminate-induced hepatotoxicity. Herein, we report the case of a woman who underwent treatment at the hospital for 38 days and died of hepatic failure after taking viaminate for more than 2 months.

Targeting LncRNA-MALAT1 suppresses the progression of osteosarcoma by altering the expression and localization of β-catenin.

Osteosarcoma (OS), which affects adolescents especially during a growth spurt, has the highest incidence of any primary malignant bone tumour, and a high rate of early metastasis leading to a very poor prognosis. In recent years, non-coding RNAs, especially long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have attracted more and more attention as novel epigenetic regulators in a variety of tumours, including OS. Most recently, metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1) was found to play an important role in OS progression by modulating the enhancers of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2).

Aberrant baseline brain activity in psychogenic erectile dysfunction patients: a resting state fMRI study.

Recent neuroimaging studies have elucidated many interesting and promising findings on sexuality regarding the neural underpinnings of both normal and abnormal sexual processes. Psychogenic erectile dysfunction (pED) consists of a major part of male sexual dysfunction in China, but the understanding of the central mechanism of pED is still in its infancy. It is commonly appreciated that pED is a functional disorder, which can be attributed predominantly or exclusively to psychological factors, such as anxiety, depression, loss of self-esteem, and psychosocial stresses.
