Bipolar disorder (BD) is a major and highly heritable mental illness with severe psychosocial impairment, but its etiology and pathogenesis remains unclear. This study aimed to identify the essential pathways and genes involved in BD using weighted gene coexpression network analysis (WGCNA), a bioinformatic method studying the relationships between genes and phenotypes. Using two available BD gene expression datasets (GSE5388, GSE5389), we constructed a gene coexpression network and identified modules related to BD.

Article Synopsis
  • The COVID-19 pandemic has not only affected physical health but has also led to increased psychological distress among patients in Fangcang shelter hospitals, particularly those with mild to moderate illness.
  • A study involving 129 patients revealed that nearly half experienced symptoms of depression or anxiety, with these symptoms linked to sleep disturbances and overall life stress.
  • The findings highlighted that the psychological impact of COVID-19 was significant, leading to lower sleep quality, heightened anxiety and depression, and adversely affecting the patients' overall quality of life.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Si-Miao-Yong-An (Trade name: Mai-Luo-Ning), a Chinese herbal formulation comprising Flos Lonicerae Japonicae, Radix Scrophulariae Ningpoensis, Radix Angelicae Sinensis and Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis, has been used in treating ischemic cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases for many years. Clinical and experimental studies have shown that Si-Miao-Yong-An can inhibit the inflammatory response and antagonize the blood clotting process.

Aim Of The Study: To investigate the effect of Si-Miao-Yong-An on atherosclerotic plaque stability in rabbit model.

Sigma and pi polarized absorption spectra of Tm:YVO4 crystal have been measured at room temperature. Considering the difference of the sigma and pi polarized absorption spectra and the changing of the refractive index with different wavelengths, we calculate the intensity parameters of Tm3+ in crystal YVO4 which are omega 2 = 1.9416 x 10(-20) (cm2), omega 4 = 0.

In the present work we have designed a small-size portable imaging spectrometer using linear variable interference filter, with CCD camera as picture sensor, and micromotion stage to bring along interference filter which scan across every pixel of CCD array. The difference column pixel in the picture which we get at every step is monocolour partial image under different wavelength, with the step by step, these column monocolour pixels change the wavelength. And finally we reassembled these images and get the whole monocolour image with different wavelength.

We present results from a novel variational method for the study of beam propagation in a Kerr medium with nonlinear absorption. This new method combines the variational method and a nonlinear absorption equation and gives a concise expression for the combination. The results obtained with this method show good quantitative agreement with numerical solutions obtained with the finite-difference method.

By variational approach, we analyze the characteristics of beam propagation through a cubic optical nonlinear medium using a laser beam that has a transverse elliptic Gaussian profile. The analytic solution to the normalized transmittance at the center of the far field as a function of medium position and the beam characteristics is obtained and compared with the numerical simulation, which is realized by a combination of algorithms. We also analyze the peak-valley transmittance difference as a function of medium length, ellipticity, and a stigmatism.

A laser-diode-pumped Yb-doped double-clad fiber laser operating in a hybrid Q-switched regime has been demonstrated. With pulsed pump light and stimulated Brillouin scattering of the gain fiber as the Q-switching mechanisms, the laser generated nanosecond pulses with a stable repetition rate. A single-pulse energy of as much as 143.
