Sialadenitis is a prevalent salivary gland disease resulting in decreased salivary flow rate. To date, little is known about the exact changes and mechanism of ductal cells in sialadenitis. This study aims to establish an efficient method to identify and isolate ductal cells, thereby facilitating further research on this specific cell type.

Although low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is a widely used noninvasive treatment because of photobiomodulation effects, its application for xerostomia remained uncertain. Tight junctions (TJs), mainly composed of claudins, occludin, and ZO family members, are crucial structures that determine material transport through paracellular pathway in salivary gland epithelial cells. Objectives: We aimed to evaluate the histopathological alterations in human salivary glands after radioactive iodine (RAI) treatment for thyroid diseases.
Study Design: We retrospectively selected patients with a history of RAI treatment for thyroid diseases from a database of patients who underwent surgery for oral and maxillofacial diseases and had specimens of salivary glands at Peking University School of Stomatology between December 2012 and July 2023. The patients' clinical records and histopathological slides of the salivary glands were carefully reviewed.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to explore the endoscopic characteristics of radioactive iodine-induced sialadenitis (RAIS), and to evaluate the treatment outcomes of endoscopic intervention for RAIS.
Study Design: Retrospective case series.
Methods: Eighty-two consecutive patients (11 males and 71 females) diagnosed as RAIS from Nov.
Objective: To investigate the expression and secretion of epidermal growth factor (EGF) in major and minor salivary gland tissues of human subjects and to examine the potential influence of sex and age on EGF expression and secretion.
Design: Saliva samples from the oral cavity at rest and after citric acid stimulation, as well as serum samples, were collected from 150 healthy subjects, and the concentrations of EGF were measured with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and compared. The expression of EGF mRNA and protein in normal salivary gland tissues was measured by real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), Western blot (WB), and immunohistochemistry (IHC).

Precise recognition of the intraparotid facial nerve (IFN) is crucial during parotid tumor resection. Methods: In all, 120 RAIS patients (18 males and 102 females) were retrospectively included. Spiral CT, ultrasonography and sialography appearances were analysed and categorized as follows: grade I, approximately normal or mild sialadenitis; grade II, moderate sialadenitis; and grade III, severe sialadenitis.
Objectives: Confirm that stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth-derived exosomes (SHED-exos) can limit inflammation-triggered epithelial cell apoptosis and explore the molecular mechanism.

Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the long-term outcomes of mandibular reconstruction with vascularized free fibula flap in pediatric patients.
Methods: Consecutive cases of mandibular reconstruction with vascularized free fibula flaps in pediatric patients at Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology between 1999 and 2019 were reviewed. Postoperative computed tomography (CT) data of all patients were collected at each postoperative follow-up point, and after the age of 18 years.

Materials And Methods: We reviewed all patients with fibular flaps from 1999 to 2018. The following data were collected: sex; age; reconstruction region; diagnosis; the number of days spent in the hospital after surgery; time spent using a tourniquet for harvesting a fibula flap; vessels at the recipient site; the prevalence of unplanned reoperations; the prevalence of flap failure; history of preoperative radiotherapy; virtual surgical planning; segments of the fibula.
Purpose: To establish a Beagle dog model of dry eye disease (DED).
Methods: DED models were induced by surgical removal of orbital lacrimal glands and entire resection of third eyelids in the left eyes of six Beagle dogs. Intact right eyes served as self-controls.
Background: Ensuring high accuracy in multimodal image fusion for oral and maxillofacial tumors is crucial before further application. The aim of this study was to explore the factors influencing the accuracy of multimodal image fusion for oral and maxillofacial tumors.
Methods: Pairs of single-modality images were obtained from oral and maxillofacial tumor patients, and were fused using a proprietary navigation system by using three algorithms (automatic fusion, manual fusion, and registration point-based fusion).

Congenital absence or hypoplasia of the major salivary glands is rarely observed and easily overlooked in the clinic. Lacrimo-auriculo-dento-digital syndrome (LADD) is a congenital anomaly disorder that is characterized by aplasia, atresia, or hypoplasia of the lacrimal and salivary glands and caused by FGFR2, FGFR3, or FGF10 gene mutation. Methods: Fifteen consecutive patients pathologically diagnosed with chronic sialadenitis were enrolled, and their clinicopathological features were comprehensively analyzed.
Inclusion Criteria: (1) multiple salivary gland enlargement; (2) elevated serum IgE and/or IgE-positive cell infiltration in salivary gland tissues; (3) histology-confirmed lymphoplasmacytic infiltration; (4) exclusion of other known diseases.
