Sn-beta zeolite is a Lewis acid catalyst which can activate the C-O and C[double bond, length as m-dash]O bonds of many organic compounds. In this paper, a simple aerosol method has been firstly applied to the post-synthesis of Sn-beta zeolite. The aqueous solution containing SnCl and dealuminated beta zeolite was rapidly dried using an aerosol generator to obtain the Sn-beta zeolites with different Sn contents.

An innovative hydrothermal method has been successfully applied to the synthesis of hierarchical ZSM-5/beta composite zeolites with different mass ratios. Firstly, the ZSM-5 zeolites were coated with amorphous silica and aluminum species by a spray drying process. An aerosol-assisted hydrothermal method has been applied to synthesizing hierarchical beta zeolites with SiO/AlO ratios ranging from 44 to 392 in NaF media. Two different morphologies, including nano-aggregates with interparticle mesopores and plate-like zeolites with intracrystalline mesopores, can be formed depending on the SiO/AlO ratios of the synthesis gels. A possible mechanism for the formation of the beta zeolites has been proposed.

Titanium silicalite (TS-1) zeolites with different titanium species were synthesized and characterized by ultraviolet (UV)-Raman, ultraviolet visible (UV-Vis) diffuse reflectance spectroscopies and by the NH3 temperature programmed desorption (NH3-TPD) method. The roles of different titanium species in TS-1 samples have been investigated by gas chromatography-Raman spectrometry (GC-Raman) during the propylene epoxidation process. For the first time, a positive correlation was found among the concentration of framework Ti species, the amount of active intermediate Ti-OOH (η(2)) and the conversion of propylene by the in situ GC-Raman technique.

The formation process of MCM-41 containing zeolite Y building units has been investigated by UV Raman spectroscopy, (29)Si and (27)Al MAS NMR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), N2 adsorption and electron microscopy (SEM and TEM). It is found that the precursor containing zeolite Y secondary building units promotes the formation of a metastable mesopore structure just after mixing the zeolite precursors with CTAB. In contrast, the low-polymerized aluminosilicates and well-crystallized zeolite crystals cannot be assembled with CTAB at this stage.

The effects of surfactants, counterions and additive salts on the formation of siliceous mesoporous molecular sieves during self-assembly process were investigated by UV Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques. The surfactant molecules experience the rearrangement after adding the silica species and adjusting the pH value. The obvious change of the Raman bands related to the surfactants supports a cooperative interaction between surfactant and inorganic species during self-assembly process.

The effect of zeolite Y precursor on the formation of MCM-41 containing zeolite Y building units has been investigated by means of UV Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectroscopy (IR) and electron microscopy (SEM and TEM). Study of the precursor formation shows that 4-membered ring species are formed at the early stages of crystallization. Zeolite Y begins to appear after crystallization for 4 h, and its crystallinity increases with increasing crystallization time.

Objective: To investigate whether the downregulation of human apurinic or apyrimidinic endonuclease/redox factor-1 gene (APE1/Ref-1) expression by ribonucleic acid interference (RNAi) would increase the sensitivity of SW1990 cells to gemcitabine.

Methods: Chemically synthesized small interfering RNA (siRNA) directed against human APE1/Ref-1 (si-APE1) was transfected into SW1990 cells through transfection reagents. The mRNA expression of APE1/Ref-1 was detected by semi-quantitative RT-PCR and the protein expression of APE1/Ref-1 was detected by Western blot; cell proliferation and apoptosis were studied by a Cell Counting Kit 8 (CCK-8) and flow cytometry (FCM) and fluorescence microscopy.

Anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membranes were characterized by UV Raman and FT-IR spectroscopies before and after coating the entire surface (including the interior pore walls) of the AAO membranes by atomic layer deposition (ALD). UV Raman reveals the presence of aluminum oxalate in bulk AAO, both before and after ALD coating with Al2O3, because of acid anion incorporation during the anodization process used to produce AAO membranes. The aluminum oxalate in AAO exhibits remarkable thermal stability, not totally decomposing in air until exposed to a temperature >900 degrees C.
