The present study investigated the protective actions of telmisartan, an angiotensin II type 1 receptor blocker (ARBs), against the cell apoptosis induced by exposure to hydrogen peroxide (HO) in differentiated PC12 cells. Preincubation of PC12 cells with telmisartan prevented HO-induced cytotoxicity as indicated by increased MTT (3,(4,5-dimethylthiazole-2-yl)2,5-diphenyl-tetrazolium bromide) reduction, decreased lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release, and improved morphological changes. Hoechst 33,258 staining showed that telmisartan markedly reduced shrunken nuclei of the cells, and Western blot analysis indicated that telmisartan significantly attenuated caspase-3 activity, as indicated by decreased ratio of cleaved Caspase-3 to its precursor and increased ratio of Bcl-2/Bax.

Despite the tremendous efforts in exploring topological superconductivity, its presence is however still under heavy debate. The Dirac electrons have been proven to exist on the surface of a topological insulator.

Methods: Altogether 80 rats were divided randomly into five groups, including normal control (NC) group, high-fat (HF) diet group, diabetes mellitus (DM) control group, and DM treated with SalA (0.1 mg/kg and 0.
In the field of iron-based superconductors, one of the frontier studies is about the pairing mechanism. The recently discovered (Li(1-x)Fe(x))OHFeSe superconductor with the transition temperature of about 40 K provides a good platform to check the origin of double superconducting gaps and high transition temperature in the monolayer FeSe thin film. Here we report a scanning tunnelling spectroscopy study on the (Li(1-x)Fe(x))OHFeSe single crystals.

The normal state electronic properties can give significant influence on the superconducting state. For usual type-II superconductors, the vortices are cylinder like with a round cross-section.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTelmisartan, an angiotensin II type 1-receptor blocker (ARBs), has been reported to exert beneficial effects on the central nervous system (CNS). However, the effect of telmisartan on cognitive impairment associated with type 1 diabetes is not well known. Here, we examined the possibility that telmisartan could improve memory function in a type 1 diabetic mouse model, streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic mice.

The in vitro anti-tumor activity of these compounds was evaluated against human Bel-7402, HL-60, BGC-823 and KB cell lines, the protein tyrosine kinase (PTK) inhibitor activity was also tested. Their cytoprotective activity was tested using hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-induced injury in human umbilical vein endothelial cells.

Cell adhesion was evaluated by testing neutrophil myeloperoxidase activity: expression of adhesion molecules in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) was measured by ELISA: the neutrophil activation rate induced by N-formyl-methionyl-leucyl-phenylalanine (fMLP) was tested by the method of nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) reduction. The results showed that the adhesion rate of neutrophils to unstimulated HUVEC was very low.
